*Shin only roars when he's in severe pain.* After learning that, I couldn't see this movie the same again. Knowing he's constantly in pain but can still have his limits where he can't handle it anymore that he screams. All i see is a creature that never asked to be born and cries for his misery to end.
"A shaft of light is all need, to cease the darkness killing me." He doesnt know what hit him, but his body is automatically defending itself from the threat. Thats chilling.
I just realised this song embodys shin "if i die in this world, who will know something of me?" refers to if he dies, he will only be a beast in the eyes of others that dont know his feelings, intentions, or thoughts. For it is just a monster.
Thats why i cant listen to the opera or watch that scene without crying 😭 Also Shin Godzilla doesn't attack until they make him bleed by dropping missiles on him. Shin made the ultimate decision to defend himself against the darkness (humans) in order to survive 😭
@@kennethcarloscomar6900 Mostly because of how THIS Godzilla doesnt choose to BE godzilla. Its just running around in constant pain, and everytime it gets attacked for the collateral damage he does by simply walking around, its forced to defend himself by causing more destruction. Its not a monster, its just forced to be born AS A MONSTER
@@kennethcarloscomar6900godzilla was created as both a metaphor for the destruction of nuclear weapons and as a wrathful victim of them. Even the bumps on his skin are meant to evoke the tumors people would develop as a result of radiation poisoning. So now depending on the incarnation. He either takes his revenge on the ones who made him a monster or his simple existence means he can not exist in this world without harming humanity
I just love how both vocal represent Godzilla. One is his mind, is pure pain, he wants to die and he can't take it anymore pain. He's just in pain and don't know why. The other one is his body, his survival instinc saying "I know it hurts, but we need to live. I don't know why, but we need to carry on even if this pain is hellish, we need to evolve so this pain go away". Is a angel and a devil, nature and radiation. The creature and the god
This godzilla wasn't a representation of nuclear warfare btw it was a representation of the government's slow response to the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster
@@quantumpanic and? It's still a representation of the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster and a satire of the Japanese government just because they change it to Americans dumping the waste doesn't take away the fact that that's what its a representation of that
He’s not immortal but it would take him a very long time to die. His body is kinda like a siphonophore. Even if it’s just down to one cell he’ll still be alive. So in theory shin is immortal but through other things like atom decay he is finite.
Another thing to note: In traditional Opera, the soprano role was often given to the damsel in distress or female protagonist, whereas the bass role was given to the villain of the story. The balance between the distressed original creature in the soprano and the villainous monster in the bass makes this a great piece.
Yeah that’s a nice touch, the song starts with the female opera I guess signifying how shin is in distress and is confused of where they are, and later in the song the bass singer comes in in reference to how people and shin themselves portray them as the villain later in the movie, because shin knows the damage they are causing, they can’t control it because of the pain and agony it’s in, and the constant evolution is just making it worse, (that’s what I think don’t take my word on it)
1:44 absolute chills Now imagine you woke up on fire, but there is no fire. You run outside screaming in pain begging for help, but you're the last human so no help is coming and your only hope for peace is if the ants can get their shit together and put you out of your misery.
Isn't there a chemical that create actuall fireless fire? I remember something about racing fuel and racing crash that got that exact incident. Is horrfying
Shin Godzilla is a masterpiece, and this song only shows us further his struggle. He was a creature, dying, but mutating beyond his control. He didn’t mean to destroy anything, or to hurt anyone. In fact, that’s probably the last thing he wants to do. But he has to, because it’s the one thing keeping him alive, and he knows that no one will understand his struggle. His roars are not of victory, but of pain and depression. He’s crying for help, but no one will save him. He doesn’t kill for sport or for fun, he kills because that’s the only thing he can do.
I agree, but I think it has multiple meanings. Female voice: the "humanity," alluding to the fate of Dr. Goro Maki, and its own will to simply not suffer Male voice: the "monster," it's will to live, spread, evolve out of its pain, and destroy what made it suffer.
@@TheEggHunterThats what makes shin godzilla so sad to watch .not because its referencing something tragic that happened but its captures that the animal doesnt want to kill anyone it just wants to have someone kill it
"Shin Godzilla was a dark lord of the Godzilla's. So powerful and so wise, He could mutate to different but keep making people...... Dying. He had such a tragedy, he could not even keep the pain, from going away. He became so painful to see, the only thing he was afraid of was, keeping the pain, which, eventually of course he did, unfortunately the humans set explosives onto his feet, then they fed him a poison, which froze him. It's Ironic, he had the pain, but he couldn't get rid of it."
If the Legendary Godzilla is an action movie, Shin would be a tragedy. A tragedy about a creature too strong, too big and too monstrous for his own good.
Speaking of Legendary’s films, Ken Watanabe’s character was named Dr. Ishiro Serizawa as a tribute to Dr. Daisuke Serizawa and even has a scene in “Godzilla: King of the Monsters” that pays tribute to the original 1954 film, with a twist. As a result, I often liked to imagine G14 and GKOTM as unofficial sequels to G54 (kind of like how the Heisei and Millennium films still incorporate G54 into its official continuity), and Daisuke Serizawa as Ishiro Serizawa’s uncle to tie the films together. When G54, G14, and GKOTM are then watched back-to-back as a trilogy, one can then interpret G54 as the tragic film like Shin Godzilla, while G14 and GKOTM are more uplifting stories about mankind having another chance to reconcile with nature, by learning to cooperate with the second Godzilla in protecting the Earth rather than once more making enemies with tragic consequences for both.
Fun fact: the reason that Shin Godzilla's atomic breath is purple, unlike almost every other Godzilla, is because it symbolically represents his pain and desperation. Purple is the color of great suffering, part of the reason purple is worn by catholic priests during lent, the season of suffering and atonement. This meaning is also highlighted when you consider that Shin only develops his atomic breath after he has been wounded by the bombs and roars in agony.
Everytime I think this movie can't possibly get even sadder, it does. It's always one more comment adding another layer of sadness. Christ, I love Shin G.
HOLD UP, YOU ARE TELLING ME THE GUY WHO BRING DEPRESSION TO ME THROUGH NEON GENESIS EVANGELION IS THE SAME GUY BRING DEPRESSION TO ME THROUGH SHIN GODZILLA!?
This song really highlights Shin's pain. As if he's having an existential crisis. He wants to die but his body isn't allowing him to. He's suffering just by being alive. Poor Shin. :(
In my opinion, Shin Gojira is the best written Godzilla ever! This song explores on Shins emotions and his feelings. He was never evil or bad. He only defends himself from everything around him. Shin doesn't know why he was born into this world and his powers.
@@Giuseppegranata7067 They do their own seperate thing. Minus One upgrades the original Godzilla and truly makes us feel for the humans. Shin on the other hand puts a spin on the original Godzilla while keeping it's essence.

