Holy moly man, you are freaking me out. I'm 47 and literally just ordered a 979b mostly to prove to myself it's possible to get for just under 100 bucks. So I'm looking at utube videos and I see my beloved grasshopper, my folks didn't just throw money at every whim their kids had. I had the grasshopper and a working battery for about 2-3 months before I had a radio/receiver/servos. That was a long couple of months and all so very beautiful, your video took me right back.
Hi Jeffrey! Glad this video both talked to your now-you and your kid-you 🙂 Yeah, RC’s has come along way now. But yes, the old non-buy-and-throw-away days where also good. I never experienced Tamiya as a kid in the 70/80’s but even the Nikko and Taiyo cars was amazing to me back then. I wished for a new one every Christmas 🙂 I hope you will have fun with the A959B now.
Brings back memories of my childhood in the 1980's. Although i never had one - my cars were the Tamiya Vanessa's Lunchbox and Tamiya Thundershot 4WD. Then i got into nitro - Mardave Stockmaster.
Great to hear it brought out good memories. Love the Thundershot too, and one day I will definitely be building a Lunch Box too. Gotta love these Tamiya classics.
Great video, Mikael - pretty much as expected, but fun to watch, nonetheless! Love the Grasshopper old school vibe - now let's see you do the swap properly and test the NiMh in the 959!!! ;-)
Slow means not bad. I search for a slow 1:10 buggy for my daughter. Ok I mostly searched for cheaper ones. Hard to find decent which are under 30kph. Now I have one from Reely (labled from ??) with 22kph and you can even dial it down... Perfect. WL Toys are all too fast for their size...

Yeah, my Hopper/Hornets with 540 motors feel pretty fast. One of them, The Rising Fighter, I’ve GPS measured to twice the speed of this stock Grasshopper 😀 Thanks for watching, my friend.
Thanks! Thought it would make it more interesting, with these two, testing the batteries. I like them both, but if I had to pick I would chose the GH too 😄
Me too. And I don't mind it slower. It looks way better and I tend to trim my cars so they don't go so fast anyway and just enjoy them. My 4wd Slash VXL is set to go no more than 20-25 MPH. That's plenty fast enough for me.
Nice, Edmond. Love my current Hornet too, and I would have been amazed if I had a Hornet back in the 1980s as a kid. Thanks a lot for the nice feedback, bro.
I don’t know how relevant it is but I have a 80s grasshopper2 with the 540 sport tuned motor, updated speed control, with a 6000 nimh. I’ve clocked it against cars and it will do between 25-30 mph. But I suggest getting street tired the sand tires spin all over
Sound like a very fast Hopper, Joe P! Yeah, these can go quite fast with different motors and gearing. Got a Rising Figher (Grasshopper II chassis with DT-01 gear box) with a 19T pinion, Sport Tuned Motor and ball bearings, and it did nearly 40 kph on a NiMH. Ohh, and by the way, on this channel everything 'Tamiya' is highly relevant :-)
He he, technically speaking, in terms of performance, it really belongs in a museum ;-) Luckily it's also such a cool 1980ies ride and a fun runner :-) Thanks for watching, Daryl.
Ahh, yes, that could be an interesting "part 2" :-) Good idea, thanks. It would actually be quite easy since I have a Hornet (basically a Grasshopper with a 540 motor) and an A959 standard (basically a A959-B with a 390 motor). If I ran the Hornet on 3S too and the A959 on 2S, maybe the roles would be reversed :-)
@@NordicRC I think not I got the 390 can n my Wltoy still will kick that car ass...The ESC much have the voltage step up.To create such power to the motor..I have a regular size 1/10 car.I brought a ESC from China...I put 21 volt on my 540 that shit will kick the Wltoy behind yes I burn the ESC out about two months later. But for 14 thing was tons of fun...
Well that was about what I expected from the Grasshopper if a little on the slow side, but the 959 OMG I think it's way too fast for it's size and my dodgy driving Mikael. But as Mark said it would be interesting if you could somehow shoehorn the NiMH into the 959 for a speed run.
He he, it would really be a funny sight. Maybe it would need a trailer behind it, carrying the battery ☺️ and yes, too uncontrollable for me and my skills too - but quite fun :-) Love the Grasshopper too, slow or fast, it’s just so much fun to run ☺️ Thanks for watching, Rob!
Yeah, even though the Grasshopper/Hornet model design is from 1984 the gears and diff are very durable. The Hornet comes with a 540 motor and a larger pinion, which can easily be installed on the Grasshopper too. The Hornet is actiually very fast on just the 27T brushed stock Mabuchi silver can motor, since it is a very light model (check out my hornets in my channel). So basically one can install any 380 or 540 brushless motor and any ESC and cell LiPo battery (that can fit in the battery compartment). I have an upgraded Rising Fighter (basically a ‘Hornet 3’) with a 19T pinion and a 540 Sport Tuned brushed motor and it goes nearly 40 kph on an old NiMH. So it could easily be nearly as fast as the WLToys, with let’s say a 4000-5000 KV motor and a 3S. Or faster. Don’t think I want a 1984 2WD to go that fast though, he he 😊
In the early 90's i took an old grasshopper i had, & slapped a radioshack i-rocZ body on it, man i lived that car, wasnt too much to do back then, MTV, nintendo, rc, dirtbikez, no internet, so fun was always homemade for the most part. I miss the lunchbox, hornet, grasshopper
Sounds like so much fun! Good memories. Yeah I know, the world and the life of kids was different back then. In the 70/80s as a kid we didnæt have much choices too. I think in the mid-80s my favorite things was my RCs and my Commodore 64. Not even MTV - though it existed at that time I think :-) Both the Hornet, Grasshopper and Lunch Box are all available as affordable re-releases now :-)
Yeah, I remember my 1200 mah NiCads from the 1980ies. I was quite astonished to see the 3600 mah fit in. The largest I’ve had it running with before was a 3000 mah as well. But this 3600 fits beautifully as well. Pretty good for the old Tamiyas.
Yeah, exactly, I got videos of that one as well. Just search for it in my channel. Comparisons with the A959-B. And more coming up, including GPS speed test comparisons of the A959 and the A959-B :-)
I think you’re right - I remember a speed run showing that. I think that the A959-B is geared exceptionally high, so it will be hard to beat it with a Silver Can. The silver can in the A959-B is timed somehow too I think.
I hate comeing with questions but a Retro buggy I was cleaning the 8AA battery house and one of the pos/neg Battery contacts fell out !After taking the hole thing apart I can find how to get it back in any place U recommend to figure out what to reattach it to and ideas how? I'm still looking for my First Yellow Wolf sticker buggy no luck yet. I Appreciate you
Uhh, I think it would be difficult for me to say anything with a buggy I do not know. Hope you get it sorted out. Best advice I can give for the next disassembly is to check first if manuals exists, and if not, take a picture (or better, a video) of each step/part that you disassemble during the process. That way you can go back to the pictures/videos when starting to reassemble if doubt arises. Another good tip is to keep screws together with the parts they match.
poor little old Grasshopper needed a 2840 size 5000kv motor dropped into it just to have a little more fair chance at a run (about double the RPM of a 390 motor, not TOO radical). edit: to be fair, should have been A-959A version with the 390 vs the 5000kv 'hopper.
Ahh, nothing can be done to make this fair really. The Grasshopper has this rigid stiff rear axle and front swing arms, so even though it get’s faster it will still perform as a Grasshopper ☺️ With a cheap larger pinion gear and 540 motor, just like a Hornet, it can easily get near 30 kph, which is plenty for this old chassis design 😄 Love them both, the A959-B and Grasshopper. 30 years apart ☺️
yup, and we know A959B is a way overpowered 4WD paperclip to begin with. way back when had a hornet with 34 degree 27 turn Dynamite motor in it, they get plain squirrely even with all the little suspension softening mods it'd gotten.
model nutty Yeah, I got a Rising Fighter (Grasshopper II/DT-01) with a 19T pinion and a 540 Sport Tuned motor and a lot of upgrades. Does almost 40 kph on the street but it’s still quite quirky off road with the Grasshopper/Hornet style suspension 😄
been looking at those Rising Fighter, little longer and wider but basically still Hornet category (darnit). not that Hornet entry level stock class racing wasn't fun in early 80's on short groomed dirt tracks, it was great! no suspension no diff stock BoLink Digger that pop wheelies every time you sneezed was good racing fun too, you had to quick throttle wiggle to keep the foam tires on dirt in a drift to not spin out or wheelie flip. cars losing it and crashing all over the track, rofl! RJ Speed (used to be BoLink) still making them I think. cool thing about them was equal cars racing, all ridiculously tough (except for the open spur gear).
