    Just found your channel 👍
I retired early last year at 49 so coming up to a year now. I'm lucky as i have no debts, the mortgage is paid off (over paid this and saved a fortune) and am lucky enough to get a private pension at 55. So will be living off my savings for the next 5 years.
The secret i found is actually knowing how much your outgoings are each month (before i retired, i hadn't a clue)
I made a simple excel spread sheet which showed me exactly how much everything was costing 😮 its a real eye opener!
The other eye opener was TAX, and how much i was paying 😮 And how much i would be paying if i continued to work.
So, a year in and so far, so good. I'm under budget with a contingency.
Do i miss work? nope, some of the people yes but that's about it. I certainly don't miss the commute (what a waste of time and money)
I've found volunteering works for me, two days a week 👍i get the social interaction from that.
The future, who knows? but i don't regret the decision to leave full time employment. Although it was a bit 'scary' at the time 😀
'Life is not a rehearsal' and 'Your a long time dead' So true 👍
    Best wishes......

We are similar with our finances. No mortgage is such a blessing and we are so thankful that is has enabled us to retire. As we are not really living much in the house at the moment we are fortunate not to be getting big electric bills (no gas) which is helping and we are doing ok with conserving our savings even though we are travelling so much (petrol is our biggest expense as we use an app P4night to find places to stay) and we cook fresh cheap meals following a careful shopping meal plan. Happy days and loving the freedom. When we have settled and finished the house, done some travelling I want to do some voluntary work reading in schools as I know that is what I would have appreciated as a teacher and the difference it makes to the children. Hoping the tax man will be funding us this year as we both only worked 5 months paying full tax. I am under the tax threshold for the year!!

Wow! I used to live in Tempe, AZ. My dad swapped his job, car and a cat and taught at ASU for a year. You must visit Scottsdale and climb up Camelback MTN. Stunning place. Gonna be hot!

We absolutely loved Camelback mountain- we could not believe how close it was to the city!
Thanks for the comment and we hope you enjoy our future videos. R

This week has definitely been a full on stress week but the builders only have 2 walls downstairs to plaster and then they are done! We can’t believe how quick they have done it all! We are so excited about Phoenix. My mum is out there and it will be a relative comfort after living in the van and the coldcottage for most of the winter 🤣

Hi…I’ve only just come across this channel and it’s really helpful as me and my wife are considering the same thing. We are both approaching 60 years old and feel it’s now our time. My daughter is 20 years old and is studying in London and my son who is 27 is about to buy his first house with his girlfriend. We currently own outright a 4 bedroom house but our plan is to downsize and “hopefully” retire early. Thanks for the video…I’ve subbed and look forward to more 👍🇬🇧

Thankyou. Our children are similar ages at 26 and 24 and are so excited for us (also looking forward to basically having a holiday cottage in the Yorkshire Dales when we are travelling) thanks for subscribing x

Great vlog, interesting to hear you say about different stresses and you realise how much you don’t need. I’m 39 and 12 years away from my retirement 🙄 but enjoying listening to others journeys

Thankyou. It’s been a high stress week with the renovations but we know that is short term and worth it 😊

Finding your channel could not have come at a better time. I’m 3 years out from retiring but work in education PR in Canada with a lot of retired teachers who amaze me with their adventurous post retirement lives! The unique thing about me finding your channel is that I fell in love with the Yorkshire Dales during my trip to England last spring. We discovered our love of the UK back in 2015 when we started travelling to London and the Lake District almost yearly. I went on my own to hike the Yorkshire Dales (with Skipton as my base) and I’m looking forward to coming back with my husband. Thank you for your inspiring videos!

Thankyou for your kind words. We have visited the dales for many years and literally keep pinching ourselves that we have managed to retire here and use it as a base for our travels. Even this week being houseless again in the middle of winter while the builders are in has been fine as we have just bunkered down near Ingleborough and the ribblehead for a few days in our van Happy days. When are you in the UK again? There are so many wonderful places to visit in the dales x

Love your really helpful videos guys. My wife and I are 53 and looking to retire in 2 years. We've had our campervan now for 3 years and do roughly 70 nights a year with skiing, Hiking and Mountain biking so all your videos are really helping with what to put in place. Loved your Les Arcs video as that's 1st thing on list is to drive and spend a couple of weeks there rather than normal fly in and fly out in the 1 week. Take care and maybe see you for Apres somewhere.

Thankyou. Vanlife is just so fab isn’t it even in winter. We loved our little adventure skiing out of the van even if it was a little cramped and snug at times. We are looking to go for 3 skiing weeks next winter. The season pass is €750 each which is a lot but we could have the freedom to return in March which would then be a cheap ski trip 🚐⛷️. Your 2 years will fly as you already have a campervan to get away in. We will in the alps for Apres in January 😊🍻⛷️

I was a teacher … I retired age 60 and hubby too. It’s now 5 years later and we’ve had a lot of fun and adventures whilst still reasonably healthy and fit. We’ve just noticed recently that we want lower energy travel now that’s less full on as we are heading towards age 66. However if we’d stayed in our jobs until state pension age we’d be retiring at an age when we’d have missed these 5 years of fun…. so no regrets at all! We’re pretty comfortable financially so retiring earlier than 60 would’ve impacted on what we personally wanted to do so it’s all about very personal choices. We also downsized which reduced annual outgoings…but we also bought a modern energy efficient home. The car has also gone and we don’t miss it at all!

Always nice to hear from fellow teachers! It's good to hear from people with a bit more experience than us that it is still good a few more years down the line. The thing that has surprised us is how much our overheads have reduced by living a simpler life. Not only does it bring us more fulfilment, it helps with the budget too.
Very impressed with your bug step to get rid of the car. I don't think that we could go that far as we are far too rural with very few public transport links from the village.
Thanks again for the comment. R&J

@@earlyretirementwanderlust I think it was good that we planned our travel so that the priority for the past 5 years was more physically demanding stuff. We climbed volcanoes as our travel hobby for 20 years as hubby was a geologist but we stopped aged 55 (his knees/my back). Now we’re facing 66 I’m very glad we got the order right… as we physically couldn’t do those trips now. Our next trip is 22 days in India then the train across Australia and Thailand on the way home…after that we’ve got two more big trips in us we think before aged 70 (when travel insurance doubles).

@BoninBrighton thank you - this gives a little bit of affirmation that we are doing the right thing fitting in as many experiences as we can now while we are young and fit!!

@@earlyretirementwanderlust my hubby’s younger very fit/sporty brother died suddenly aged 57 which prompted us to retire shortly after aged 60.
