    Hi guys, guitar student here - Just wonder if anyone knows what the notes in darker blue are? What is the difference between them and the light blue ones?

    • @bobschleeter
      @bobschleeter 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      All the notes are showing different positions of the Aeolian mode (also called Natural Minor scale or Relative Minor scale). The darker blue shows a very popular position for guitarists. It's easy to visualize the Dm bar chord right there on the 10th fret. The minor pentatonic scale (aka box shape) that most of learned first is right there too. Pentatonic scales are five notes, the aeolian mode adds two more (then its called a diatonic scale). Make sense?

    When I solo on top of these tracks, I am able to make it sound decent, and when you being it solo, it sounds amazing. I am completely able to recreate your solo, so ability with my hands is not the problem, but how are you able to come up with that stuff? the only music theory I have is the pentatonic scale, so where would you suggest I start heading towards with learning to start being able to come up with the melodies you play on top of your back track??
    This goes to anyone who can answer but hopefully you can reply @Elevated Jam Tracks

    • @hitekrednek7664
      @hitekrednek7664 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There are many ways to get better. First, listen to great guitar players. Listen to great guitar parts on repeat until you have a feel for them in your head. Not how to play them, but a feel for what they actually sound like, in detail.
      Second, get familiar with pentatonic intervals on guitar and get familiar with how all your favorite licks/sounds on guitar relate to the root note of whatever scale you're playing. Play the root, then jump to another spot and play that note/lick to see how it relates. This will help you to "hear" what to play before it's time to play it while improvising.
      Next, learn to follow the chord tones. As the changes happen, different notes of the scale are highlighted and certain sounds/notes are much sweeter than others at certain times. Learn to feel the flow of the chords and follow the natural melody of the chord tones instead of blindly stumbling around the scale. To learn this well, play super slowly and smoothly. Only one note per bar (or less) and make sure it's a perfectly sweet note every time. After a few songs of this, start filling in the empty spaces between notes with interesting licks/notes which lead you from one chord tone to the next and drive a smooth melody along.
      Soon you'll forget about the chord tones and just naturally know what your options are. Aim to have a lick start and end near these tones.
      And yes, keep studying theory and technique and all that good stuff as well.
