Doffy wasn’t criticising Luffy’s fruit (especially since he made multiple speeches about not underestimating the Straw Hats earlier in the arc). He just recognised the common sense disadvantages of the form. It’s not immediately obvious that Luffy can hit harder with the bounciness or that being a bigger target doesn’t matter due to his armour still being rubber. Common sense would say that Luffy would bounce off the kick and be flung away from the combat zone, which would give Doffy space to do whatever he wanted (shrink the birdcage, go after civilians, recover, etc), but Doffy learns the kick is absorbed and Luffy stays in his place.
Still one of my favorite punches in One Piece, the absolute weight Luffy throws behind this punch is wild. Even with the “older” animation in Dressrosa you can just feel that impact. Doffy sure did 😂

It’s refreshing to see a villain get dominated by a new form only to themselves get a main character “I won’t just die!” Moment and keep pushing when they shouldn’t. People complain about doffy surviving gamma knife but are fine with luffy tanking 3 rokuogan to his internal organs and still being able to beat up the guy who was dominating the fight
This is one of Luffy’s best fights. Doflamingo judge the book by its cover and paid the price. First fighting a skinny wacky kid then a wild bouncy chubby kid that’s unstoppable One Piece is great.

If you remember in pre-timeskip when people used Haki there was no effect. Post time-skip Oda wanted to make it clearer when Haki was and wasn't being used, that's all. So yeah, Mingo doesn't see the cool black marks. The literally just looks like a rubber ball to him.

So i looked this part up and found out its like 700 eps in and that same night i start watching the anime. Totally worth it, i love this show so much. Ive been caught up and the new eps look amazing

Doffy’s problem was he underestimated just how much Law & Luffy had been training over the 2yr timeskip. While Doffy was busy being king and running the underworld, Luffy & Law had pretty much perfected their skills. Pre timeskip Doflamingo would’ve washed Luffy low diff. Doffy also relied on his “Black Knight” and a manipulated Bellamy to do most of the work, but when Luffy finally got a chance to 1v1 him the differences in strength were obvious. Doffy will always be my favorite OP villain tho

As much as the anime version tries to portray it as some kinda equal fight. Gear 4 was too much for doflamingo. The power level gap between the two is too huge. Luffy was just messing around with doffy. His kong gun effortlessly crushes doffy in the manga.

All that hype he created about his conquerer's haki when he invaded punk hazard (By the way the editing and evil theme song they gave during that moment was soo cool) was nothing compared to luffy.

If I were Doflamingo, how I would defeat luffy gear 4 is to create a powerful, giant spear made of awakened strings coated with haki and keep him at bay from long range. One advantage doflamingo has over luffy is extreme range (his overheat for example) and u would use this giant spear made of extremely hard busho, to pierce and annihilate luffy.
Except Doflamingo attempted just that but in his god thread move. He had Luffy at bay far in the sky and with his 16 holy bullets AND his birdcage to pierce Luffy from both ends. Doflamingo wasn't shocked in the moment that Luffy's Kong Gun actually reached him, he was shocked that an awakened string man was defeated by a non awakened (on Gear 4) rubber man.
Easy for you to say, Luffy even in his base state is faster than doflamingo, Luffy have speed advantages, with gear 4, he's even more faster than doflamingo as you can see he's having really hard time to dodge or block luffy's attack when he's in gear 4

I know Doffy was already drenched by Trafalgar's attack but still fight with luffy was a purely one sided affair (Even that fishman hordy broke him a sweat). Doffy just looked like a fool in that whole battle along with his weird quirky comments. All that hype he created about his conquerer's haki when he invaded punk hazard (By the way the editing and evil theme song they gave during that moment was soo cool) was nothing compared to luffy.

If I were Doflamingo, how I would defeat luffy gear 4 is to create a powerful, giant spear made of awakened strings coated with haki and keep him at bay from long range. One advantage doflamingo has over luffy is extreme range (his overheat for example) and u would use this giant spear made of extremely hard busho, to pierce and annihilate luffy.
Except Doflamingo attempted just that but in his god thread move. He had Luffy at bay far in the sky and with his 16 holy bullets AND his birdcage to pierce Luffy from both ends. Doflamingo wasn't shocked in the moment that Luffy's Kong Gun actually reached him, he was shocked that an awakened string man was defeated by a non awakened (on Gear 4) rubber man.
Easy for you to say, Luffy even in his base state is faster than doflamingo, Luffy have speed advantages, with gear 4, he's even more faster than doflamingo as you can see he's having really hard time to dodge or block luffy's attack when he's in gear 4
