There are Data Security Regulations (if not, then it can be legislated in high hopes) to keep User Data here in the USA. To expunged the selling, buying, trading, showing, or sharing, etc. of User Data. To allow User Collection but only under "on server" locality. That is later on deleted before a company is merged or undone, etc.
If this was truly a cyber security concern, then that is the regulatory response/amendment. Effectively immediately to all domestic and foreign companies, individuals, groups, etc.
Economic and "the narrative" wise? That's a red fish and not worth my time. It's a fair game for any company under the 1st Amendment USA and under Commerce Regulations USA.
This allows everyone to enter the market as a company without becoming a national security issue.

Since the motivation behind the ban is data collection of the country’s population(something that federal intelligence would rather not want competition in since FB and Twitter/X do the same), major companies that work with online retailers or an online business model where streaming is factored into that, may also be effected by any new regulations for user data. More regulations of course means more legal fees to pay the cost for. Mind you, when major companies say that they’re against something that is being considered or written up to be law, it’s more so because they’d rather have lobbyists getting their chance for bidding new rules to be in their favor.

TikTok is Chinese spyware, The ban in question doesn't mean you'll be thrown in jail for using it, you can still access it with a VPN or use an older version, this is not censorship this is protecting people from an adversarial government, all the company that owns TikTok had to do was sell the US operations of TikTok to a US company, which they for whatever reason don't want to do, also TikTok is not accessable in China, so it's censored in it's place of origin. I get wanting to stand for the First Amendment, however it doesn't apply to foreign governments and especially adversarial foreign governments.

First, anime can and has been banned and censored forever. A lot of localization has been about censoring content and changing it to something more acceptable for western audiences, which is sill because people don't watch anime to see a western take on it.
Secondly, TikTok had an option to not be banned. It wasn't ideal, but if the company that owned the platform cared about the users (protip, few companies care about their customers) then they could have sold it to an american company.
The main issue is that the site was gathering data on american citizens, which yeah places like YT does that as well but it's bad when they do it too. I personally wish the govs, if anything, would start making laws protecting its citizens from those types of online predatory tactics.

I would not call it censorship because as a citizen you have the right to speak anything in any platform. Calling " Decommissioning of an echo chamber of people with brainrot content and potential data stealing" is not censorship. Honey for example did the scummy buissness and got caught years later, that could also be Tik Tok. Tik Tok was banned in India way before, if you ask anyone living there, they'd say, I couldn't be any happier that its banned. People who want to criticize often use TH-cam, Instagram and Facebook over there. I don't believe that this is censorship, if it is for the safety of the citizens. However, I also do think that there needs to be a fair law against all data regulation.

This actually affects down to Venezuela as well, because Nicolas Maduro has also banned TikTok and many other platforms to silence the people. Hence, they need to use a VPN to continue accessing such platforms, and now they can't even use USA servers to access this one app. The will have to use European servers and because of the long distance, connection is likely not going to be great.

"how strict there personal data policies are"
That means absolutely NOTHING in China.
Tik Tok is owned by Bytedance. Bytedance is based in Beijing, China.
Companies based in China are legally obligated by the Chinese Communist Party (AKA The Chinese Government) to allow the CCP to backdoor them to harvest data.
Meaning that a foreign government that is openly hostile towards the US that routinely pays their friendly local cybercriminals to perform cyber attacks on US citizens is just allowed to spy on every US citizen that uses the app.
THAT IS WHY IT IS BEING BANNED.

  • @RoninCeta
    @RoninCeta 12 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

I agree. While I couldn't care less about TikTok going away since I never used it in the first place, the fact that this decision opens the door to the government having more control what you have access to on the internet is frightening. Since the condition for TikTok returning was mainly to sell it off to a different company, this most likely won't change the precedent that was set. Unless I missed seeing something that indicates things like this won't happen again, we could still potentially see bans of other sites and services occur in the future.

I don’t like TikTok at all, as I think it contributes to an overwhelming majority of the brainless behavior we’ve seen in recent years. But at the same time, you cannot fix the issue immediately all the time; you need to damage control and slow the problem down for the most immediate threat first.
At some point, we’re going to have to either drop principles for pragmatic efficiency, or risk doing something that has significant consequences. I don’t like it, but unfortunately, there’s no way this situation will change without directly affecting foreign relations, a dramatic shift in CCP operations/principles, or a cultural shift in the US. And it will require dramatic actions for any of those to occur, which worries me.

@G12DG12D-jy6ym at most what you could somewhat do to protect the younger generations is to put up age restrictions, but not like that has actually held anyone back 😅

people can be concerned all they want, that's understandable. However, tik tok has done so much damage to younger generations we have yet to quantify it. So no tik tok being banned is a good thing. I personally think short term content should be banned in general, that includes youtube shorts, straight up. Now as for apps from china, the issue with a number of those apps is not the data collection. The issue comes down to exploitation in some cases. For example gacha games. I do not think gacha games should be banned for simply existing.
However, gacha games is content being peddles to younger generations to get them addicted early. On top of that these games are allowed to get away with exploiting gambling addicts with no oversight at how gambling would usually be regulated. So yes gacha games should be adhering to gambling laws, finding alternative monetization, or be banned, simple as. If that were to happen, a lot of the P2W trash would not seep in to more than just mobile gaming because even triple A tries to gamblify console and PC titles.

The sweeping bans you speak of doesnt actually stretch that far tho. The bill said something along the lines of foreign adversary controlled app. So that list is very small for the most part. Like i guess all chinese / russian owned apps are gunna be more easily targetted but a majority of those apps arent as invasive as tik tok was in the agrerements where it wants access to most everything on your phone and isnt in a place to heavily influence a good size portion of the population.
Like all in all, i never used tik tok so it doesnt effect me currently.

I don’t like tik tok too, I personally think there should be something like a daily off time built in, put on the app so the people could be reminded to get off the app. I agree that, if they are so against tik tok, being a Chinese app, they should be against all Chinese apps, total.

Dreamcrusher time: it's not completely like anime, no Japanese woman is going to date you, and you will be highly discriminated against.
I love me some anime or I wouldn't be watching this channel, but Weaboos really need to correct the image of Japan in their minds. It is NOT the Utopia we think it is because Anime and the REALLY don't like us like that. It's one thing if we are VISITING, but if we try and MOVE there, they don't dig that much. They PREFER to be culturally homogenous.

This is why I try to buy physical media.
Also, pretty much everything that people go after ticktok for? Is true of other social media.

Call me single-minded but I think this is a good thing. We have to pick our battles and I think tik tok is not worth saving. We can fight twice as hard when it's an app we actually care about for now I'm fine with it
