Every morning I walk along my local beach, often picking up few pieces of rubbish, mostly plastic, knowing that it may eventually pollute and harm the ocean. At a macro level it is a relatively insignificant gesture. However, imagine if more of us, say the 3 billion dependents on the blue economy, were to account for their own waste? It's a small world and we each have our part to play
Everyday, somewhere else in the world, someone throw a few pieces of rubbish for you to pick up. Is this what they meant by long-distance relationship?
Who has more people than North America, South America & Europe combined? China. Funny how you can do ‘more’ of everything when you have more people...Until the USA still comes out worse, despite one billion fewer people and being the best example of a developed country you could probably give before looking under the wrong rugs (moot point as inevitably will be the last thing you will look at anyway).

If no one knows, how can you claim they are overfishing? lol. China has taken significant measures to enacted many long term policies for the environment, doing more than most developed nations
Fascinating take on the green vs blue economy. I never thought about how existing interests are so entrenched when it comes to what we think of as a green economy vs the open opportunity an international blue economy presents.

I enjoyed this video, thanks. Would it be possible for you to do a followup video or even small series, elaborating on exactly what kind of industries and technology/research are involved in the blue economy, with some more detail on them? That would be very useful for somebody new to this. You talk a lot about global consensus, but what kind of consensus? Are there any current programmes to stimulate this economy? If not, what are people's ideas on how to do so?
Protecting nature in general is at utmost importance. Therefore, the introduction of plastic tax, carbon tax, etc. is inevitable, whereas tax reduction for green projects is much needed. At the beginning of this year the IMO and its members (incl all global operating cargo carriers ) adopted a much anticipated new standard of low-sulphur fuel that will reduce the co2 emission and pollution drastically from those big ocean ships, the cost is $ 10-12 BN across the industry just in 2020. This will be passed to the customers on a TEU/Ton level initially, until market level adjusts. It also increased the share of the even 'cleaner' LNG powered ships, as it's ROI becomes more feasible.
I find it very interesting that you are making videos about ecological problems. Let's see how that turns out... For the time being, I like the idea of trying to have economic growth and sustainability at the same time. But it is an idea with which we have to be very careful, because economic growth largely depends on greater consumption of natural resources. So I think the part on global consensus is very important not only to share guidelines and the like, but also to limit economic growth if that means destroying ecosystems.
It makes me sick how people just use the ocean as their trash can and how oil companies are so lack luster with their operations in the oceans and when they spill millions of gallons of oil into the oceans they never get properly punished for their faults. It’s disgusting.