Hey there ! By misstake I thought that you are german 😂 i cant find it at Amazon or eBay - Maybe because i live in germany 🤔 Thank you for your answer sofar
Ahh, no, Danish/Finnish. Nordic ☺️ My German is very rusty sadly, even though my favorite band and favorite Tamiya dealer are German ☺️ Yeah, sorry, I couldn’t help 🤔 Maybe search for them internationally, on Amazon.com or eBay.com
So old school and cool and cute 😅 Got another Grasshopper with the 540 motor and larger pinion. Much faster, but there’s just something oddly satisfying with running a complete stock hopper with the 380 motor. Think it reminds me of the speed and runs I had with my Nikko Turbo Panther back in the 1980s 🙂 Unbeatable experience.
Hi Panos! It's a 1984 design - so it has no double wishbone suspension but instead swing arms that can provide both positive of negative camber. Love it :-) Thanks for watching, Panos.
Hi bro! The A959-B is supplied with a 1500 mah where the A959 is supplied with a slightly smaller 1100 mah. But in my experience even with the smaller battery the A959 has a longer run time, probably because of the motor.
The WLToys? This day? I can’t remember. But had it out for several other speed runs (also without flipping). Readings are always somewhere between 57-58 kph. Pretty much the exact same readings as all the other reliable RC channels I’ve seen. One or two hit 60 kph or so. So yeah, a 959-B will go approx. 55-60 kph out of the box.
On their MSC’s? Not sure. Never tried to go very low with those. But you can always check the temperature of the resistor. If it starts burning it’s probably too low turns 🙃😉
Think it’s fun to have this one stock (not a tired old motor, it’s the re-release version). And got plenty of other Hoppers and Hornets with 540 motors. Check out my channel to see them.
I did if you watched the video 😉 Well, it makes no big difference. Watch the new video (A959-A vs The Hornet) where I reverse the roles and give it a 3S. Being unfair and comparing Apples to Orange is the goal in these videos 🙂
Thanks, David. Yeah, first it was a NiMH. In the end of the video I switch to a LiPo. Most 6S 7.2v NiMHs charge to 9-10v, it drops fast though, but if it is a newly charged NiMH it can keep the voltage well above 8v until one arrives to the run location so usually in speed tests (with a fresh NiMH 7.2v) there is near to no difference in the first minute or so between the NiMH and a 2S 7.4v LiPo (charged to 8.4v). The LiPo provides more punch/acceleration though, and after the first minute or so the NiMH voltage starts to drop siginificantly below the LiPo.
Yeah, the gears are very durable. Even just a 540 can and larger pinion (like the Hornets) will make it fly. Got a Rising Fighter (essentially a Grasshopper II/Super Hornet/DT-01 Hopper) with a 19T pinion and just a Sport Tuned motor and it does twice the speed of this (almost stock) Grasshopper.
i have an orignal grasshopper over the years have upgraded it to the max i run a 3s 2200 mah battery brushless 540 motor and esc faster servo oil shocks front and back and i have an aluninum front bumper with spots and the other spots work to it goes like a rocket people laugh when i turn up and get it out to have fun with they soon shut up when i leave them behind i do have a race buggy but grasshopper is way more fun
Fun factor? I have many RC's... too many. My losi mini8 is fast and probably way better than that thing in this video, the losi is fun. But I really seem to spend more time with my Grasshopper or Hornet.. my Lunchbox is slow too but all seem to get more play time, just me.