And the fact that radiation caused this. The humans threw radioactive waste in the water the fish mutated and felt horrible pain he comes to land humans think *oh no big scary mutated abomination comes to attack us* not knowing they caused it to exist the fish evolves again and is red tall. And still shin lives the rest of his life in pure pain the lyrics do mean what shin Godzilla feels.
-1 Godzilla's actions was basically justified. Dude was just chilling in his home island and also chill with the locals and suddenly a war broke out in his turf. And he saw 2 bombs drop in Japan near his home and he decides to give humanity a one simple reminder. Humanity might have mastered the nuclear energy and turn it into a weapon, but Godzilla has none of those. Because he is far worse.
Well both are victims, humans have to kill it since its destroying shit theres no option, Shin is pretty much an abomination mutated with a lot of organisms wich explains the ending of those organisms escaping by evolving meaning that they can evolve at will, it was just to late, and they didn't know what was happening, neither did humans, so in this case both were victims shin was just a tragic abomination that got forced and put together without knowing, and humans can't let a giant monster roam the planet, if anything it's helping this beings dream to just die.
@@duck7835 the humans are the enemies there the antagonist shin is basically the main character… he has his own song he also has the characteristics of a main character and he really just seems like a depressed human.
@@duck7835 The point of the story is that the humans are by definition, the villains. But they're not 'evil' per say. They mutated Godzilla with the nuclear waste they dumped away. They ruined an innocent creatures life with something they don't even need to survive naturally. Then, when Godzilla arrived. Screaming in pain, begging for help from anyone and driven by an animal need to survive. The people who did this to him tried to kill him. They end up freezing him which according to the lore, he is STILL suffering. Because as far as we know, his body isn't dead. As that requires every cell to be destroyed. They did this. Then they tried to kill a creature who just wanted help. Then froze him in - as far as we know - constant torment. But, humanity has no CHOICE but to defend themselves. Humanity has no sympathy for what they created but they can't let him near their cities whether they do or not. Sad.
This song evokes the image of a creature in unspeakable pain, stranded in a place unknown, yet that keeps going despite it all, because it's all it has. No matter how much suffering it brings, no matter how much more deformed it gets with every step, how much more monstruous it becomes... it has to continue. Because it has to live.
This is much more than a monster movie. It's just hits too deep, the conflict between losing the will to live for no fault of yours and another part inside of you fighting your inner demons. On the other perspective how humanity has fallen to the point of polluting the only rock of life for every being and the suffering of those beings for no fault of theirs. No words, it's a masterpiece.
before learning about this song’s lyrics and shin’s constant pain, suffering and confusion, I just thought he was a monster rampaging through tokyo, causing destruction just for the fun of it. now, the entire movie has a different meaning to me. it’s not like your average godzilla movie. it’s much darker, realistic, and somewhat depressing. I never thought I’d say this, but damn… poor gojira.
This movie went back to the roots of Godzilla being an accident and something that was created by mankind's folly. This Godzilla is simply put, an abomination. Something that shouldn't even exist let alone walk among man. He is in constant, unbearable pain from *SIMPLY BEING ALIVE* and confused as to why he is even here or what his purpose is. Shin Godzilla is a complete and total accident gone horribly wrong, and is suffering for no reason other than simply existence being a cruel mistress. He never asked for this, he never wanted this yet it was forced upon him. Humanity transformed him into the ultimate being of terror and destruction from our own negligence and stupidity, and as a final act of retaliation Shin Godzilla punishes us to remind us what the true downfall of man is: arrogance.
godzilla was created to portray what the nuclear bombing of hiroshima meant to the Japanese, this Gojira buttons that feeling of terror back, absolute horror that humanity created themselves and can't stop said terror.

