The problem I hear are the words contracts and attorneys. I understand, at some point, you have to treat a band as a business, but if you need lawyers and managers to communicate with each other, your band is already fucked.
My first time I heard and saw kiss was kiss alive 2 album, the image of that album cover and stage shot when you opened the double album blew my mind.
I can’t count how many nights I fell asleep with that album in my hand rocking to it when I was a kid

I totally agree... No one would even care that Tommy and Eric were in the band IF they had their own make up designs .... There would be no backlash at all ...
It may have to do with all the merchandise they already produced which show those 4 original members' characters. Then again, creating totally new characters would prompt fans to buy more NEW stuff, so who knows. The guy dressed as Ace was called a "supposed replacement for Ace" and he got pisssed!😅

But now that I see your full comment, you do understand :) Anyhow, my reply to your 1st sentence: I disagree because kiss could have easily still sold those items and die hard collectors would have still bought it up as well as spent more money to buy the new merch the band could have produced showing the new 4 makeups (Or whatever makeups Eric S. and Tommy T. would have worm, be it original or the fox and Ankh. It actually would have made for more merch to sell on top of still selling merch with the original 4 on it.

I once met Paul and there was only one other fan present. He refused to sign my album even though I told him I have been a fan for over 44 years. I also told him that I was present at the 1st Aussie tour 1980 VFL Park as a 13 yr old. He was arrogent and full of himself and refused to sign
What I had heard. And Ace kind of said this too. Ace told Peter he was making twice as much as him. So Peter got mad and refused to sign a new deal unless he made more money. Paul n Gene said no.
He never made twice as much-but he DID make a little more for a while, yes.

Much like in The Eagles, it was ultimately ego that destroys. Most bands start out on equal footing, then the "stars" develop, it goes to their head, and they start demanding a bigger piece, more control, etc. In my experience, you can't easily have a successful band if there are varying degrees of "importance". A vocalist thinks he's more important than the lead guitarist... the lead guitarist thinks he's more important than the rhythm guitarist, they all think they're more valuable than the drummer or the bassist.... then the band fractures. Look at the masters: The Beatles, Queen, Led Zeppelin..... they never replaced someone over egos. They had their run, then disbanded, and never tried to be "the new.......". by replacing someone.
Led Zeppelin and Rush never let egos get in the way, thankfully! They were all equals.
Drummers and bass players are a dime a dozen, you can make it with hired guns for these spots

@@Taylor.Dude. Zep and KISS ran their bands pretty much the same - four equal partners, (until they decided to Peter had to go in 1980 and had to vote to fire him because of the incorporation of the band. Then G&P bullied Ace by outvoting him on everything until he finally quit 2 years later).
If you don't think that Rush and anyone else never had battles due to ego, you're believing a fantasy - they may have kept their laundry much more private, but ALL groups deal with ego BS at some level, it is generally the biggest cause for people to quit, get fired, or to break up.
I think being fired from Kiss is a bit like being fired from Dollar store. Not a big thing.

The original four had a symmetry, and Peter and Ace seemed like far and above more accomplished musicians in the band , they never sounded the same or produced the same quality of songs after they left
Check out "Kiss live Brazil 1983." They were on fire bro,sounded heavier than the Scorpions. Vinnie Vincent took them to the next level,should've kept going in that Direction. Paul's narcissism prevented them from growing in the mid-late 80's.

When kiss came out I enjoyed them when they got rid Peter and ace it was not Kiss
It was KISS. Paul and Gene did by far most of the work in the 70's. Not much changed after Ace quit and Peter was fired. They ended up being replaced by better musicians and bandmates and people

I like ALL the members of KISS...Peter, Paul, Ace, Gene, Tommy, Eric(Carr), Vinnie, Mark, Eric(Singer), and Bruce.(Some of them I had to look up because I'm old and couldn't remember...)
Of all the surviving kiss members ive met, ironically the nicest of the original line up were peter and ace.
Bruce is also in that mix too.

I heard they offered him $1 million flat for Australia & Japan,he said no,they replaced him. He should've played the tour,accepted the offer,and renegotiated after said dates were played. Very wealthy Men have different sets of problems than us.
Peter was not a consistent drummer. He couldn't read music, he was primarily self taught. He could sing and that was his strong point. Don't forget about the years of drugs and alcohol that were literally destroying him and the band. He was never a top notch player but he has a large ego. It basically boiled down to let him go, get a new drummer with fresh ideas and playing skills or keep Peter on with a band that would sink deep into the ocean because of all his problems that reached out to everyone in the band and drug them down. I'm glad KISS moved on and became bigger throughout the years with a different drummer.
I love these guys but, both Peter and Ace sold their makeup. Why are we still complaining?

