  • Rothna Begum is a human rights activist with over 10 years experience working on human rights issues in the Middle East. As the women's rights researcher on the Middle East and North Africa at Human Rights Watch, she led the investigation and campaign to end abuses against migrant domestic workers in the Gulf region; documented the sexual violence and slavery of Yezidi women by ISIS in Iraq; investigated the government's response on domestic violence in Morocco, Lebanon, and Iraq; campaigned for the end of the male guardianship system and the ban against women driving in Saudi Arabia; and lobbied for an end to child marriage in Yemen.     The issue here is why pay for an expensive wedding when you can't afford it? just to marry into a son who's more economically better off? by then putting yourself in more debt?

    But this doesn’t happen with all families some families treat the migrant workers with kindness and others buy luxury things for there workers

    Lot's of Asian agents in Gulf countries are Exploding the workers working there. They make them work for more than 10 hours/day for the minimum salary 😞

    So should we call the Indian Ocean “The Ocean”? So cringeworthy to watch I cannot take her seriously when not one mention of the proper name of this body of water, the Persian Gulf, is uttered.

      @@AC-ov9ox I already know and understand the plight of South Asian migrants who are abused and work here. The TED Talk was good but I’m not going to give abundant praise when there’s a gaping flaw in her presentation.