Shin and 54’ are so similar yet different as beings. 54’ is so…angry, his rampage is wrathful and deliberate. “You are why I am in pain, you insignificant ants, suffer as I am suffering”. But shin is a scared child lashing out at the world around it. “Why does everything hurt? How do I make it stop hurting? Why can’t I make it stop hurting?! PLEASE MAKE IT STOP HURTING!”
Fun godzilla fact: in the second film "Godzilla Raids Again" they basically confirmed that godzilla has ptsd from the atomic bomb and will lash out at any bright lights.
This is even more obvious in Shin's 2nd and 3rd form when it is just thrashing wildly in pain and is spewing blood everywhere. It basically comes on to land because it has no idea why it's body in so much pain. It's an agonized and terrified confusion.
Knowing the song's meant to take place from Godzilla's perspective, it makes me think of that quote... "Monsters are tragic beings. They are born too tall, too strong, too heavy. They are not evil by choice. That is their tragedy." -Ishiro Honda

Shin only really roars when in pain, it's a tad hard to notice but I think it's correct The first roar when second form, when he started to heat up, he roared and ran into the ocean, In the next, it's when the bunker buster bombs (which they dropped on his HEAD earlier in the movie and did Jack squat, as well as bunker buster bombs being designed to tunnel deep into something before blowing up) impact, when he's hit in the back and blood showers the streets, he roars in pain before laying waste to the city atomic fire style, but then, a tiny detail, when he funnels it into the purple laser, after he closes his mouth to shoot the beams from his back, in fact the moment he closes his mouth, he squeaks a small roar can be heard, along with the sound of hissing flames being extinguished, and some smoke Even his atomic breath causes him pain, and in his last roar, he is being "put down" so to speak by the coagulatent, it's the moment he actually begins to freeze, and this one, I feel is different, I feel its a thank you, his pain, his suffering, his torment, it can end Shin is ANYTHING but stupid, I think it knew it was being stopped by the coagulatent, but it wasn't allowing itself to be defeated, somewhat like "who will know", there are 2 voices, what I believe to be the body and mind The female voice seems to be the mind, mourning it's pain and yearning for death, while the deeper male voice is the body, the primal urge for self preservation at any cost, to survive no matter the pain, and once the mind realises it can finally rest, he roars as a thank you, Or maybe I'm digging WAY too deep then again this was made by the NEON GENISIS EVANGALION producer and that story is layers upon layers so I dunno
The way that both voices come together to sing "killing me" gives me chills. They both sang about different things, one surviving and one giving in. Them both coming together to say that line just speaks to me on a spiritual level.
its like the deep is like the things you see in cartoons the bad & good they are both commanding shin to do different things that why he's so deppresed cuz he doesnt know what to do
This was a long time ago but I recall someone mentioning the female voice is shin godzilla's conscious while the male voice is the doctor who went into the ocean where Shin was.
And i realised this in one of the sentences in this was "as long as breath comes from my mouth, i may stand the slightest chance" kinda reminded me that shin was confued, scared, and wanted to survive.
"to cease the darkness killing me..." oh my god, this line right here hit me in the heart. it perfectly encapsulates the unending pain of godzilla's radiation eating away at him.

Fun Fact: Godzilla is seen as a metaphor or personification of the destructive power of nuclear weapons, particularly in response to the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The original 1954 Godzilla film was heavily influenced by the fear and trauma caused by those bombings and the dangers of nuclear testing. While not entirely wrong, it wasn’t the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki that specifically inspired Godzilla. I just realized, this is in fact quite the inspirational song. Like, it describes what people might feel like when they are depressed and going through hard times, but then also says kinda don't give up, where there's life there's hope, that kind of message.
Don't be depressed, just incinerate an entire city, and follow it up with an atomic breath that burns through whatever it touches nearly instantaneously
I feel that depression looks different. Depression is when you don't want do anything. You just lay on bed and want to cry, but you can't. This song describes how shin godzilla feel and his toughts, that shin don't really wanted to become this monster and shin pretty much don't want to kill anything. The lyrics are 100% from Goji's perspective. Let's analyze it carefully, start to finish: "if I die in this world, who will know something of me? I am lost, no one knows, there's no trace of my yearning" I've heard a lot of contention specifically pointed at this verse, because the notion that Godzilla's death going unnoticed is ridiculous, but if you look a little deeper, Shin isn't lamenting over being forgotten in death; he's lamenting that nobody will truly know who he was, a creature found lost in another world, afraid of what stands before him and his new, dire circumstance. He doesn't want to die a monster, he just wants to return to the world he knew before he came to be the beast we know him as. He's a fish that, very suddenly, found himself in a pond too small. Moving on, "but I must carry on, nothing worse can befall. All my fears, all my tears, tell my heart there's a hole." This part is really interesting, because it introduces the deeper bass filled secondary choir, as opposed to the light, high pitched feminine choir from before. Before digging into the lyrics, let me tell you why this is so important: many people have argued that the two separate voices may be different characters, maybe one is Shin but the other is humanity. I even saw a comment theorizing it's to bringl mystery to Goji's gender. Here's what it really means- Godzilla is facing a conflict of personality. The voices are two parts of a whole, a duality that tells the story of Godzilla's death as a simple animal and rebirth as a monster, his metamorphosis. The lighter voice represents the sadness and innocence in Godzilla's nature, speaking primarily of the fate that has befallen him and how it is an inescapable fate, whereas the deeper voice tells of the rise of Shin, speaking of how he must destroy and slaughter to survive, as well as how it will continue on at whatever cost, just to find some kind of hope that may or may not exist. As for the lyrics in this verse themselves, Godzilla is saying that he must carry on destroying because there's nothing left in him anyways, and there's nothing more painful that could happen to him than what already has, his tears and fears making it clear to him that there is a hole in his heart and his very soul. He is ruined, and there's nothing left but to follow his base instincts and just survive. "I wear a void, not even hope. A downward slope, is all I see." The remnants of Goji's soul tell of how it has been wrapped in dark, trapped inside nothing, and that he cannot even hope anymore. All that is left for him is to continue falling through the downward slope, the only path that Goji can even perceive at the this point. "As long as breath comes from my mouth, I may yet stand the slightest chance, a shaft of light is all I need to cease the darkness killing me." Shin has reached the breaking point, he is nearing his death and he knows it- but he is still alive. Somehow, by some miracle and in the most twisted way, Shin has found the hope that he had lost before, but at the cost of destroying everything around him. As long as breath, an allusion to his atomic breath power, continues to flow in him then he might be able to continue living, whatever that even means for him anymore. To escape the void around him, to stop the vicious assault being laid upon him, all he needs is that shaft of light, that one ray of hope both figuratively, and with the manifestation of his atomic breath, literally. Godzilla has been through the wringer- trapped in an alien world in a body he does not know, surrounded by death and destruction, all alone, and nobody will know who or what he once was; all he can do to prevent the entire world from trying to slaughter him is to fight back and annihilate everything in his path. Being placed inside a monster wasn't his fault, but choosing to become one to live was all he could do. It really is a tragedy, and it really is all about Shin Godzilla.
Something else I noticed that's pretty cool is how the two voices fuse together on the last line, both the animal and the monster can agree that they need to save themselves from certain death. Coolio.
I’m gonna make an analysis on the lyrics. This is an opinion, feel free to correct me. We’re going onto the first part “If I die in this world Who will know, something of me I am lost, no one knows There’s no trace of my yearning” First the line, “If I die, who will know something of me”. He’s scared that if he dies, people will just carry on. He wants the people to know and learn from their mistakes. Their wrong-doings led to his upbringing and that Japan’s destruction is not his fault, but theirs. Next, “I am lost, no one knows, there’s no trace, of my yearning”. He clearly did not want to destroy and bring sadness over Japan. He’s constantly mutating against his will and he’s “lost”. The people of Japan think that he wants to kill them, when in fact he’s just pleading for help. No one can understand the pain that he feels. His roars are a plead of help, a sign that he’s in pain. To further prove it, look at his design. Other Godzilla’s look dominant, per say; like Legendary Godzilla. Legendary G’s design makes him look intimidating and menacing. But this Godzilla’s design is tragic, it looks painful and it makes something like a burn on your finger look like a scratch. He wants to be free of his suffering. Second part “But I must carry on Nothing worse can befall All my fears, all my tears Tell my heart, there’s a hole” This part is voiced by men, signifying that this is a different conscience from the last one. The line “But I must carry on, nothing worse can befall”. This part of the conscience is telling him to carry on and keep moving forward. It’s telling him nothing can be worse than the pain he feels. “All my fears, all my tears, tell my heart there’s a hole”. This side wants Godzilla to get rid of any fears or hesitations he has in order to push on. His side tells Godzilla that it should discard every thing feeling he has in order for survival. Third part “I wear a void not even hope a downward slope is all I see” This part is voiced by women, or to be figurative “angels”. This is the same conscience we see in part 1. “I wear a void, not even hope”. This says that Godzilla wear the void of his past self. That he isn’t the simple, small and peaceful creature he used to be. And even if he wants to go back to that past, there’s no chance for it. Not even hope can save him from the cruel fate he’s experiencing. To put it simply, he can’t even hope to be the creature he used to be. “A downward slope is all I see”. He knows that if he goes down the road he’s going down, he’ll end up scared, lost and dead. He knows no matter what, his doom will always