I bet the grass hopper would give "you" better lap times. Go fast is only good if it's managed. I had a stock lunch box that was number 1 for an insanely long time in our town🤣 it was slow as.... well slow, but completing a lap goes further than chasing your upside down whip. 🤷
Most of the times, yes, but there really is no big difference with a 2S LiPo 7.4v and a 6S NiMH 7.2v, in the first minute of running with fully charged batteries in speed runs like this. I've measured the difference to only a couple of kph (top speed after a few minute of running is another story, as the NiHH's lose voltage level so much quicker than a LiPO). A fully charged 7.4v LiPo will hit 8.4v, a fully charged 7.2v NiMH will hit 9-10v (but start to lose voltage level even when sitting idle).
Yup, just as slow as I remember... I used to beat my neighbor who was running a 4wd Yokomo because he couldn't keep it on the track. Been beating up on buddies for years thanks to all the hours I put in running that car. But Jebus it was slow... and bouncy... and mechanical speed control sucks... and winter is sooo hard on plastic chassis... and epoxy used to be expensive... sigh
Good idea. But this was just a bit of fun. I have another thing planned though, with a WLToys buggy and a Tamiya buggy, that will reverse the roles though, compared to this video :-)
and what the hell your a959b takes off flips over and crashes and nothing happens my beats against a tire while making a piece of reverse gear and bending a screw grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr that anger :-D however spectacular video as always you are a great :-D
You are great Simon ☺️ Thanks for the support. Uhh, yeah, flipped and jumped all of mine many times but no breakages whatsoever. And I’ve had about 7 of them. Too bad about yours. Hope it will be an easy fix.
Tamiya as slow as ever i grew up with the famous speed promises always disappointed. Heavy gearboxes don't seem to ever move on I still have an original 80's super clodbuster. And considering the other available rd products you can buy i. Don't know how tamiya are still doing this. You can get much more for half the price. And 1:18 really are so fast so many parts available Buggies. Crawlers . Fully upgradable . To be honest ud have to be mad to buy old style tamia .... Cool though cheers. Takes us all back.lol
Well, I consider us Tamiya enthusiasts a bit mad, so I guess that's why we get them - madness :-) I still think there is a certain aura surrounding the brand, their chassis and their designs. Tamiya is Tamiya. Just can't get enough of them :-)
It got one, but no 1984 model really "needs" a LiPo, in my opinion. They should be enjoyed for what they are :-) Modern basher-RC's on the contrary need a LiPo :-)
Yeah, never said it couldn't be fun, just that it really don't need it :-) Got both a 1200mah Ni-Cad from 1986 and a 3S LiPo ready for a Grasshopper or/and Hornet Run when the weather and times permits it :-)
Yeah, got some TSM and also a new DumboRC receiver with Gyro. Plan was to eventually install it on my upgraded A959. Not sure though I will continue the video series with that one, but will try the DumboRC gyro on another one I have trouble with going straight 😀
All good but sometimes you have to look outside the window to see what's outside. The fun and big jumps you can get from half the price fully alloy. Carbon fiber. 50mph plus. Surely adrenaline and common sense should kick in and see it's a trap of thinking your going to have awesome fun but then u see the next guy ripping across the park for less than £100 At twice the speed With batteries last twice as long U try walking down the park with 9 old 7.4 batteries Seriously Nooooooooooo lol I remember those days took well Will good fun though But times move on for good reason... I feel it real...Cheers
Cheers, bro. Well, the old 1980s (re-release or vintage) buggies have a certain charm of their own. But I like them all. 1984 and 2014. It's the diversity of my car park that makes it fun :-)
Hi Joe. Yea, that was the general idea of the run. Not being far. Motor isn’t the only thing. It’s also a 1984 design versus a 2014. I got another one with two other cars (A959 versus The Hornet) too, where the motor size is reverse. Not fair either.
I think both can be fun. Got a lot of Tamiya, vintage and re-releases, which I generally keep more-or-less stock but I also got new more modern stuff and modern set-ups. Just two different aspects of the hobby. That's what I like about the hobby, the diversity :-)

Nice Cars y liked the Cars the litle fastest is my favorite car and liked the tecnólogy used in the car good video.😎👍
Thanks Marcos! The little one sure is a fun runner :-) A bit uncontrollable but still fun.
