Apart from these 3 women, stan culture has really gotten out of hand. Awards are supposed to be based off the quality of performance, not popularity. Why are we assuming the performances are Oscar quality without having watched the movies?
It’s because they tie their identity to living through their favorite celebrity, feeling personally responsible for their success. Stans have to believe their fave can do no wrong, because any flaw feels like a reflection of themselves. A lot of them seem to think that the more they stan (like assuming their fave is going to win without seeing the movie) directly correlates to their fave’s success.

It's not that she's a bad actress or singer; I feel like she did not add something new to the character, and this often happens in Broadway adaptations, as if the actors themselves want to re-create the magic exactly how it was with the original cast, that's just an impossible. Ariana is a great performer and maybe I'll be proven wrong when the movie comes out.
Which is why a lot of people are rooting for her. I wasn't very happy when she was cast as Harley Quinn but after seeing the trailer, could see exactly why they cast her, just perfect.

According to Wikipedia, while Lady Gaga did study method acting at the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute for ten years, for college she studied music at Collaborative Arts Project 21, which Wikipedia says is "a music school at New York University (NYU)'s Tisch School of the Arts." Either way, she has studied acting, so she's not another pop star who decided one day to try acting.

I am bias to Wicked but if it’s gonna be up for any awards - it’ll be for costumes, sets, hair & make up, all of the production design stuff. It’s upsetting that Part 1 is getting some toxic reaction when it’s very tame compared to Part 2.

Oscar head here, I’d say that Selena Gomez is definitely the most likely out of these three to get nominated. Wicked is much more of a blockbuster and Cynthia Erivo is the one with the big showy performance if any acting nominations happen. Her being campaigned in lead also makes way more sense. That’s just how the Oscars are. Joker 2’s reviews out of Venice are SUPER divisive and it despite how well the original Joker did at the awards, the second one does not seem to have the passionate fanbase the original did. Gaga can definitely act but this movie is not going to be the vehicle to get her another acting nomination. Selena, however, is in a movie that many including myself are predicting for best picture and has gotten good reviews, and even though that best actress prize was for the ensemble of women in the film (Karla Sophia Gascon, Zoe Saldana, etc.), her performance has been praised and it’s definitely possible that she could come along with those other two, although I’d say they’re more likely (lead for Gascon and supporting for Saldana). She’s also 100% supporting btw. Just wanted to chime in with a perspective from that predictions world.
Definitely have to agree here, as a huge fan of GaGa and a fan of Ariana. Joker 2 is not doing well currently-people aren't fans of the music, are complaining about the lack of presence she has in the film, and that the story is just... lacking. Taking Wicked into consideration, I genuinely think the only reason her fans think she'll get the nom is because they're fans of her, not because they think she's going to be deserving of it. From the trailers, she gives the vibe of acting like Kristin Chenoweth, which if that's what she was going for isn't exactly a great way to infuse life into the character. Aside from the fact that yes, Glinda is a supporting character, I'm wondering if Ariana's performance is going to be good or not. My memories of her acting are her Nickelodeon days, and performances from 10+ years ago are certainly not the best thing to go on. That being said, I still feel of the two, Cynthia would be the more likely to be nominated because there's just.... more growth to Elphaba. As far as Selena goes, I feel like with her recent success with Only Murders in the Building I am getting the sense she has the best chance. Girl even got an Emmy nom for it, and from watching her act in earlier stuff she was fun to watch. It also says something that her win at Cannes wasn't for an ensemble award, it was Best Actress and they had enough difficulty deciding who was most deserving that she, Karla Sophia Gascon, and Zoe Saldana all received it. That's no small feat
She DID win. The Best Actress Award was shared with 3 other actresses in the movie, which is rare. Acting awards at Cannes always go to one recipient, which likely means that the 4 actresses left a very strong impression. Reception to Joker 2 is much more mixed than the first one. Plus critics are saying Gaga's character takes a backseat to Joaquin Phoenix. I don't think a nomination is likely, and certainly there is no chance of a win. Wicked will struggle to get any acting nominations because of its commercial appeal. But if it does, it will be for Wicked Part 2. Selena Gomez has a good chance of being nominated for supporting actress. And I don't think its out of the realm of possibility that she could win, but there will be 2-3 other nominees that might outshine her so we'll have to wait and see
Wicked Part 2 could do pretty well against a lot of the other big 2025 films because there’s no way they’ve give Superman or Fantastic Four or Jurassic World Relaunch awards for acting

I know I'm the only one upset that Amanda Seyfried didn't get the role of Glinda. I don't think a lot of people know but she was the runner up to Ariana Grande and she does a very candid interview somewhere she talks about how she would finish shooting a scene for the drop out and then run to the Glinda audition and it was incredibly difficult because of how polar opposite the two roles are. She was actively potray stoic fraudster Holmes, then trying to turn it off and audition for Glinda. She would've been so good.
I think Stan culture operates on this idea that whoever you support is an underdog no matter how famous or successful they are/have become. Like if none of these women get nominated they will be fine it’s probably not going to impact their careers. I do think it’s interesting all three of these movies are musicals/musical elements. Musicals have an interesting history at the Oscars so it may help for an awards campaign for Gaga and Grande than a traditional blockbuster but it’s not a lock.
It probably should be mentioned that all 4 lead actresses in Emilia Perez won a joint Best Actress award at Cannes and Selena has not individually won anything for that role

Yeah Selena’s chances are highest at the moment. Most likely not going to win but def a nomination. She chose a script and movie that will be taken seriously by awards committees , Gaga and Ariana lowkey went with roles that align with their images as artists, regardless of the movie / director / script which is gonna lessen their chances. And I say this a major Ariana and Gaga fan (seen both live) Selena just did it right
I think the fairest comparison for Wicked in awards convos is The Color Purple. It had huge buzz and a more grounded story than Wicked, but a similar style of production design, and got only one nom for Danielle Brooks.

No, I think you're spot on (I say as someone who likewise is no longer a target demographic) but I've definitely seen this behaviour before, back in the early 2010's it was very prevalent across tumblr, exactly as you say. People who maybe were feeling isolated or marginalized, found an actor/singer/etc that they 'saw themselves' in (which is fantastic) and then become obsessed, and in turn twist the surrounding circumstances to better serve the idolatry of these singers/actors etc It's just parasocial relationships and projection all over again really. People getting their self worth through the praise/acclaim of someone they project themselves onto.

2023 was the best year in cinema. Movies like Barbie Oppenheimer, Poor Things, and Flower of the Killer Moon marked their success in cinema. Now, what we are getting is movies like Challengers and Wicked for the Academy Awards.🙄

Yeah, it surpasses both Lady Gaga and Ariana by a long shot. Although, as someone who has already seen Emilia Perez, I think "La Bête" would be much better for France's international features. The actresses did very well, so it would be deserved if they won, but god, the script is abysmal on many levels. Personally, I'm more concerned with Ari winning a Grammy than an Oscar. I'm sure Ariana doesn't really care about winning an Oscar either, concerning how she literally devoted all her efforts and time in efforts into Wicked, all because of how much she loves and adores the musical. To have the honor of acting in a movie adaptation of your favorite musical is something, but for it to be a character you have cherished for so long (since childhood) is like a return to your child self. I think awards are the last thing she cares about.
I used to be part of the online stan world (I know, I’m not proud of it). All of this is 100% true. When I first started participating in online stan discussion in the early 2010’s, it was not remotely cool to say that you liked these pop stars in public. Yeah they might’ve had hits and topped the charts, but that didn’t matter. Pop music was widely thought of as tacky bullshit, so you were supposed to rag on the genre at every given opportunity even if you enjoyed it. Now that it’s a lot more acceptable to openly enjoy pop music, stans wanna feel vindicated that their faves actually *are* as talented and amazing as they’ve always said they are, and movies are a great way to prove that to a wide audience who otherwise would’ve never given their favorite pop stars a chance. This will sound weird, but what I realized a lot of the stans really want is validation from straight men. Since that demographic was and is the loudest group of people to openly shit on pop music, having a pop star shine in an Oscar-award winning movie is the stans’ victory lap where the people who once (or still do) bad-mouthed their favorite artists now will eat their words or even start giving them praise. It’s really stupid and shallow, but as somebody who was part of that community for way longer than I’d like to admit, it’s easy to get swept up into that shallow mentality. It’s the queer equivalent of your favorite sports team winning the Super Bowl

I think one thing we all need to keep in mind (those of us who are terminally online) is that I would wager a LARGE proportion of the people behaving this way, are literally children. They're under 21 years old, and behaving "appropriately" - at least for their age. We unfortunately have no way to know who is and isn't a child, and we have come to blindly assume that the person we're talking to is a fully grown, mature adult, but I don't think that's actually true in most cases. To be clear, I don't mean this in a denigratory way, just that I have nothing in common with a highschooler, and that's a completely normal, natural thing. It would be weirder, if I went up to a group of highschoolers, and told them to stop acting like teenagers and to act more like mature adults...

Tbh Ariana Grande as Glinda doesn’t seem like it will win anything just based on what we’ve been shown in the trailers. I still feel that Dove Cameron should have been cast as Glinda because she fits the role better. Regardless, if Ariana doesn’t win I wouldn’t regard it as an upset yet because the film hasn’t been released yet. They all make a lot of money and have been doing amazing without winning awards so it’s just a petty thing fans focus on because they want to champion the people they like.

Selena Gomez is predominately an actress. Lady Gaga is predominately a musician. Ariana Grande is predominately a singer. That's why they have all received accolades for their work in the area they're strongest in but not in adjacent media categories.
Unless Joker 2 can recapture lightning in a bottle, Joker was basically lightning in a bottle, I don't think it's going to the Oscars. For Wicked to not get the nominations it has to BOMB hard! The studio already has way too much money behind it.

Those ppl could care less of stan’s feelings and what fans hope their fav celebrity gets nominated for. Awards are about who is popular and hot within the movie/ tv industry and their narrative. An actor’s narrative is very important to secure a nom which involves many factors. Movies premiere at film circuits to get buzz and to get a studio with money to help advertise the film and campaign for awards. If the actor’s narrative is compelling along with the movie, high chances are they will get nominated. Most of the time, awards are not about who’s the best but who deserves it more, should’ve gotten one, or who the industry is trying to push. Lady Gaga’s narrative. She used her musician turned actor stint already and she fumbled with HOG. Joker 2 isn’t getting good buzz for plot and performances. However she was nominated b4 so chances are very slim. She’s starting to have respect in tv space specifically on Hulu which has lots of Emmys recognition. And of course theirs the personal life stuff to urge voters to care about them.
Stan culture has ruined any fun in award shows with their weird entitlement. The Oscars are particularly annoying because you usually get an influx of people who don’t watch most of the films complaining about why the one film they did watch-usually because it’s a a popular franchise, brand, or their their favorite non-actor is in it, deserves every single award. I member when this discourse took over the music industry, but since it caved into their demands, they now view prestigious acting awards as the new way to one-up each other since they’re harder to attain. But the only reason they’re harder to attain is they bullied the music industry into giving their faves awards for lifting a finger.
Honestly the idea that Ariana or Cynthia will even get noms is so sweet; the Oscars have shown to have a heavy bias against action/fantasy/sci-fi films when it comes to acting noms, (though obvious exceptions exist). I wish less "grounded" films got acting noms if the acting was that good.
i think wicked is going to be a new classic film, i think that is the musical performances will be amazing and the MUSIC will be award contenders. wicked is going to touch more on the aspects of the book which are more serious and important, like aspects of racism and animal cruelty
It’s been really funny as a legit film/Oscars fan to see less in-the-know people have this conversation. Gaga has the biggest shot to get in but reactions about her not being in it as much as we thought probably means she at least won’t win. Selena’s got great reviews for Emilia Perez but out of her, Zoe Saldana, and Karla Sofia Gascon, I’ve heard she’s the least standout-ish (the Cannes prize was for all the actresses in the cast, not Selena specifically) Ariana is almost surely not happening 😅 And I say this as a fan of all of these ladies, not as a hater in the slightest!
Also with Selena’s Cannes award, and I’m not trying to diminish it, but it’s never been an indication someone will be nominated for an Oscar. If you look up the past best actress winners from the last 10 years you’ll see none of them got a nom
I hate to bring it up but CRAZY Ariana stans will strive for the Oscar nomination due to everything that's happened with wicked with Ethan Slater and also her previously being on broadway as a teenager and starring in victorious they all feel like they need to prove to everyone yes my person I stan is better than everyone and she can do no wrong as is better than everyone, also getting an Oscar for this would somehow make up for the whole ethan Slater scandal
Ariana is not gonna get nominated. Selena and Gaga has a good chance but I can see Selena getting snubbed since Zoe, who plays a much bigger part in the film is also going supporting and voters will definitely prefer her over Selena. Gaga has the best chance but it depends on if the Academy likes the new Joker.
as we’ve seen by recent winners (Laura Dern and Jamie Lee Curtis for example) at one point they award an actress who should’ve most definitely won one in the past despite her performance not necessarily being the best this year cause “it’s about time they do”

