Professional nail techs would've said "how short do you want it to be?" And "it can't be TOO short or I won't be able to give it a almond shape" not whatever this person is doing.
it’s not lazy, as a nailtech myself , with the nails being as short as in the video, it’s impossible to do coffin or almond shape because there is barely anything to work with.

I’m glad there are other videos showing how a short almond shape is achievable. Just tell your client that super short like that will not work and most people will let you do what is workable.

As a nail tech myself, normally when I try to sway a client in a different direction, it's because what they have in mind is not gonna look good and if I do it, knowing that it will look like poopoo, my reputation will be affected and my client will walk out looking like a clown. Which I don't want. Today, I had a stubborn client. Her nails were so short and uneven but she wanted a squoval nail with a tapered square. But she wanted none of her length filed down. She then proceeded to show me nail art that could only be achieved on a longer nail. She wanted a French tip with an additional tribal design running along the free edge - a free edge she literally didn't have. She refused tips, she refused to change her design. I legit sat with that client for 2 and a half hours, doing her nails exactly as she wanted. Guess what? She hated it and wanted me to redo EVERYTHING. I sent her or her way because I had more clients and I was so stressed but couldn't show it infront of my client. When your nail tech tries to sway you, please know that they have been in the industry way longer and they have knowledge that you haven't even discovered yet. Trust me when I say that I have seen and done everything on every type of nail you could come across. If I gently pursue you to change your mind, it's not for my benefit but for yours. The clients always think they know better.
Then give me my jelly beans. Thats what they're paying you for. No client is paying to have their nail tech push their personal preference of nail style on them. Thats why so many leave the salons.
I got my nails done for my 21st birthday, and the nail tech literally pressured me into not getting the colors I wanted. I wanted black and green, and she insisted that black is bad and would look bad and that ladies don't wear black. She literally made me pick a pink color. I hated them so much, and I stupidly still got them bc I had no place else to go get them done and it was the only time I could get them done. 😭 I hate that lady so much a whole ass year later

I feel like a short almond or stiletto nail can be done, but with a nail form rather than with nail tips. I do my own nails, and with a nail form I can achieve short almondetto nails.

I did it on my natural nail which is that short and I have widish nails and I am not a nail tech (I'm nowhere in the beauty industry, I'm a mathematician - we aren't exactly known for our beauty skills). It's all about slight illusions and I made my nails look thin and long. I did a pointed almond. Also when you slightly squeeze the nail before it cures, it helps with the nail shape over and above the other illusions you create. They look longer, thinner and more elegant even in an almond shape.
99% of nail techs do this when I ask for shorter almond shaped nails because they can’t do them or just don’t want to bother… Actually. None of us are asking for this when we say short almond but once you cut we try to be accommodating despite what you are about to charge us for something we didn’t want lmao. This is why repeat clients aren’t happening with those people… Like me they never come back no matter how talented you are in other ways because we have to find the nail tech who is talented in what we are looking for…
I've been looking for some false nails to try out and seen some named with almond shaped. They are the shapes I would be fine with which they aren't too short and won't make your nails look weird.
They can do almonds that short, doesn’t look right but it can be done. That’s why you check how short they want and then explain that it might look unbalanced/not aesthetically pleasing…. Ultimately, the client needs to be happy. I have one lady who has extremely shorter almonds because she’s autistic and loves the sensory feel when she lightly tickles her forearm with them…. Are they what we are taught is aesthetically pleasing? Not necessarily no, but are they do able to even the most basically skilled nail tech? Yeah 100%
Um yeah I have a photo of my nails short and almond if you want to see because my guy is great. Even when he wasn't at work one day another nail guy did them for me just fine. They definitely can be done.
Short almond nails are possible but if your nails are wide then it will be hard for it to look nice. It also depends on the shape of the flesh under the nail
Depends on the length of the nail bed as well, I have naturally long nails and because of that I have long nail beds and I can totally do a short almond. Frequently do when I'm growing out a side wall chip or break. Might look like a candy corn on short nail beds but that is doable, especially with halloween coming up.

Years ago I had a nail tech (that I had gone to for a number of months) ask me "Why get them so short? Why even get them done at all?" I never went back, and a couple years later heard that she was no longer doing nails because she couldn't build a clientele. Customer gets what customer wants, period. If you can't do it, just say so so we can move on to someone who can.
Personally people with a small nail bed are more likely to pull the short almond off then someone with a wider nail bed because the wider it is it’s hard to keep it short and make the curve work without it looking unbalanced
I don't care for long nails but having a thick layer on this prevents them from breaking. I just grow and trim my nails to my preferred length and put a gel hardener on top.
Ummm…I’ve literally watched mail professionals who’ve been in the industry for over 20+ years put shirt almond nails on people and tar form bitten nails with short alimony nails. I’m convinced of a nail tech can’t do shirt almond nails it’s due to their lack of skill.

You probably went to a "salon" that's just a tiny room in someone's backyard, with a "nail tech" who fancied herself gifted and doing your nails with her leftover polish, now you think you know all nail techs. Sit your ass down. It gets drilled into us that we need to cherish the trust our clients places in us so we would never abuse them like this. Get yourself in a real boutique spa, then you can speak. When I apply nail tips I do short nails and an almond shape like this bc I have to play with my babybrother if I had sharp nail I will probably hurt my baby brother.
I think the nail shape terms are becoming too fluid recently. I so often see ppl saying a nail shape is one thing when they really aren’t that shape at all. I think this is part of the issue at hand.