Still prefer the hopper👌
I like them both. For very different reasons. But if I had to chose between the two, which one to keep, I would chose the GH too 😀
Great run on both vehicles. The grasshopper could definitely go faster but I don't mind it. 😎👍
Yeah. My Hornets feel very fast compared to the GH. But the GH is so cute with the 380 :-)
I hate comeing with questions but a Retro buggy I was cleaning the 8AA battery house and one of the pos/neg Battery contacts fell out !After taking the hole thing apart I can find how to get it back in any place U recommend to figure out what to reattach it to and ideas how? I'm still looking for my First Yellow Wolf sticker buggy no luck yet. I Appreciate you
Uhh, I think it would be difficult for me to say anything with a buggy I do not know. Hope you get it sorted out. Best advice I can give for the next disassembly is to check first if manuals exists, and if not, take a picture (or better, a video) of each step/part that you disassemble during the process. That way you can go back to the pictures/videos when starting to reassemble if doubt arises. Another good tip is to keep screws together with the parts they match.
Hlo can u tell me that how i can contact companies foe review purpose
Hi friend! I’m not the best to answer that question, as I’ve never really contacted any companies. They usually contact me on Facebook.
Great video. Very nice cars
Thanks, Jack! Hope you liked the test! Awesome batteries for both of them! Cheers!
Is it possible to find a bigger 2S LiPo for the A959-B?
Yeah, but you might have trouble fitting it into the battery compartment.
poor little old Grasshopper needed a 2840 size 5000kv motor dropped into it just to have a little more fair chance at a run (about double the RPM of a 390 motor, not TOO radical).
edit: to be fair, should have been A-959A version with the 390 vs the 5000kv 'hopper.
But yeah, I agree, the A959-A vs the GH with a larger pinion and 5000 KV motor would have been more fair, he he.
yup, and we know A959B is a way overpowered 4WD paperclip to begin with. way back when had a hornet with 34 degree 27 turn Dynamite motor in it, they get plain squirrely even with all the little suspension softening mods it'd gotten.
model nutty Yeah, I got a Rising Fighter (Grasshopper II/DT-01) with a 19T pinion and a 540 Sport Tuned motor and a lot of upgrades.
Always wondered about those AWANFI batteries, how are they holding up?
So far so good 🙂 I will defintely do an update as soon as I have put them through some cycles.
Moin!
Den Akku gibt es bei Amazon nicht mehr - habt ihr noch mehr Quellen dafür?
Beste Grüße !
Guten yah 🙃 Not sure I understand ... but if it’s not in the link anymore try to search for it on a amazon or eBay ...
@@NordicRC i will do so ! Thank you so much for your help !
Love that old school hopper!
Whats the difference between awanfi and standard battery for wltoys A959
Should have better c-rating (45C). I expect the stock battery to be around 25C.
I'd still have the Candy Hopper😍😍
Such an icon yeah. Love it 😍 Thanks for watching, my friend.
Yep, I have a candy hopper too plus I have a couple of those exact batteries.
A 540 silver can, can take 45c battery without overload?
Looks like it :-) The motor gets pretty hot, but it gets hot with the stock battery too. But 45C is not far from a standard with 30-40C.
Why the tamiya has so much positive camber in the front wheels?
Hi Panos! It's a 1984 design - so it has no double wishbone suspension but instead swing arms that can provide both positive of negative camber. Love it :-) Thanks for watching, Panos.
@@NordicRC Wow for some reason I didn't notice that it had a solid swingarm. Thanks for the reply
Yeah, they are not very capable, old designs like that, but so much fun and cool anyway :-)
hi, im planning to pick a959. but im a noob. which one has longer battery lifetime between a959 vs a959b in stock mode?
Hi bro! The A959-B is supplied with a 1500 mah where the A959 is supplied with a slightly smaller 1100 mah. But in my experience even with the smaller battery the A959 has a longer run time, probably because of the motor.
@@NordicRC thanks for the explanation bro. very helpful
Did you get a reading with out flipping it? I hear that throws it off
The WLToys?
@@NordicRC But that's still fast for such a small car.
