Went here once as a young teenager. Always stuck with me how cool and surreal this place was. Glad you videotaped it.

Oh wow, I loved this part of the museum and spent many hours here when I lived in Victoria. I can't believe this is happening. I was devastated to hear that the Old Town was being removed, but I didn't know it included the iconic ship Discovery. What's going to happen to all the artifacts? Maybe some rich person could open another museum dedicated to BC's rich past. On my next visit to Victoria, I know where I won't be visiting. This is a sad day indeed. Thanks for the tour, I'd forgotten what a great experience this part of the museum was.

Thank you for posting this Tony! I have shared it with friends who have previously visited Victoria and our wonderful museum. What a loss to
Victoria!! I can remember spending 8 hours in that museum and still not having enough time to enjoy everything I wanted to see! It's a crime to decimate our past as well!

Thank you so much for this video! I am so sad they are closing some of the exhibits, that I grew up absolutely loving.. I so wanted to bring my son to this and I never thought it would change, he won't get to see it now..the way it once was. I remember going as a kid and it was free too! It was amazing.. my Grandma used to drop us off and we'd spend hours, it was wonderful.

Thank you so much for posting your tour. You’ve brought back so many memories, and shown me so much I’ve never seen. I worked a short walk from the Museum, watched it being built (the amazing decorated construction hoardings) and visited often between its opening, and my departure from Victoria in 1974. It’s been lovely to revisit such a special place with you.

I'll never forget setting off the alarm as a kid because I was leaning too far over the rail trying to smell the pie.

My kid did exactly that in the hotel scene while I was filming! He took a selfie stick to try to look around the corner. I didn't include that in this video as I edited it out, including the security guy coming to check it out

I set the alarm off as a preschooler because I wanted to cavort on that really nice looking beach in the natural history section! 😆

I too grew up in Victoria. Langford actually. In the 70's our elementary school would do field trips here. We loved it. The first thing we would see when entering the museum was a huge carved indian canoe with full over sized impressive warrior indians paddling it. We got to pan for gold in the gold mine & got to keep the gold. We knew it was fake but it was so fun. As teenagers we would go there on weekends when it was free because we had no money. We would spend a hour in the movie theater until it looped. I remember the smell of apple pie in the Old town kitchen. We were always trying to peer into the blacksmiths shop thinking we would see someone. This Old town exhibit is priceless & to destroy it for political correctness is the height of political correctness. This is a crime of destruction of the memories of real history. Until I watched this video I didn't realize the richness in the preserved antique pieces in this exhibit. I call for a halt to any further destruction of this masterpiece until we all agree what will replace it. That said, I fully welcome a redesign of the First Nations galleries. This original display was built with the conqueror's vision. Since this is a provincial museum, the museum should be in consultation with every tribe across the province to agree on a unified vision on how the First Nations exhibit should look. I expect this consultation period to take as much time as it needs much like the national reconciliation discussions. This should ensure more than enough time to justify destroying a national treasure.

Erroll: I was visiting Port Alberni over the summer and a similar warrior canoe carving is on the riverfront. I've been meaning to research if it is the same carving, it remains impressive. So many memories.

Thank you so much for this video. This was also one my very favourite exhibits in the museum. I took my children and grandchildren there. Sad to see it go as it was a glimpse into Victoria's history. I used to think of my Grandparents when went there.

I am very disappointed in the Royal BC Museum for getting rid of these exhibits as I spent countless hours as a kid in these areas and watching the silent movies and enjoying my time there to no end. Spending hours in the old town and on the Discovery, In the long house and so many more exhibits.
Short sighted of the museum for destroying these most wonderful exhibits. And Yes I can still smell the cinnamon upstairs in the Grand Hotel. This 3rd floor will be so missed.

Who decides to get rid of these things. Do the people of Victoria vote at all? Or just like 50 ppl decide for everyone without notifying anybody

As a young person, what they’ve done to the museum is absolutely evil. Thank you for this video, I can only wish I got to see it for myself.

Thank you for this. I was and am so disappointed that the RBCM has chosen to totally get rid of the displays on the 3rd floor. I see no point in going to the museum now! We may come to the IMAX but we will give the museum a pass. Very disappointing.

Great vid, remember seeing the moon rocks there in the early 70's. the big problem I see there was the inacessabiltiy for people with a disability and maybe a shortage of room, as for the earthquake concern is the Birdcage up to snuff ,is Cook still on the top of it. Also loved the old library on Yates. Change is good but ignoring the epidemic ,cause and growth of homlessness is not.
