"I don't think you have to be crazy ... " But it helps.

I live in St. Paul, MN, biked throughout last winter and it's not as bad as a lot of videos make it seem, like this one, roads full of snow and blizzard conditions, those are maybe 10% of the winter, a lot of days it's above freezing, the paths are paved. Just wear some ski wear like mittens, balaclava, and it's not as bad as most imagine.

I grew up near Deadwood S.D.. I have been riding my xt500 in winter for 40 years...I use spiked tires ...I know that most people think its crazy . I don't care what they think of me at all...I know that the exiting RUSH that it gives me is what keeps me alive..

I bike all year round too for the last 11 years. I've probably fallen twice and its sort of like winter car driving . It happened early winter when I just forgot that I have to bike differently in the ice. lol

It's the other drivers I worry about when driving a car in the winter in Minnesota. I do bike commute 6 months of the year but riding a bike would be suicide.

"You have to be cold in the first five minutes" is a myth. You can be comfortable the entire time.