Hi Can you run any turn brushed motor on a tamiya or kyosho standard three step speed controller with a 7.2v nicad.
On their MSC’s? Not sure. Never tried to go very low with those. But you can always check the temperature of the resistor. If it starts burning it’s probably too low turns 🙃😉
What shoud I buy. A959 or a9595b
I have a comparison series of the two. I would say, for run time, control and the every day run, the A959. For crazy fast speed the A959-B.
Grasshopper vs WPL D42, let them fight!
That would be a good fight 😂😅
Love the grasshopper forever ❤️
Me too 😍 Thanks a lot for watching, Luke!
Cool car and video.
Thank you so much. Yeah, loving both the 1984 and the 2014 :-)
Good review
Thanks, Paul!
grasshopper probably made its debut' in the 70's
No, it’s all in the video and description. The GH is from 1984 and the A959 is from 2014. So about thirty years apart when it comes to their set-up.
Where are you from?
Denmark, Scandinavia :-)
Replace the old and tired stock 380 motor with either a better brushed one or go brushless.
Why? 😉
@@NordicRC To get a little more speed out of it. Doesn't have to turn it in to a rocket though. Maybe just go to the 540 motor?
Think it’s fun to have this one stock (not a tired old motor, it’s the re-release version). And got plenty of other Hoppers and Hornets with 540 motors. Check out my channel to see them.
give the grasshopper a 2s aswell 👍
I did if you watched the video 😉 Well, it makes no big difference. Watch the new video (A959-A vs The Hornet) where I reverse the roles and give it a 3S. Being unfair and comparing Apples to Orange is the goal in these videos 🙂
Sorry I thought it was a nimhs... nice vids either way 👍
Thanks, David.
Grasshopper can be tuned up to nuclear levels if you wanted to.
So cool, Bruce. Yeah, seen a couple of brushless Grasshoppers here on youtube. I think everyone is surprised when they see the speed :-)
@@NordicRC its funny to see their faces when it just ups and goes haha ,it looks really good with the lights on to
Love it
Thanks, buddy!
Nice video.
Thanks, Thanakhan!
Fun factor? I have many RC's... too many. My losi mini8 is fast and probably way better than that thing in this video, the losi is fun. But I really seem to spend more time with my Grasshopper or Hornet.. my Lunchbox is slow too but all seem to get more play time, just me.
Yeah I run my Hoppers and Hornets and other ancient Tamiya designs as much as I run my more modern designs
I bet the grass hopper would give "you" better lap times. Go fast is only good if it's managed. I had a stock lunch box that was number 1 for an insanely long time in our town🤣 it was slow as.... well slow, but completing a lap goes further than chasing your upside down whip. 🤷
go go go!! Thumbs Up
Thanks a lot for the support and feedback, Arkhyne!
@@NordicRC you always welcome.
I don't use Lipos in my Grasshopper either because I can't afford them LOL
Some of them are pretty much the same price as the NiMHs by now :-) But I find a NiMH more than sufficient and suitable for the Grasshopper :-)
@@NordicRC lipo chargers tho, I'm just using included NiMH chargers from Traxxas RTRs
Ahh, yeah. I remember. Starting it all up, with new batteries and charger can get expensive :-(
Do you not think it's a bit apples and oranges?
Definitely! Spot on.
y r u using the stock motor in the Grasshopper? I'm using a Tamiya Sport Tuned 540 brushed. It's a lot faster LOL
Yeah, stock motor. I got some of my other Hoppers/Hornets fitted with the 540, and also one Sport Tuned. A lot faster yes :-)
I enjoy building the cars
Me too. I enjoyed building this Grasshopper too :-)
Dale con más pista para ver cuánto alcasa
Well a Lipo will always be faster.
But Jebus it was slow... and bouncy... and mechanical speed control sucks... and winter is sooo hard on plastic chassis... and epoxy used to be expensive... sigh
Ha ha, sounds like some good Grasshopper memories :-) Slow but fun and bouncy. Got some Hornets that are a lot faster, but not necessarily more fun.
