  • Testing a variety of settings on stainless steel by marking a dragon vector image. At the end of the video I mark the power vs speed grid.

    Love the fact that you share your settings right away...unlike so many other that show their projects, but dont share settings with other laser heads newbies...thank you so much!!

    Wish someone could tell me why my 30 & 60 watt lasers do not like engraving aluminum... I have tried and tried different settings and nothing, looks like it makes the surface clean but that is about it. I do not get any type of depth to it. I can seem to cut lowers but that is only because of the black finish, it also does not like brass either.

      I have the same issue. I think the laser is under powered. RAYCUS 30w from chinacnczone. Great for cleaning paint but not for engraving.

    How do you stop the laser going back over the finished black mark and turning it into white??

      You set the number of passes (and angles, patterns, etc) manually in the hatch settings. I think I talked aout this quite a bit more in my video on hatching. Check it out if you're interested.

    What frequency where you using when making the grid at the end? Also, which hatch marks are which?

    • @jefferyj
      @jefferyj  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's been a while since I made this video but I think most of my grids are 25Khz unless it's specifically a grid to adjust frequency. I made another video where I talk in detail about the grids and also make them available for download if you want to check it out.

    Like co2, hatch matters but it takes ages for a galvo. In co2 it’s called interval. Because i may buy one i realized the more power i can afford i will go for it to reduce scanning time. Your results may change if you put a 50 focal length lens because the resolution will be much tighter and you not have to reduce so much hatch. So, a 50w machine with 2 or 3 different lenses could be a good starting point. I own already a 100w co2 for 3 years now so i understand much quicker how fiber work or what it requires. Also a nice upgrade would be to replace the height wheel with a motor driven one with a smooth step of movement. Do you agree?

    Have you ever engraved on wood? If yes what settings do you use for that? I seem to keep setting the wood on fire.

    • @jefferyj
      @jefferyj  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      CO2 will work much better on wood as they operate on different wavelengths.

    • @jefferyj
      @jefferyj  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      High power, low frequency, multiple passes, autorotating hatch angle....and throw in a clean up pass every now and then. It will just take time.

      the grid is easy to make in the software, just takes some time to make it.

    • @anthropod76
      @anthropod76 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sounds good, