The monster Ridley in the video game "Super Metroid" has a scream that is similar to a velociraptor scream. It sounds really amazing when you consider the fact that it is played in a 16-bit game from 1994.
That’s probably one of the most accurate velociraptor tactics. My theory is that velociraptors had striped scales to blend with tall grass. Then they all together jump out of grass and attack the nearby prey. In cartoon “Primal” on Adult Swim they recreated realistic velociraptor hunt in tall grass.
Ajay is an experienced hunter. It's not like he had a choice. Roland doing his thing somewhere else while his group wouldn't heed his warning. If he's left alone, he'd get picked off. He stays with the group, his chances are slightly better. Notice how he drops his bag. I'm assuming he knew he wasn't going to make it, which is how Roland figures out that Ajay didn't survive (he finds his friend's pack).
I once went camping in Germany and there was a field where the grass was the same height. I went walking through it once and because of this scene, I felt like: any minute now there could be a Raptor jump out of it.
This scene scared me as a kid. Seeing the raptors heads pop up and then you see the trails they're making through the grass sneaking up on the people, so scary.
What a horrifying position to be in for Ajay. You’re running for your life from a rex in the middle of the night on an island full of dinosaurs. Your main party is encroaching into an area, you know, is inhabited by the island’s most dangerous predators. Do you follow and hope the raptors pick off other people so you can safely cross? Or do you not go, but now you’re separated, alone with the possibility of a rex behind you, searching for you or raptors in front? Knowing full well that trek back to camp may get you killed by some other dinosaur. Awful situation to be in.
Honestly, I would probably turn around to the Rex and just wait for the others. Like Alan said in the first movie “Your still alive when they start to eat you” So I would rather have a quick death then a long and very very painful death
If he'd stayed, he would have come across Ian Malcolm and the squad, he would have been fine. Roland took down 1 of the T-rex's, not only that it appears the other one fucks off bc Ingen manages to load and transport the sedated Rex and pick up the crew. Point being, he made the wrong choice and he knew it was the wrong choice. What I wish they would have done, is spent half a second longer and let him fall behind while shouting to not go into the long grass, shown fear and panic in his face, showed the sounds of the Rex behind him, and then he goes in after them. They should have spent half a second longer, to really drive home the point of the predicament. Still a poor choice for someone who should have known better like Ajay should have. If a Rex is coming, you're better off hiding in that situation. The other hunters should also have known better than that. I understand they were panicked and herd mentality kicks in, but when they go in the long grass, they don't even attempt to fire their weapons and they aren't in a defensive position. They're basically single file line. Some of them don't react or shout when they see the raptor take down their buddy right next to them. Plus the guy who turns around and screams 😂. This sequence could have been done so much better, if they had done a little bit of reshoots.
And even that part it's awesome, it ends the development of Kelly, showing that she don't want to be in the gymnastic team because she don't want, not because she can't.
The orange variety of Raptor in this movie seems to be one of the most vicious versions to date. This wasn't hunting for food. This was killing for territory. And their behavior afterwards shows how vicious they actually are. The brown ones from the first movie were pissed about their containment. The ones from the next movie were after their eggs. These Raptors seemed to be taking pleasure in killing. Makes me wonder what Wu did to them at the genetic level.
Should've stayed out of the long grass. Love how the raptors watch to probably see how many people are in their territory and find which one will be easier to pick off first. They start at the back of the line picking them off one at a time but as soon as everyone starts to panic and run in all different directions then all the raptors attack. Even though the irony of the guy shouting " don't go into the long grass" and walks in anyways with the group, it doesn't take a genius to figure out that tall grass put to your shoulder would be a good spot for an animal attack. I do remember this scene came right after they where chased and almost eaten by a tyrannosaurus, I'm still wondering why no one in the group listened to Professor oak. Even if you are trying not to get killed on an island filled with dinosaurs walking with a group of armed men into an aria filled with tall grass, doesn't alway means safety in numbers it can mean " this is a buffet line".
Tbf, they were running from a rex, and certain death vs most likely, would be worth trying. They knew anything could attack them, but had no choice but to continue.
Quetzalcoatlus was so underutilized in Dominion. Could you imagine how cool and terrifying it would've been if we had this scene but replaced the raptors with Quetz?