Add to Tamiya brushless motor and lipo 3s (70kmh) and than compare to wltoys
Good idea. But this was just a bit of fun. I have another thing planned though, with a WLToys buggy and a Tamiya buggy, that will reverse the roles though, compared to this video :-)
and what the hell your a959b takes off flips over and crashes and nothing happens my beats against a tire while making a piece of reverse gear and bending a screw grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr that anger :-D
however spectacular video as always you are a great :-D
You are great Simon ☺️ Thanks for the support. Uhh, yeah, flipped and jumped all of mine many times but no breakages whatsoever. And I’ve had about 7 of them. Too bad about yours. Hope it will be an easy fix.
Thats funny both of rigs are green. Green VS Green. haha
Yeah, thought they would make a cute couple together :-)
lol
Nice Grt
Not fast, but a beautiful 1980ies icon 😍
Tamiya as slow as ever i grew up with the famous speed promises always disappointed.
Heavy gearboxes don't seem to ever move on
I still have an original 80's super clodbuster.
And considering the other available rd products you can buy i. Don't know how tamiya are still doing this.
You can get much more for half the price.
And 1:18 really are so fast so many parts available
Buggies.
Just can't get enough of them :-)
Wow best Car RC
Thank you, Doc!
That Grasshopper needs a lipo
It got one, but no 1984 model really "needs" a LiPo, in my opinion. They should be enjoyed for what they are :-) Modern basher-RC's on the contrary need a LiPo :-)
@@NordicRC Well yeah but, over power can be fun. If you wanna go super vintage put matched cell Nicd pack in there lol
Yeah, never said it couldn't be fun, just that it really don't need it :-) Got both a 1200mah Ni-Cad from 1986 and a 3S LiPo ready for a Grasshopper or/and Hornet Run when the weather and times permits it :-)
you need a gyro to do this!
A gyro would probably help, yes :-)
@@NordicRC yup..my rc car use a gyro and its very fun to run a speed test...more stable and more fun..
Yeah, got some TSM and also a new DumboRC receiver with Gyro. Plan was to eventually install it on my upgraded A959. Not sure though I will continue the video series with that one, but will try the DumboRC gyro on another one I have trouble with going straight 😀
@@NordicRC okay i will wait for your next video😁
Not sure when the gyro will turn up on the channel.
Happy?
No.
I have a lot of homework to do so I can’t play with my RC, or watch videos!
I’m happy :-) Lots of work here too that take most of the time :-)
All good but sometimes you have to look outside the window to see what's outside.
The fun and big jumps you can get from half the price fully alloy.
Carbon fiber.
50mph plus.
Surely adrenaline and common sense should kick in and see it's a trap of thinking your going to have awesome fun but then u see the next guy ripping across the park for less than £100
At twice the speed
With batteries last twice as long
U try walking down the park with 9 old 7.4 batteries
Seriously
Nooooooooooo lol
I remember those days took well
Will good fun though
But times move on for good reason...
I feel it real...Cheers
Cheers, bro. Well, the old 1980s (re-release or vintage) buggies have a certain charm of their own. But I like them all. 1984 and 2014. It's the diversity of my car park that makes it fun :-)
nice
Thanks!
The motors should be the other way around tho...
That could be fixed. Got an A959 and a Hornet. That should fix it. But "a fair fight" wasn't really the point of the video.
540 in a smaller car vs a 380 in a bigger car . Not even a fair comparison.
Hi Joe. Yea, that was the general idea of the run. Not being far. Motor isn’t the only thing. It’s also a 1984 design versus a 2014. I got another one with two other cars (A959 versus The Hornet) too, where the motor size is reverse. Not fair either.
grasshopper is more realistic . nowaday the rc are crazy speed very fake.
I think both can be fun. Got a lot of Tamiya, vintage and re-releases, which I generally keep more-or-less stock but I also got new more modern stuff and modern set-ups. Just two different aspects of the hobby. That's what I like about the hobby, the diversity :-)
that battery looks like a rebranded fleureon
Maybe both are rebranded. A lot of the times one company/manufacturer delievers the same battery to different brands.
@@NordicRC yeah thats definitely true.

Greetings from Scandinavia!

Not happy?
Wltoys only last 6 minutes and it dies😒
It does? Are you thinking about the run time?
