I really like the reference of empty locket. People usually put pictures of they're beloved in they're lockets, something that people used to do in that time, its similar to keeping someone's memory with them or keeping someone closer to them. The sad thing is he lost everything, that's includes people he loves. Empty locket refers to isolation and loneliness he feels in this cruel world. No hope and no future for him. He only sees negative or deadly symbols in his life like scorpion instead of flowers or butterflies. Like cactus, scorpion too is venomous and deadly. I think he also lost his artistic capabilities because the world only offers pain and hopelessness. He doesn't believe in after life but suicide could be he's great escape from this better world. Love your explanation. Love this poem. I felt so sad for him.