await him. Last part “As long as breath comes from my mouth I may yet stand the slightest chance A shaft of light is all I need To cease the darkness killing me” This side is voiced by men, the conflicting side of Godzilla or the “devils” “As long a breath comes from my mouth, I may yet stand the slightest chance”. This is in a response to the downward slope that he sees. This side is trying to convince Godzilla that as long as his heart is beating or as long as he breathe, he will stand a chance. It wants to fight, fight till the end. “A shaft of light is all I need, to cease the darkness killing me”. The shaft of light references Godzilla’s atomic blast. This side says that the atomic blast is all Godzilla needs to kill the “darkness” which in this case are the humans. In order to survive, he needs to kill the people who try to kill him. If he doesn’t, who knows for sure what his fate will be. Conclusion: The two voices in the song are his moral sides. One side says that he should stop, it knows that he’s tragic and it says that it wants the suffering (both on he human and Godzilla sides) to stop. Though, the other side says that he should fight, to survive; that in order to live, he needs to kill those who oppose him. In between all of this, there’s Godzilla himself. He just wants to be free of this tragedy and he just wants to go back home. He doesn’t want to kill, he doesn’t want to fight, and he doesn’t want to stop moving. He just wants to be normal again. Verdict: It’s tragic, and compared to all the other Godzilla’s; this one is the darkest. Again, this is an opinion; feel free to correct me. Edit: I appreciate the likes but I would like to change something. A couple of people in the replies pointed out the idea of the mind contrasting the body and I actually prefer it over the duality of his conscience. His mind is pleading to stop, he doesn’t want to hurt anyone; he just wants to go back to before the radiation, before the suffering, before the birth of the tragic monster we know today. But his body would like to disagree. The body wants to survive, to fight. To use that shaft of light (atomic breath) to be the beacon of his hope. This is a way more beautiful perspective as opposed to my last one. I thank you guys for giving your perspectives too, it’s been fun reading the replies to this comment. Anyways, I’m gonna dip back to the nuclear wasteland I call my room to sleep.
This is the tale of a creature gravely damaged by the mistakes of humanity. The unknown damages they are causing. This creature had no idea what to expect. At one point, he’s a normal aquatic creature living in the ocean, the next, he’s getting nuclear waste dumped on him by the creatures from above and mutates into a creature he never wanted to be. A monster. He had no choice. He does not know why this happened to him. It just... *happened* to him. Scared, he flees to dry land, not knowing what damage befalls him or the things on land. Once there, he is then bombarded with screams and loud noises he is unaware of with creatures he is unaware of all the while losing blood. This throws him into an even bigger panic, losing more blood, adding to the pain, and prompts him into destroying everything in his path in order to live. He then learns that he must adapt to his new environment and force himself to evolve. Braking his bones and replacing them with new ones, stretching and tearing apart his flesh for new parts to be filled in, and suffering all that pain just in order for him to live, he lets out his first roar. A roar of pain. He is then attacked by the ones he calls “alien” to him, and learning he is still not suitable for this environment, he flees in a panic to the place he feels most comfortable. Deep below. He soon mutates even more and gets bigger and bigger. He soon realizes he is to big for his home. Knowing his death is slowly drawing near, and what lurks above, he returns to the world above. He then re-encounters the sounds and creatures he hates most but fights through it. However, this time they retaliate. Bombarding him with explosives all because they are scared. Which only adds to his fear and confusion. And adds a new emotion. Sadness. Sadness that the creatures who ruined his life now want to kill him. Sadness that he does not know why this is happening to him. Sadness that the world may never know of his tragedy. He has become empty. His heart is now hollow and void. He sees nothing for him in the near future. Nothing else left for him. All he does know is that he must continue his path of destruction. Follow this downward slope of chaos. All in order to live. He must become what these creatures see him as. A monster. Even knowing his fate in the end. It is then that he is gravely damaged by these creatures dropping more explosives onto him. He then let’s out another roar. However it is not a reaction to pain. Though he is feeling immeasurable pain. It is a cry for help. A cry that his pain could end. That this attack would cease! That his life could be spared and that he could return to a normal life as an animal! Even though he knew it could never happen and he had no more hope left he still clung desperately to that wish! But his cry is ignored. All he knows now is that he must adapt in order to live. He then forces himself to forgo evolution once more. Braking his jaw, shredding his throat, and burning his insides, a raging fire falls out of his mouth. But these flames are not out of any pure hatred or rage. They are out of desperation. As the flames of Hell burn through his throat they turn to a shaft of light to allow him the slightest chance at living. This amount of pain and energy he puts out just to live quickly tires him out and he then goes into a rest where he either wishes he could Rest In Peace or soon be able to cease the darkness killing him. Forever cementing himself as the thing he hates the most. A monster.
As expected from Shirō Sagisu, the creator of this piece, and also the creator of a majority of Bleach, Berserk and neon genesis Evangelion osts. What an amazing composer
Interviews with the monsters: Gojira (Japanese): "Have I worked with Shin? Well... no, not really. I've talked with him, but he never seemed to be comfortable around crowds. He always looked sad, but always came to parties. And you know Mosura, she doesn't like bad vibes so she tried to cheer him up one time. He just stared needles through her. He kind of freaks us out a bit, but I guess knowing what we know now it makes sense." Godzilla (American): "Everyone knows Shin, I do too. I was put on this earth to be a protector, a balance scale if you will. Gojira is a hero to the Japanese even if some of his past acts weren't all that heroic. Then there's Mosura, she helps Goji win fights cuz she's cool like that. Ghidorah, although he's evil on set is a great guy who doesn't want to destroy the world. Then there's Shin. I... can't really place Shin. I got to talking with him one night, all he ever did was nod or shake his head. Like all of us he's very method, so when I asked if those missiles in his back hurt a lot, all he said was, 'they weren't as bad as the rest of my life'. That kind of stuck with me. He hasn't told anybody what's bugging him but we know something's wrong now. Just... hey Shin, if you're hearing this, we're here for you man, you're a monster like us too." Ghidorah Ichi: "Guys? You ever talk to Shin?" Ni: "Only when you have." San (Kevin): "He's weird, I kind of like him though." Mosura: "He's odd... that's about all I can say about him. But I told everybody why he's like that. I think it gave us some new input on his life. The poor guy never asked for this. I'm surprised he took on the Godzilla role with such gusto. I think he had talks with the director, asked him to make the movie less of a monster movie, more of a view into his life. I think that was the right decision."

