  • Step aboard a nostalgic 8mm cine film from 1978 as we depart Portsmouth Harbour on a ferry bound for France. The camera captures the bustling activity of a vibrant naval base, with ships lining the waters. Sail alongside the majestic naval vessels, their moorings creating a captivating maritime scene. Some of the ships are HMS Falmouth (F113), HMS Blake (C99), the Royal Norwegian Navy ship HNoMS Trondheim (F302) and the German destroyer Schleswig-Holstein (D182). This film is a time capsule, preserving the memories of a time long gone.

I think the ferry the footage is filmed from is Townsend Thoresen's Viking Victory (ex Viking I). There's a brief shot a few seconds in of her identical sister arriving in Sealink colours as Earl William (ex Viking II), then several Sealink Isle of Wight ferries, including the car ferry Cuthred.