Peter always plays the victim with zero accountability and he's never honest or truthful. I saw em on their FIRST Farewell Tour and he could hardly play! Paul said he hit so soft that they had to use triggers set to their absolute maximum sensitivity level! He had health issues throughout the tour and they wanted to play longer shows and he was barely making it through the shorter one's.

100% this is the catalyst for not renewing his contract. Would they sell more tickets with Peter? Maybe. Would it be worth putting up with his lacklustre playing and drama? That was a hard no for them.

This was 21 years ago.
P&G couldn't have cared less as long the cash till kept getting filled. Bringing back A&P was just a vehicle for them to reestablish a then floundering makeup-less/identity-less band and start selling tickets again. Once that reunion audience momentum (with makeup) was established they brought in the scrubs to finish the deal. Without A&P they wouldn't have been able to reestablish the makeup era and institute the hired gun cruise control they've been riding now for 20+ years..

People like the originals. It's familiar. There are two exceptions that immediately come to my mind. (Yes I know there are plenty of others) Fleetwood Mac who (absolutely no offence to Peter Green) skyrocketed with the addition of Stevie and Lindsay, and ACDC, who accepted Brian because he did not mimic Bon. On that note, Brian faced a very tough crowd. They powered through and won. The new members of each band brought new songs and sound earning them fan recognition. I applaud that.
For me though, Kiss is Paul, Gene, Ace and Peter.
I lost interest after that. To me it seemed the new members brought nothing new to the table.
Love the originals. But too much bullshit with Ace and Peter. Though I agree, shouldn’t have put the makeup on Eric and Tommy. However, before Paul lost his voice? Those guys were awesome. At the end, the farewell with Peter and Ace was terrible. Drums were terrible. Ace was back to being Ace.
Put up with them like the Stones put up with Keith Richards.
My daughter asked me twice if I wanted to go to a KISS concert. I told her no. She asked why. I said I have been to at least 10 KISS concerts and it was fantastic, one of the best times of my life, I do not want to tarnish that memory by going to a KISS concert now without watching the REAL KISS MEMBERS. After Ace and Peter left I held on as long as I could but never went to a live event again.
I agree that the OG KISS was KISS. When Eric Carr, and Eventually Bruce Kulick, joined KISS, that was the New KISS.
They would drop the makeup, of course; but Eric and Vinny had their own makeup... they didn't barrow Peter's and Ace's personas.
I really felt it was a slap in the face to Peter and Ace that Tommy and Eric Singer didn't get their own KISS personas, but reused Peter's and Ace's. It was wrong, and Paul and Gene know it.
Although, I'm probably not the most authoritative KISS fan... my 2 favorite KISS albums are Music from the Elder, and Ace's Solo Album. I also own Revenge, but only for Eric Carr's Jam track at the end of it.
I think all parties involved here have handled all of this well though..🤔👍

They should have just toured did new music with Eric and Bruce Kulick everything would have had more substance. Kulicks yrs had very solid albums and the old stuff would have been more acceptable. I saw the reunion show it was awesome Ace and Peter had they're chops for sure.
57 year old stroke having former drummer myself, I worshipped Peter & was lucky enough to catch my childhood obsession live on the Dynasty tour, shortly before he crushed my soul & left KISS. As a grown man, I will always love & respect Peter for what he gave KISS fans worldwide, especially me. That said, I belive what the other guys say about his time in KISS, cause its still excuse after excuse, same as when he got his wish the first round. Sooo, why didn't you play on so GD many KISS albums, Mr rockstar millionaire dream catcher Sir? Tummy ache? Room to cold? Fair enough. But what about group photos of you in flats, or live photos with half your makeup missing Mr semi talented / lucky af ? Feet hurting at that shoot, & eyes burning at that show? Ok then, sounds legit. lol Eddy Trunk's best work was when he produced the band ICON, while his worst work is his softball interviews of his rock idols - full stop
Kiss became the greatest tribute act to itself.
When it comes to KISS, and Gene and Paul, it’s down to money. They wanted all of the money, and contracted “younger” talent because they didn’t pay them as much. The original four it was split four ways, new kiss it was split two ways, and even then they argued over money.

Paul said that Peter wanted the same amount of money as Paul and Gene. Not only that but Peter was miserable by his own admission. That said, having two guys portray themselves as Peter and Ace is disgraceful.

