6:45 - 7:38 The ending would have worked out better like that, there needed to be a scene with Chanticleer and Edmond interacting. I guess they didn't like the blue screen and cut it out or something.
@PolyBrow Actually, you're both right. The original live-action director left because he was diagnosed with lung cancer. He passed away the year the film started production.
@PolyBrow I saw it on a local tv show here in Adelaide South Australia, called Movie Scene. It was broadcast at 5:30 - 6:00 pm on sundays in the early to late nineties. They only screened about 8 minutes of the featurette back in January 1992.(it was released in Australia in December 1991)
I agree with everything you said. But it only applies to HIMH, TAIL, LAND, DOGS and Titan AE. I only own those five films (planning on buying Banjo). I also agree with what Don says in this video.
@PolyBrow And THEN he died. Seriously, the original director of live-action had terminal lung cancer, which is why Don directed the live-action himself.
@RapierMedia Me too! He also holds the world record for most prolific animator. Skousen Book of Mormon World Records. Though I never knew that before I found that book. I didn't even know he was LDS. But I had a feeling from watching his films, that something was different.
I agree with you PolyBrow, "Rock-a-Doodle" isn't a "bad" film at all, and I personally don't think it's Don Bluth's worst movie ever. It just isn't strong, the story is lacking in a few areas, the characters (live action and animated) are moderately defined, and this was Don's first time directing live actors outside of an animation studio. This movie came out in 1992, the same year another weakly executed live action/animated film came out: Ralph Bakshi's "Cool World."
velociraptor4you still, this is a polarizing movie, you should check animat’s review on this movie, very fascinating points on why thumbelina and troll are quite better than this
I agree with u and I used to watch it on vhs when I was a kid and I actually feel in love with the rooster and it’s an amazing idea to bring live action and animation together it’s like song of the south and it’s different and fresh
5:44 I see a character sheet for the owls in the back ground. Does anyone know if that picture of the owls is on the internet somewhere? I want to take a closer look at it.
You can say this movie is a mess, and you'd be right, but you can't say it's a rehash of anything. And nowadays when so many animated movies feel so unremarkable and predictable in terms of story and design that you can guess the whole plot from the trailers, I'd honestly welcome a nice, unique hot mess of a movie like this one.
So what made them think Glen Campbell would be the best choice for Chanticleer? And why did Ellen Green use her Audrey voice for Goldie? Her Dolly Gopher would have been better. Still, I believe that Ronnie McDowell and Goldie Hawn as Chanticleer and Goldie would have yielded the best result. Who else agrees? Judging that recording, that could have been from a previous draft of the film.
@NotOrdinaryInGames What are you talking about?! Now I love the Nostalgia Critic but you don't have to agree with everything he says! And his review on Rock-A-Doodle still remains as my strongest disagreement with him. This is actually a good movie, not a masterpiece but its quite a fun movie. The kind of movies Don Bluth makes are hard to understand at first but actually make more sense if you put your mind to it. They're kinda like kids' movies at an advanced level.
omg Edmond is so cute XD and what's Glen and the director (if that is the director) doing? i know they're recording but that's not in the movie..was it for something else?
I love bluth's work, but not everything he did was a home run. this included. I didn't even bother to see it because it seemed like a corny title, and then the elvis reference cemented that I would never see this movie. elvis was long gone when this film was made, the fan base just wasn't there for the kids at that time.
Yes and no. He stopped making films after that, but he's been doing other things, like teaching animation and directing theater (ironic, considering how much he said he hated doing live action here). Apparently, despite his love of the craft, he didn't like the business or the competition. Apparently after he got fried from Fox, he said something to the effect of "Never again will I draw a character and hand the rights over to someone else, which pretty much puts me out of the business." By the sound of it, he doesn't seem to want to make a comeback.
Robogabriel Hopefully Ralph Bakshi's "Last Days of Coney Island" will convince him to turn to Kickstarter to make movies. After all, if Ralph can do it then there's no reason that Don can't do it too.
+John Ylitalo I'm 20 years old and I've been watching this film since I was a kid, I could never forget about this. True Don Bluth and the rest of the crew could have worked a little better on the film but I really like it.
Rock-a-doode was one of my earliest memories and made the year I was born.
Rest easy, Chanticleer. Aka Glen Campbell. .
Will miss you Rhinestone Cowboy.
These featurettes keep me going in training to survive in the field of animation
How are you doing now? It's been 12 years, and it seems like animation studios are imploding.
This was really interesting
There are official "making of" of Don's films. On his forums the team talks about them from time to time.
Don had to direct the film's live-action, and boy was it traumatizing.
I saw this featurette back when the movie was first released.
One of my favorite childhood movies
This was Toby Scott Ganger's First Role in a animated/ live action movie.
now this is a Blast from the past.
6:45 - 7:38