These poor men were running away from an angry T-Rex mom who chased them because they stole her baby, so in punishment both Rexes were hunting the "hunters". These poor bastards were scared shitless, and even if you were quiet enough the raptors are smart enough to ambush and kill you if they want. ¿Didn't you see when Ian and the others came running?.. Even though they were less than the hunters group and more silent, Ian knew that the raptors were stalking them already. They were killed thanks to the female T Rex who was hunting them down, in the end I guess that they were running so scared that they didn't stop to think "Hey dude, wait a minute, this is a field with extremely tall grass. Some sneaky motherfucking dinosaur might live in here, and he might wanna jump on our asses while we are walking.. We better go back"
I don't think that would help you any better, now you're on your own and even being silence isn't gonna keep you from being noticed. Your best bet would be not to go into the long grass to begin with.

I love this scene! I think all these hunters except Ajay are dumb who still keep going into the grass despite Ajay yelling "Don't go into the long grass!", I would never dare going to any tall grass field in that height in the world. This is a cool moment showing how the Velociraptors in Jurassic Park hunting in their natural habitat. I always think it's funny at 1:08 how the guy is scared as hell and just stands still only to get attacked and killed by a Velociraptor! I love the look of the male Velociraptors in this movie. And it's a miracle how Ian and the others survives running through the long grass! They probably survived because the Raptors were busy eating the hunters.
Ian and the other survived because they are the primary heroes, and it's in the script. I really wish Vince Vaugh and/or Juliane Moore would have gotten eaten though, they were both so annoying. I don't mind Ian and his daughter surviving.

Ajay is an experienced hunter. It's not like he had a choice. Roland doing his thing somewhere else while his group wouldn't heed his warning. If he's left alone, he'd get picked off. He stays with the group, his chances are slightly better. Notice how he drops his bag. I'm assuming he knew he wasn't going to make it, which is how Roland figures out that Ajay didn't survive (he finds his friend's pack).
One of the best sequences in the whole series, imo.

I once went camping in Germany and there was a field where the grass was the same height. I went walking through it once and because of this scene, I felt like: any minute now there could be a Raptor jump out of it.
This scene scared me as a kid. Seeing the raptors heads pop up and then you see the trails they're making through the grass sneaking up on the people, so scary.
This was my favourite sence in all of the franchise
What a horrifying position to be in for Ajay.
You’re running for your life from a rex in the middle of the night on an island full of dinosaurs. Your main party is encroaching into an area, you know, is inhabited by the island’s most dangerous predators.
Do you follow and hope the raptors pick off other people so you can safely cross? Or do you not go, but now you’re separated, alone with the possibility of a rex behind you, searching for you or raptors in front? Knowing full well that trek back to camp may get you killed by some other dinosaur.
Awful situation to be in.
Honestly, I would probably turn around to the Rex and just wait for the others. Like Alan said in the first movie

If he'd stayed, he would have come across Ian Malcolm and the squad, he would have been fine. Roland took down 1 of the T-rex's, not only that it appears the other one fucks off bc Ingen manages to load and transport the sedated Rex and pick up the crew. Point being, he made the wrong choice and he knew it was the wrong choice. What I wish they would have done, is spent half a second longer and let him fall behind while shouting to not go into the long grass, shown fear and panic in his face, showed the sounds of the Rex behind him, and then he goes in after them. They should have spent half a second longer, to really drive home the point of the predicament. Still a poor choice for someone who should have known better like Ajay should have. If a Rex is coming, you're better off hiding in that situation. The other hunters should also have known better than that. I understand they were panicked and herd mentality kicks in, but when they go in the long grass, they don't even attempt to fire their weapons and they aren't in a defensive position. They're basically single file line. Some of them don't react or shout when they see the raptor take down their buddy right next to them. Plus the guy who turns around and screams 😂. This sequence could have been done so much better, if they had done a little bit of reshoots.