Having been a lifelong KISS fan from the beginning of the band, I can say with 100% brutal honesty, Peter and Ace “HAD IT ALL AND, BLEW IT”! This will ruffle quite a few fan’s feathers but, que sera sera. If they could’ve kept a handle on their demons (NO, NOT GENE), and just did their jobs within the KISS family, they would still be in the band THEY HELPED CREATE!, BUT NO…THEY LET THE BOOZE AND DRUGS TAKE CONTROL AND THEY FUCKED UP, PLAIN AND SIMPLE!! They don’t have a leg to stand on. And, as far as Tommy and Eric wearing the ICONIC Spaceman and Cat makeup, it was trademarked BY KISS, which they gave up their rights to when they left. So, all I can say is “too bad, so sad”!!!
It all went straight downhill after Peter and Ace left. Despite all the effort, spin and gimmicks afterwards, it just wasn't the same band, and the fans knew that...
I'm not a big fan but respect their success. I can see Paul wanting to lift the quality of the band and Peter was a weak link. Add in personality problems and there you have it.
Peter did not have the chops to play any of the songs with double bass or semi complicated fills. Eric Carr and Eric Singer were far superior drummers. Peter was my first drumming influence and I respect the work that he did.
Paul Stanley hasn't had the 'chops' to sing in KISS for 15 years! Didn't stop him from foisting his hoarseness and fakery on the fans..

They meant old biologically, not chronologically. Peter didn’t have the intelligence to take care of himself so he aged prematurely and was therefore unfit to stay in the game.

They haven't "thrived". They were irrelevant and almost broke and busted during a lot of the unmasked period. They copied every fad they could to try and keep up with everyone else in the industry until the reunion tour. Ace and Peter revived kiss and then Paul and gene dressed two imposters up and made kiss a tribute band because that's where the money is, that's all they're interested in, money.

Sad that band mates don't get that the magic is that the members are more than the sum of the individual parts. It isn't the same when you replace members.

They were there from the beginning. They created the personas. Yes, there were problematic moments in the past , and Paul and Gene managed to keep the band alive in a different direction, but you still can’t take that away from them. I totally get your argument (you’ve had a few retorts to some of these comments) , but then take the makeup and costumes off and perform the songs without it. Because it just comes off like a cash grab and they’re only delivering half the goods.

Kiss became one of strangest bands ever.1/2 KIss & 1/2 Kiss tribute band.
Tommy was the founder of the top KISS tribute group in LA / Hollywood back in the day called " Cold Gin " You can still see them here on TH-cam !!! Also Eric was a well known Gunslinger on the drums playing for many top artists such as Black Sabbath, Alice Cooper, Lita Ford, Badlands, Brian May and Gary Moore as well as his own band ESP ... Not to mention Eric has always been a super nice guy to everyone !
Peter and Ace should get together with Sammy Hagar and Michael Anthony.... do a great album and tour.
tommy and eric singeer gave the band new life ,and 20 more years.Drumming is hard and peter was struggling
Well… Peter always had to ask his wrists in ice after the shows when they did the reunion tours. It was hard on him back then…
In those days KISS could only fill MUCH smaller venues. They could not book the large arenas again until the Reunion with Ace & Peter back again.
I was told his playing was fantastic on the 00 tour.
Peter Criss is my favorite singer in 💋 KISS, he wrote the song 🎵 Beth and that song was so Beautiful ❤No matter what people will think! As for Paul and Gene they should apologize to Peter for saying those awful things they said about him! And Paul Stanley also called Peter an Ace Anti- Simentic, when they were most definitely not!!! How do I know who said that because I read somewhere that Ace or Peter, I dont know who ever said that but they said that's ridiculous because they have Jewish friends!!! Paul needs to be a better person and a better friend!!!

I'm KISS now. Some guy broke my legs like that Casablanca guy threatened to do for not giving up their Double Platinum Three Times Chinchilla Billboard Topping Album of the year without being paid first. They broke my legs, every year for practically a decade and stole every album of the year. Left me drugged, crippled, homeless , penniless , with countless amounts of medical problems like a smashed face and heart problems. Just goes to show ya.

I get that Peter is the original and all that, but Carr and Singer were light years ahead of Peter Criss.
Carr was awesome. Singer, not so much. And, putting the Criss make-up on Singer was shitty.
Paul Stanley is a mean guy and he even wrote a book about how bad Peter Criss and Ace were and he was insulting them!!! Gene Simmons was the same as Paul and they think they own the KISS Band too!!! I hope 🙏 Peter Criss sues Paul Stanley for writing that book!!! But I understand if he doesn't, because I would never sue anyone no matter what they say!

Paul and Gene wanted to "protect the brand" but all they did was weaken it. Nothing beats the original lineup although I loved Eric Carr and Bruce Kulick was great too.