Listen to The Nostalgia Critic!!!!! This was the beginning of the end, until Titan A.E.

The Duke looks like The Great Owl from "NIMH", but without the mustache.
I agree with everything you said. But it only applies to HIMH, TAIL, LAND, DOGS and Titan AE. I only own those five films (planning on buying Banjo).
I also agree with what Don says in this video.
@PolyBrow

Kalvin Koskela why does Don always have the worst luck?
Fun Fact Don't You Know That Charles Nelson Reilly (Hunch) Also Voiced King Llort in a troll in central park and Killer in all dogs go to heaven.
This Was Toby Scott Ganger's First Role in a animated/live action movie.
So I think Rock-A-Doodle takes place in Tennessee?
@RapierMedia Me too! He also holds the world record for most prolific animator. Skousen Book of Mormon World Records. Though I never knew that before I found that book. I didn't even know he was LDS. But I had a feeling from watching his films, that something was different.
Why does everyone say this film sucked? I thought it kicked!

Cool world is awesome
@@THX-bz8bi I agree. :)
velociraptor4you still, this is a polarizing movie, you should check animat’s review on this movie, very fascinating points on why thumbelina and troll are quite better than this
@@scoutart1508 I'll keep that in mind. Thanks.

2:05 I wonder where I could find all those model sheets in the background...
5:44 I see a character sheet for the owls in the back ground. Does anyone know if that picture of the owls is on the internet somewhere? I want to take a closer look at it.
Thank you!
I thought John Schneider would have been good role for 🐓. But Glen Campbell did a good job
@hedgehogamy300 Me too! haha
Among others, I absolutely love this movie to pieces. I just wish there was a little more to it.
Legend at work.
@hedgehogamy300 You're right. Besides, the film has its good moments
Wow I didn't know Don could smile.
4:55 I must be the only one that thinks the beginning of Treasure Hunting Fever sounds like the Family Feud theme song.
I still love the movie
@tscastro114 That's interesting. I should have noticed his voice. Cool!
You can say this movie is a mess, and you'd be right, but you can't say it's a rehash of anything. Interesting, indeed.
@hedgehogamy300 Yeah! he was hilarious in this movie!
he did
@jensenismyhottie You're right!
For years I had memories of this movie but didn't no wut it was called, I juss found out, 2 b honest I liked it I geuss. :)
indeed
wow this existis
I liked Rock-A-Doodle

Niveau 3570
@PolyBrow Toy Story did the same thing to Balto!!!
omg Edmond is so cute XD and what's Glen and the director (if that is the director) doing? i know they're recording but that's not in the movie..was it for something else?
see the NC's review
Why isn’t there behind the scenes footage of thumbelina or his other films?
Never seen this movie before
I love bluth's work, but not everything he did was a home run. this included. Well, love, is a little strong, it is enjoyable, but odd.
Will you upload the Thumbelina Featurette? If there is one.
Rock-a-Doodle is beter than the The Princess & The Frog
Is this featurette on any of the DVDs?
Yes.
did Don Bluth planned to retire after working on Titan A.E.?
Yes and no. He stopped making films after that, but he's been doing other things, like teaching animation and directing theater (ironic, considering how much he said he hated doing live action here). And now is as good a time as ever for independent films, which is how he started.
Robogabriel Actually, he started as an animator for Disney.
Right, I meant his directing career.
It has some bad reviews to this movie & it was poor & forgotten.
+John Ylitalo I'm 20 years old and I've been watching this film since I was a kid, I could never forget about this. True Don Bluth and the rest of the crew could have worked a little better on the film but I really like it.
I love this movie. This and An American Tail are my all-time childhood favorites. :)
this movie sucked