With as controversial as The Lost World is, they really nailed the tension of the raptors.... up until one is defeated using the power of gymnastics.
And even that part it's awesome, it ends the development of Kelly, showing that she don't want to be in the gymnastic team because she don't want, not because she can't.
The orange variety of Raptor in this movie seems to be one of the most vicious versions to date. This wasn't hunting for food. This was killing for territory. And their behavior afterwards shows how vicious they actually are. The brown ones from the first movie were pissed about their containment. The ones from the next movie were after their eggs. These Raptors seemed to be taking pleasure in killing. Makes me wonder what Wu did to them at the genetic level.

Should've stayed out of the long grass. Love how the raptors watch to probably see how many people are in their territory and find which one will be easier to pick off first. They start at the back of the line picking them off one at a time but as soon as everyone starts to panic and run in all different directions then all the raptors attack. Even though the irony of the guy shouting " don't go into the long grass" and walks in anyways with the group, it doesn't take a genius to figure out that tall grass put to your shoulder would be a good spot for an animal attack. I do remember this scene came right after they where chased and almost eaten by a tyrannosaurus, I'm still wondering why no one in the group listened to Professor oak. Even if you are trying not to get killed on an island filled with dinosaurs walking with a group of armed men into an aria filled with tall grass, doesn't alway means safety in numbers it can mean " this is a buffet line".
Tbf, they were running from a rex, and certain death vs most likely, would be worth trying. They knew anything could attack them, but had no choice but to continue.

Quetzalcoatlus was so underutilized in Dominion. Could you imagine how cool and terrifying it would've been if we had this scene but replaced the raptors with Quetz?
I think this film is underrated, yeh the San Diego part is a bit silly, but this scene and the trailer hanging over the cliff scene are just what make this movie really good

I would have broken off from that crowd with them being as loud as they were. When trying to avoid predatory animals, BE QUIET.
True, but the key there is, if seen. If the predators are going for the herd, and you break off and they don't see you because they're after the herd, you might have a chance at survival. But I never would have gone into that field like that, I'd have stayed to the side in the forest and gone by the field that way.

These poor men were running away from an angry T-Rex mom who chased them because they stole her baby, so in punishment both Rexes were hunting the "hunters". These poor bastards were scared shitless, and even if you were quiet enough the raptors are smart enough to ambush and kill you if they want. ¿Didn't you see when Ian and the others came running?.. Even though they were less than the hunters group and more silent, Ian knew that the raptors were stalking them already. They were killed thanks to the female T Rex who was hunting them down, in the end I guess that they were running so scared that they didn't stop to think "Hey dude, wait a minute, this is a field with extremely tall grass. Some sneaky motherfucking dinosaur might live in here, and he might wanna jump on our asses while we are walking.. We better go back"
I don't think that would help you any better, now you're on your own and even being silence isn't gonna keep you from being noticed.
Your best bet would be not to go into the long grass to begin with.

I love this scene! I think all these hunters except Ajay are dumb who still keep going into the grass despite Ajay yelling "Don't go into the long grass!", I would never dare going to any tall grass field in that height in the world. This is a cool moment showing how the Velociraptors in Jurassic Park hunting in their natural habitat. I always think it's funny at 1:08 how the guy is scared as hell and just stands still only to get attacked and killed by a Velociraptor! I love the look of the male Velociraptors in this movie. And it's a miracle how Ian and the others survives running through the long grass! They probably survived because the Raptors were busy eating the hunters.

Ian and the other survived because they are the primary heroes, and it's in the script. I really wish Vince Vaugh and/or Juliane Moore would have gotten eaten though, they were both so annoying. I don't mind Ian and his daughter surviving.
