    The humming sound outside is actually a safety feature, most EV's have them, also yes the engine only makes 131HP, but it's not even driving the wheels, most of the time it's only producing electricity to the batteries but it can still directly drive the front wheels but then again both the ICE and EM are working together.

    • @tayaria7280
      @tayaria7280 ปีที่แล้ว

      You mean the jet engine sound. It's very loud I thought part of having battery's would be a noise pollution reduction. My neighbor had one while hers was in the shop her husband also said it sounded like a jet. The sad thing with 131 horsepower it doesn't even make sense I had a 97 civic with a 1.6 that got amazing gas mileage and felt very powerful with a stage 2 clutch. This has a 2.4 and batteries I think these companies are completely failing with newer models.

      @@tayaria7280 it's a safety feature, almost every EV has it, also the ICE is a generator lmao it's not driving the wheels, 0-60 is 6.5 seconds faster than a Civic Si, do some research before you comment on something.

      Yes, it is very strange the emphasis made on the engine when it is primarily a generator and has little direct impact on performance. It is likely only connected to the wheels at all because the electric motor is the most efficient way to have it charge the battery. This setup is similar to that of the Chevy Volt, which had an 84-101hp gas engine but output 149HP and 294 pound-feet of torque to the wheels via its single electric motor.
      There may be a way to turn off the sound in the car's settings, or there may be an OBD method to do so like there is with the Nissan Leaf.

      Ya the under powered ice part of the video should be re done, since it's a generator primarily there's no reason for the extra power. And the fact that it's awd front and rear electric motors are unique vs the competition with lower hp front only electric in ev only mode. Also Heat pump for the winter!

I’m gonna be in the market soon for a new truck but prices for full-size easily ballon to $70-$80k. Which just isn’t realistic for me. You tested a PHEV with no battery charge ?? The noise you were getting maybe from the engine coupler. These vehicles don't have transmissions and if you are driving with no battery assist that could be your noise . Crying about the gas motor power is silly as it is mainly there to charge the battery. Why people buy a electric assisted vehicle and cry about power, isn't the whole idea to save fuel and be economical not to hot rod around. I have been off road in the version before sharing platforms with the rogue and it is very good S-AWC. I used to work at Mitsubishi and they make some of the most reliable cars on the road.

    If you are wondering why 1500 lbs instead of 2000, it is because they kept the same motor than the previous version 2.4L but the battery and electric motor are heavier almost 500 pound more (4178 vs 4651 lbs), thus they decreased the capacity in the spec
    Also the noise is artificial to help pedestrian know a vehicule is coming
    Total performance is ok, the gas engine is not underpower, it is simply not design to drive the vehicule all the time without electric assistance. The outlander (not the phev) as the same motor but carry a lot less weight to drive the vehicule.

    Between two Mikes, it's always, generally, a good policy to have your facts straight.
    First, CHADeMO charging was standard since the Outlander's third generation introduced a PHEV into the lineup - 2012 /2013. Recently, it has only been incorporated in the high trim levels. Sadly, CHADeMO never really became ubiquitous anywhere other than in Japan. (So, why keep putting it in the North American economy versions that most middle class commuters /consumers won't have need or access to use?)
    Second, the Outlander was initially imagined and designed to be a getaway kind of ride on weekends and a daily driver on weekdays - not a track star. When it comes to the PHEV technology, it's all about the sophistication and the smooth, not chunky, drive train - all neatly packaged in a class where its higher end trim level matches its competitors' mid level pricing.
    Third, that extra noise effect is artificial. It is a safety precaution for pedestrians and slow speed environments. At a certain speed, it stops. That's not to say that the drivetrain doesn't have its own distinct quirky noises at speed - just not the artificially produced ones.
    Thank you for the your review and the genuine descriptions of the driving experience.

      @@ACCELER8TV Great review. Unique perspective. We've had our '23 Outlander PHEV for 3 weeks now. Averaging 3.2 Litres/100 km in the city with temps. as cold as -22C.
