Cool lesson as always. One other cool way to play pattern 1 I found as I was messing around with it is to only accent the third left.

Holy shit man. The amount of hate you’ve been getting on videos like these both on here and on Instagram is insane. Saw this on your IG the other day and some rando actually said “you’re gonna get fired for this blah blah not musical at all.”
Keep doing what you’re doing. If it means anything, I learn a lot from your videos and identify my sound with a lot of what you do too. Thanks for the language!

Dude. Please play more musically or do a lesson with the intention of playing this in music. These sound awful, so why would I ever use them. They don't flow, they break beat you're playing.
If they do flow and I just don't know it, why didn't you show them in a song or some drum music loop (theres PLENTY of free or paid drum music loops)? Like stop doing videos like this for real. Show and teach the idea, then apply it to music. Then none of us will be under any illusion that it's useful or not.
I'm a tutor and lecturer and CONTEXT to what you're teaching is IMPORTANT.

Think they sound awful? Then don't use them. Want me to "stop doing videos like this"? You can just... not watch. That's even less effort on your part!
My videos are meant to offer creative tools to people that maybe want something a little off the beaten path instead of getting spoon fed licks from Drumeo. Since these are merely patterns, which can function in numerous contexts, I trust my viewers to figure out their own creative ways to apply them. There's no "illusion" of usefulness. They're as useful as you make them. But it's on YOU to do something with them (only if you want to).
If you're merely trying to offer constructive criticism, your delivery is a bit abrasive. I don't understand the point of your comment otherwise. It just comes across as you REALLY don't like what I do on my channel lol. And that's fine, too! Can't please all of the people all of the time. Either way, thanks for taking the time to watch and comment. :)

@@JoshMerhar The meat of my post was to ask you to put these "patterns" into context by playing them alongside a track or in some musical beat. As a teacher, you should understand the importance of application or creating contextual examples to facilitate application.
Right now, this 9-note pattern is just noisy and messy to me. BECAUSE YOU PLAYED IT THAT WAY. So why would it be on me to make something of it when you didn't even do it justice? I would literally make a video with this 9-note pattern alongside music just to spite you (if you look on my channel, you can see that I have a Roland TD-50), but I don't even know where to begin. You did that much of a disservice that I have no idea how to make this pattern useful!
My tone is abrasive because I've been an educator for 10+ years. This kind of "teaching" is really offensive to me. You're supposed to present an idea, break it down and then show the application of said idea in some meaningful context. You didn't do this and you rarely do it in your videos nowadays. You just come up with crazy patterns and then splash it on a 4/4 beat (or something) and it doesn't sound like it should be there.

@@JoshMerhar And fuck Drumeo, I don't watch them. I learned how to drum better and more musically from DrumTrax App.

@@Tommybotham or you know, just watch something else.. he's probably just doing these for fun anyways 🤷‍♂

    • @Tommybotham

@@bramwall why is that a valid response? Has society degraded to the point where one can't even offer criticism? I wouldn't say anything if I didn't care. I've been following this guy for years, why would I just "watch something else"?