If the Legendary Godzilla is an action movie, Shin would be a tragedy. A tragedy about a creature too strong, too big and too monstrous for his own good.
Shin also lives in constant pain and will never die. No one knows about his pain and at the end he creates beings that will understand him.
Oh, I hadn't thought of that. You make me sad. :(
Speaking of Legendary’s films, Ken Watanabe’s character was named Dr.
When G54, G14, and GKOTM are then watched back-to-back as a trilogy, one can then interpret G54 as the tragic film like Shin Godzilla, while G14 and GKOTM are more uplifting stories about mankind having another chance to reconcile with nature, by learning to cooperate with the second Godzilla in protecting the Earth rather than once more making enemies with tragic consequences for both.
tragedy about a creature tearing itself in every direction, agony beyond recognition.
The tragedy of God
Fun fact: the reason that Shin Godzilla's atomic breath is purple, unlike almost every other Godzilla, is because it symbolically represents his pain and desperation. On the other perspective how humanity has fallen to the point of polluting the only rock of life for every being and the suffering of those beings for no fault of theirs.
No words, it's a masterpiece.
There is also a lot of commentary on Japan in particular, mainly about its painfully inefficient bureaucracy and the government's inaction.
Well the earthquake and tsunami was in a heavily populated area, it was bound to slow any government.
before learning about this song’s lyrics and shin’s constant pain, suffering and confusion, I just thought he was a monster rampaging through tokyo, causing destruction just for the fun of it.
now, the entire movie has a different meaning to me. it’s not like your average godzilla movie. it’s much darker, realistic, and somewhat depressing. I never thought I’d say this, but damn… poor gojira.
I wanted to write the absolutely same thing.
this is like an updated version of the 1954 film.First film was showing the 1945 atomic bombs as godzilla.(I hope I managed to explain it)
eh godzilla can suck it ah boo hoo im sad now let me go cause mass genocide but its okay but im too big and stupid to understand what im doing
That's Hideaki Anno for you

This movie went back to the roots of Godzilla being an accident and something that was created by mankind's folly.
This Godzilla is simply put, an abomination. Something that shouldn't even exist let alone walk among man.
He is in constant, unbearable pain from *SIMPLY BEING ALIVE* and confused as to why he is even here or what his purpose is.
Shin Godzilla is a complete and total accident gone horribly wrong, and is suffering for no reason other than simply existence being a cruel mistress.
He never asked for this, he never wanted this yet it was forced upon him.
Humanity transformed him into the ultimate being of terror and destruction from our own negligence and stupidity, and as a final act of retaliation Shin Godzilla punishes us to remind us what the true downfall of man is: arrogance.
godzilla was created to portray what the nuclear bombing of hiroshima meant to the Japanese, this Gojira buttons that feeling of terror back, absolute horror that humanity created themselves and can't stop said terror.
totally agree.just look at the Atomic breath scene.hes vomiting.he throws his head in all directions hoping to get this strange thing that comes out of his mouth off.or when he uses the back spines.for the Lack of a better comparison,it looks like a pimple bursting open!

OK I think legendery gojira is stronger
Shin Goji: "Existence is pain"
Shin and 54’ are so similar yet different as beings. 54’ is so…angry, his rampage is wrathful and deliberate. “You are why I am in pain, you insignificant ants, suffer as I am suffering”. But shin is a scared child lashing out at the world around it. “Why does everything hurt? How do I make it stop hurting? Why can’t I make it stop hurting?! PLEASE MAKE IT STOP HURTING!”
I know right...
Poor shin
I just 1954 was like "WHAT THEY BOMB ME AM MAD."
That is their tragedy."
-Ishiro Honda

I mean he didn't need to eat the radioactive waste he could have just left like a normal animal
A E S T H E T I C He probably wandered by it totally by accident or from a random current. Either way, if humans disposed of the waste properly he would’ve been fine. But we didn’t and Gojira is the price we pay.
Shin only really roars when in pain, it's a tad hard to notice but I think it's correct
The first roar when second form, when he started to heat up, he roared and ran into the ocean,
In the next, it's when the bunker buster bombs (which they dropped on his HEAD earlier in the movie and did Jack squat, as well as bunker buster bombs being designed to tunnel deep into something before blowing up) impact, when he's hit in the back and blood showers the streets, he roars in pain before laying waste to the city atomic fire style, but then, a tiny detail, when he funnels it into the purple laser, after he closes his mouth to shoot the beams from his back, in fact the moment he closes his mouth, he squeaks a small roar can be heard, along with the sound of hissing flames being extinguished, and some smoke
Even his atomic breath causes him pain, and in his last roar, he is being "put down" so to speak by the coagulatent, it's the moment he actually begins to freeze,
and this one, I feel is different, I feel its a thank you, his pain, his suffering, his torment, it can end
Shin is ANYTHING but stupid, I think it knew it was being stopped by the coagulatent, but it wasn't allowing itself to be defeated, somewhat like "who will know",
there are 2 voices, what I believe to be the body and mind
The female voice seems to be the mind, mourning it's pain and yearning for death, while the deeper male voice is the body, the primal urge for self preservation at any cost, to survive no matter the pain, and once the mind realises it can finally rest, he roars as a thank you,
Or maybe I'm digging WAY too deep then again this was made by the NEON GENISIS EVANGALION producer and that story is layers upon layers so I dunno
So true 😢
The way that both voices come together to sing "killing me" gives me chills. They both sang about different things, one surviving and one giving in. Them both coming together to say that line just speaks to me on a spiritual level.
its like the deep is like the things you see in cartoons the bad & good they are both commanding shin to do different things that why he's so deppresed cuz he doesnt know what to do
This was a long time ago but I recall someone mentioning the female voice is shin godzilla's conscious while the male voice is the doctor who went into the ocean where Shin was.

He’s simply an animal that was exposed to something that turned him into a monster. I bet he really has no ill will; he looks angry, tired but most importantly, scared. Look at his movements and his skin. You can’t tell me that he doesn’t look like he’s in pain.

Godzilla's appearance and destructive abilities often symbolize the horrors of nuclear warfare and its impact on society and the environment.

@@spyknight8857 seriously? where did you hear this
The lyrics are 100% from Goji's perspective. Let's analyze it carefully, start to finish:
"if I die in this world, who will know something of me?
Coolio.
I can agree with you because this situation can apply to real people who has that innwr conflict within themselves
Holy crap! That was deep.
You gotta make a video out of this comment bro
Bro I bet you are good at writing essays at school
I’m gonna make an analysis on the lyrics. This is an opinion, feel free to correct me.
We’re going onto the first part
“If I die in this world
Who will know, something of me
I am lost, no one knows
There’s no trace of my yearning”
First the line, “If I die, who will know something of me”.
Second part
“But I must carry on
Nothing worse can befall
All my fears, all my tears
Tell my heart, there’s a hole”
This part is voiced by men, signifying that this is a different conscience from the last one.
Third part
“I wear a void
not even hope
a downward slope
is all I see”
This part is voiced by women, or to be figurative “angels”.
Last part
“As long as breath comes from my mouth
I may yet stand the slightest chance
A shaft of light is all I need
To cease the darkness killing me”
This side is voiced by men, the conflicting side of Godzilla or the “devils”
“As long a breath comes from my mouth, I may yet stand the slightest chance”.
Conclusion:
The two voices in the song are his moral sides.

These lyrics came from the mind of Hideaki Anno, creator of Evangelion. You can tell how badly was his psyche when he was struggling with depression.

...nice
A monster.
My gosh I never heard someone same something like this..
And his tragedy was him evolving into a monster

As expected from Shirō Sagisu, the creator of this piece, and also the creator of a majority of Bleach, Berserk and neon genesis Evangelion osts. What an amazing composer
Something cool is that he usually uses a lot of English like in this piece in his music.

Interviews with the monsters:
Gojira (Japanese): "Have I worked with Shin? Well... no, not really. I've talked with him, but he never seemed to be comfortable around crowds. He always looked sad, but always came to parties. And you know Mosura, she doesn't like bad vibes so she tried to cheer him up one time. He just stared needles through her. He kind of freaks us out a bit, but I guess knowing what we know now it makes sense."
Godzilla (American): "Everyone knows Shin, I do too. Just... hey Shin, if you're hearing this, we're here for you man, you're a monster like us too."
Ghidorah
Ichi: "Guys? You ever talk to Shin?"
Ni: "Only when you have."
San (Kevin): "He's weird, I kind of like him though."
Mosura: "He's odd... that's about all I can say about him.
I want to voice this.

@@Mari-lm2sp There is no grounds to prove that atomic breath was developed at kamata-kun this godzilla adapts to his weaknesses the atomic breath development of which was to counteract the distance he had from his threats. A good example of pain from rapid mutation is the classic resident evil 2 berkin. Rapid mutation is pain and suffering, you could actually draw comparisons. Berkin self mutated to survive but became a unstoppable monstrosity that was in constant pain, as a human you can draw from that with any animal say even a lizard or reptile, having a similar experience would give immense pain, being turned into something unrecognizable monstrous and ghastly

I like the fact that, without the lyrics, the music is almost incomprehensible. Really shows that shin Godzilla tries to talk, to make everyone understand...
*but no one will truly know...*
"a shaft of light is all i need to cease the darkness killing me"..... Shin's breath, his shaft of light, was created to defend himself from the dark stealth bombers. what a sad creature
Body took mind's pleas literally...
having become a nuclear electrician, i have gained a greater respect for shin . the strange level of accuaracy to his representation of fukishima and the disasters that led up to it melt down of three reactors along with how their government failed to respond, its an amazing representation.
The fact that in every single form it's eye remains one of pain and suffering makes this version of Gojira much more horrifying than any titan in "Monsterverse".
To be honest, MonsterVerse and Shin Godzilla have a very different theme from one another
They are completely different interpretations with completely different themes. They cannot be compared
It's not Particularly difficult to be more Terrifying than MV seeing as MV is effectively the Diablo 3(aesthetically) of the Godzilla continuities.
@@darkshat3077
Ikr. Legendary Goji, being of an Americanized context, represents Nuclear power and Weaponry as a sword that is to only be drawn during the direst of moments, the Lesser Evil whereas Shin, in a vein similar to his past Japanese incarnations in that they represents the fear amd the tragedy born from such a power as well as nature's mournful tantrum.
Then there is Showa. You can sum up post Godzilla vs Ghidorah as "Hehe, nuclear power is based."
@@RedTyrant alright you can say the monsterverse movies have flaws. But saying they are STRICTLY cash grabs is just retarded

Like... Humanity's sh*t, but not everyone's the same.
Others might've hurt you, but that doesn’t mean everyone will.
This iteration of Godzilla is horrifying and sad. This Godzilla desperately needs his own Mothra.
Knowing how this timeline's Godzilla ended up and seeing what King Ghidorah would've looked like in a potential sequel, I have to wonder how well Mothra would fare...
and knowing who was directing this, the ghidorah and mothra are going to look harrowing
Concept art of Shin Ghidorah actually exists that shows him looking outright demonic.
@@ElFreakinCid I looked up Shin Ghidorah, last time I saw anything like that was in a nightmare I had as a child.

And Shin Godzilla can only be killed if all his cells are destroyed.

Not because he is evil…
Because you want to end his misery.
"Monsters are tragic beings; they are born too tall, too strong, too heavy, they are not evil by choice. That is their tragedy." - Ishiro Handa
I never felt so bad for a fictional character than Shin Godzilla. He was a rational being desperately searching for help, trying to understand human beings and slowly becoming one as time passes and nobody helps him, rather kill him
He wants to die tho so...

@@anenemystand5582 welp he doesnt have a peaceful sleep or sleeping probably his still in pain even being frozen
Yknow there’s so much symbolism in this, but my favourite part is the higher pitch represents the mind of Shin, it wants to die, all of its existence is pain, but the lower pitch is Shins body, it’s always trying to survive, as long as it still breaths, as long as it’s heart still beats, Shin’s body wants to live.
I think thos is one of the best interpretations of this song to be honest. Makes the most sense and is still tragic as all get out.
