There mAY be something here for those in Hawaii (Maui) who have recently suffered wildfire bushfire devastation!

Profound food for thought! Perhaps also applicable to climate change... mostly destruction happens when we ignore God's order of creation, making poor choices... The last verse tells us to ask God's forgiveness, throwing ourselves on his mercy & taking the chance to make a new start!

"Climate change" is a leftist myth that has no place in a Bach discussion. Maybe if you listened to anything besides mainstream news you would realize that the Maui fire was not a bushfire.

The qui tollis of the b minor mass. I've always wondered why Bach didn't even bother to write original pieces for his last masterpiece.

he wrote the most music of any composer. cut him some slack. he didn't look at the b minor mass as his final masterpiece. he looked at it the same as anything else. just another commission.

The B-min mass wasn't Bach's last work, it wasn't a commission, and it does contain newly-composed material (especially in the Credo).

Bach was in his mid sixties when he put together the B minor mass. He was in a terrible health condition, suffering terrible eyesight and the aftermath of two failed surgeries of an english quack doctor. He was most likely simply not able to compose a complete catholic mass at the time. By the way the reworkings of his older pieces are exactly what make the B Minor mass so appealing: not only are they extremely artistic and give every piece an entirely new face but also make the mass sort of a compendium of almost all the styles Bach wrote in and a summary of Bach's entire musical life. One grand and great final choral masterwork - maybe the greatest piece of art ever created by mankind.