Ariana Grande & Selena Gomez are great actresses I've seen them act since I was a kid. Selena Gomez was in Wizards Of Waverly Place, Spring Breakers, Only Murders In The Building & more. Ariana Grande played the role of Cat Valentine in both Victorious as well as Sam & Cat. She was also in Swindle the 2013 Nickelodeon movie when I was a kid as well as Don't Look Up in 2021. I said all of this to say that I love Ariana Grande as a vocalist & as an actress. Ariana can play the role of anyone. I also like Selena as a singer however I like her more as an actress. I can see anyone of them getting an Oscar nomination or win for their respective movies this year. As for Lady Gaga I love her music. I haven't seen her act before so this Joker 2 movie well be my first time watching her act. If she gets nominated & wins I'll be happy for her. I'll be happy for any of these women no matter the category whether it's Supporting or Lead. I'd also like to say that I love Joker 1 in 2019 & I think Joaquin Phoenix did great BUT IMPO (In My Personal Opinion) I don't think he's the best Joker. The best joker IMO (In My Opinion) is Heath Ledger. Heath Ledger did absolutely incredible as Joker in Batman Dark Knight. For those of u who haven't seen that movie I'd highly recommend it it's so good.

I think all three ladies will likely get GG noms (with Selena most poised to win), but no Oscar acting noms for Ari or Gaga. Selena will be nominated, but most critics have Danielle Deadwyler as this year's frontrunner for Best Supp Actress (deservedly so). Wicked will likely get tech, costume, and score (maybe) Oscar noms, Joker 2 will probably get a nod for cinematography, and Emilia Perez a nom for best int'l film with a smattering of other nominations. 😊
Apart from these 3 women, stan culture has really gotten out of hand. Awards are supposed to be based off the quality of performance, not popularity. Why are we assuming the performances are Oscar quality without having watched the movies?
Award ceremonies for the most part are, in fact, popularity contests. It’s not a new concept.
It’s because they tie their identity to living through their favorite celebrity, feeling personally responsible for their success. Stans have to believe their fave can do no wrong, because any flaw feels like a reflection of themselves. A lot of them seem to think that the more they stan (like assuming their fave is going to win without seeing the movie) directly correlates to their fave’s success.

It's not that she's a bad actress or singer; I feel like she did not add something new to the character, and this often happens in Broadway adaptations, as if the actors themselves want to re-create the magic exactly how it was with the original cast, that's just an impossible. Oscar head here, I’d say that Selena Gomez is definitely the most likely out of these three to get nominated. Wicked is much more of a blockbuster and Cynthia Erivo is the one with the big showy performance if any acting nominations happen. Her being campaigned in lead also makes way more sense. That’s just how the Oscars are. Joker 2’s reviews out of Venice are SUPER divisive and it despite how well the original Joker did at the awards, the second one does not seem to have the passionate fanbase the original did. Gaga can definitely act but this movie is not going to be the vehicle to get her another acting nomination. Selena, however, is in a movie that many including myself are predicting for best picture and has gotten good reviews, and even though that best actress prize was for the ensemble of women in the film (Karla Sophia Gascon, Zoe Saldana, etc.), her performance has been praised and it’s definitely possible that she could come along with those other two, although I’d say they’re more likely (lead for Gascon and supporting for Saldana). She’s also 100% supporting btw. Just wanted to chime in with a perspective from that predictions world.
Definitely have to agree here, as a huge fan of GaGa and a fan of Ariana. Joker 2 is not doing well currently-people aren't fans of the music, are complaining about the lack of presence she has in the film, and that the story is just... lacking. Taking Wicked into consideration, I genuinely think the only reason her fans think she'll get the nom is because they're fans of her, not because they think she's going to be deserving of it. From the trailers, she gives the vibe of acting like Kristin Chenoweth, which if that's what she was going for isn't exactly a great way to infuse life into the character. Aside from the fact that yes, Glinda is a supporting character, I'm wondering if Ariana's performance is going to be good or not. My memories of her acting are her Nickelodeon days, and performances from 10+ years ago are certainly not the best thing to go on. That being said, I still feel of the two, Cynthia would be the more likely to be nominated because there's just.... more growth to Elphaba. As far as Selena goes, I feel like with her recent success with Only Murders in the Building I am getting the sense she has the best chance. Girl even got an Emmy nom for it, and from watching her act in earlier stuff she was fun to watch. It also says something that her win at Cannes wasn't for an ensemble award, it was Best Actress and they had enough difficulty deciding who was most deserving that she, Karla Sophia Gascon, and Zoe Saldana all received it. Reception to Joker 2 is much more mixed than the first one. Plus critics are saying Gaga's character takes a backseat to Joaquin Phoenix. I don't think a nomination is likely, and certainly there is no chance of a win. Wicked will struggle to get any acting nominations because of its commercial appeal. But if it does, it will be for Wicked Part 2. Selena Gomez has a good chance of being nominated for supporting actress. And I don't think its out of the realm of possibility that she could win, but there will be 2-3 other nominees that might outshine her so we'll have to wait and see
Wicked Part 2 could do pretty well against a lot of the other big 2025 films because there’s no way they’ve give Superman or Fantastic Four or Jurassic World Relaunch awards for acting

I know I'm the only one upset that Amanda Seyfried didn't get the role of Glinda. I don't think a lot of people know but she was the runner up to Ariana Grande and she does a very candid interview somewhere she talks about how she would finish shooting a scene for the drop out and then run to the Glinda audition and it was incredibly difficult because of how polar opposite the two roles are. She was actively potray stoic fraudster Holmes, then trying to turn it off and audition for Glinda. She would've been so good.

I think Stan culture operates on this idea that whoever you support is an underdog no matter how famous or successful they are/have become. Like if none of these women get nominated they will be fine it’s probably not going to impact their careers.
I do think it’s interesting all three of these movies are musicals/musical elements. Musicals have an interesting history at the Oscars so it may help for an awards campaign for Gaga and Grande than a traditional blockbuster but it’s not a lock.
It probably should be mentioned that all 4 lead actresses in Emilia Perez won a joint Best Actress award at Cannes and Selena has not individually won anything for that role

No, I think you're spot on (I say as someone who likewise is no longer a target demographic) but I've definitely seen this behaviour before, back in the early 2010's it was very prevalent across tumblr, exactly as you say. People who maybe were feeling isolated or marginalized, found an actor/singer/etc that they 'saw themselves' in (which is fantastic) and then become obsessed, and in turn twist the surrounding circumstances to better serve the idolatry of these singers/actors etc

i am not a big fan of Selena Gomez, but she was the best thing about Spring Breakers 12 years ago, and is the popstar with the best shot at getting a nomination now. Gaga is out of the race, and Ari will try very hard to get in but i'm not sure that has a chance of happening. Selena's movie is a LOCK for a best picture nom.

Yeah, it surpasses both Lady Gaga and Ariana by a long shot. Although, as someone who has already seen Emilia Perez, I think "La Bête" would be much better for France's international features.

Personally, I'm more concerned with Ari winning a Grammy than an Oscar. I'm sure Ariana doesn't really care about winning an Oscar either, concerning how she literally devoted all her efforts and time in efforts into Wicked, all because of how much she loves and adores the musical. To have the honor of acting in a movie adaptation of your favorite musical is something, but for it to be a character you have cherished for so long (since childhood) is like a return to your child self. I think awards are the last thing she cares about.

I used to be part of the online stan world (I know, I’m not proud of it). All of this is 100% true. When I first started participating in online stan discussion in the early 2010’s, it was not remotely cool to say that you liked these pop stars in public. Yeah they might’ve had hits and topped the charts, but that didn’t matter. Pop music was widely thought of as tacky bullshit, so you were supposed to rag on the genre at every given opportunity even if you enjoyed it. Now that it’s a lot more acceptable to openly enjoy pop music, stans wanna feel vindicated that their faves actually *are* as talented and amazing as they’ve always said they are, and movies are a great way to prove that to a wide audience who otherwise would’ve never given their favorite pop stars a chance.
This will sound weird, but what I realized a lot of the stans really want is validation from straight men. Since that demographic was and is the loudest group of people to openly shit on pop music, having a pop star shine in an Oscar-award winning movie is the stans’ victory lap where the people who once (or still do) bad-mouthed their favorite artists now will eat their words or even start giving them praise. It’s really stupid and shallow, but as somebody who was part of that community for way longer than I’d like to admit, it’s easy to get swept up into that shallow mentality. It’s the queer equivalent of your favorite sports team winning the Super Bowl
And now it’s gone nuclear woke. It’s sickening. I’m sick of the people I formerly called friends who do nothing but talk in platitudes and woke ideologies. How is any normal person supposed to like their discourse? And not only that they force you and then of course we retaliate.

i'm planning on going to watch them all in cinemas but i'm particularly exicted for Emilia Pérez from the reviews I've seen it is an interesting film i want to be surprised, i'm already familiar with The Joker and Wicked so I'm very excited for something out there, something different. Emilia Pérez seems to be sweeping at Film Festivals too. Still, can't wait to watch the 3 of them, don't care about any stan wars. Lady Gaga, Ariana Grande and Selena Gomez are all very talented.

Yet another banger take Kayla. I think one thing we all need to keep in mind (those of us who are terminally online) is that I would wager a LARGE proportion of the people behaving this way, are literally children. They're under 21 years old, and behaving "appropriately" - at least for their age. We unfortunately have no way to know who is and isn't a child, and we have come to blindly assume that the person we're talking to is a fully grown, mature adult, but I don't think that's actually true in most cases.
To be clear, I don't mean this in a denigratory way, just that I have nothing in common with a highschooler, and that's a completely normal, natural thing. It would be weirder, if I went up to a group of highschoolers, and told them to stop acting like teenagers and to act more like mature adults...

Tbh Ariana Grande as Glinda doesn’t seem like it will win anything just based on what we’ve been shown in the trailers. I still feel that Dove Cameron should have been cast as Glinda because she fits the role better. Regardless, if Ariana doesn’t win I wouldn’t regard it as an upset yet because the film hasn’t been released yet. They all make a lot of money and have been doing amazing without winning awards so it’s just a petty thing fans focus on because they want to champion the people they like.

Unless Joker 2 can recapture lightning in a bottle, Joker was basically lightning in a bottle, I don't think it's going to the Oscars. For Wicked to not get the nominations it has to BOMB hard! The studio already has way too much money behind it.

A lot of stans don’t know how the Oscars works. Whoever gets nominated is an in industry and colleague thing which includes actors, casting agents, directors, and producers. Those ppl could care less of stan’s feelings and what fans hope their fav celebrity gets nominated for. It’s about creating the next star, who the industry thinks represents “acting” & the Oscars, or who needs it the most. Awards are about who is popular and hot within the movie/ tv industry and their narrative. An actor’s narrative is very important to secure a nom which involves many factors. Movies premiere at film circuits to get buzz and to get a studio with money to help advertise the film and campaign for awards. If the actor’s narrative is compelling along with the movie, high chances are they will get nominated. Most of the time, awards are not about who’s the best but who deserves it more, should’ve gotten one, or who the industry is trying to push.
Lady Gaga’s narrative. She used her musician turned actor stint already and she fumbled with HOG. Joker 2 isn’t getting good buzz for plot and performances. However she was nominated b4 so chances are very slim.
Ariana Grande has zero chances. Sorry but this is her first major acting gig and it’s for a popcorn blockbuster movie. Those types of movie rarely get acting nods no matter the leads. She is also mostly known for her music and was criticized for her acting when she was on Nick. She may be a theater kid but she has no footing in movie/ tv world.
Selena Gomez has more of a chance but her team will have to campaign hard. Her film, Emilia Pérez, is getting a lot of positive buzz for acting and plot; specifically for Gomez and her co star Karla Sofía Gascón. She pretty much left music behind and focused on acting. She’s in critically acclaimed Only Murders, acting alongside Hollywood legends and holding her own alongside them. She’s starting to have respect in tv space specifically on Hulu which has lots of Emmys recognition.
And of course theirs the personal life stuff to urge voters to care about them.

Stan culture has ruined any fun in award shows with their weird entitlement. The Oscars are particularly annoying because you usually get an influx of people who don’t watch most of the films complaining about why the one film they did watch-usually because it’s a a popular franchise, brand, or their their favorite non-actor is in it, deserves every single award.
I member when this discourse took over the music industry, but since it caved into their demands, they now view prestigious acting awards as the new way to one-up each other since they’re harder to attain. But the only reason they’re harder to attain is they bullied the music industry into giving their faves awards for lifting a finger.

Honestly the idea that Ariana or Cynthia will even get noms is so sweet; the Oscars have shown to have a heavy bias against action/fantasy/sci-fi films when it comes to acting noms, (though obvious exceptions exist). I wish less "grounded" films got acting noms if the acting was that good.

i think wicked is going to be a new classic film, i think that is the musical performances will be amazing and the MUSIC will be award contenders. wicked is going to touch more on the aspects of the book which are more serious and important, like aspects of racism and animal cruelty
It’s been really funny as a legit film/Oscars fan to see less in-the-know people have this conversation. Gaga has the biggest shot to get in but reactions about her not being in it as much as we thought probably means she at least won’t win. Selena’s got great reviews for Emilia Perez but out of her, Zoe Saldana, and Karla Sofia Gascon, I’ve heard she’s the least standout-ish (the Cannes prize was for all the actresses in the cast, not Selena specifically)

Ariana is not gonna get nominated. Selena and Gaga has a good chance but I can see Selena getting snubbed since Zoe, who plays a much bigger part in the film is also going supporting and voters will definitely prefer her over Selena. Ariana Grande & Selena Gomez are great actresses I've seen them act since I was a kid. Selena Gomez was in Wizards Of Waverly Place, Spring Breakers, Only Murders In The Building & more. Ariana Grande played the role of Cat Valentine in both Victorious as well as Sam & Cat. She was also in Swindle the 2013 Nickelodeon movie when I was a kid as well as Don't Look Up in 2021. I said all of this to say that I love Ariana Grande as a vocalist & as an actress. Ariana can play the role of anyone. I also like Selena as a singer however I like her more as an actress. I can see anyone of them getting an Oscar nomination or win for their respective movies this year. As for Lady Gaga I love her music. I haven't seen her act before so this Joker 2 movie well be my first time watching her act. If she gets nominated & wins I'll be happy for her. I'll be happy for any of these women no matter the category whether it's Supporting or Lead. I'd also like to say that I love Joker 1 in 2019 & I think Joaquin Phoenix did great BUT IMPO (In My Personal Opinion) I don't think he's the best Joker. The best joker IMO (In My Opinion) is Heath Ledger. Heath Ledger did absolutely incredible as Joker in Batman Dark Knight. For those of u who haven't seen that movie I'd highly recommend it it's so good.

I think all three ladies will likely get GG noms (with Selena most poised to win), but no Oscar acting noms for Ari or Gaga. Selena will be nominated, but most critics have Danielle Deadwyler as this year's frontrunner for Best Supp Actress (deservedly so). Wicked will likely get tech, costume, and score (maybe) Oscar noms, Joker 2 will probably get a nod for cinematography, and Emilia Perez a nom for best int'l film with a smattering of other nominations. 😊
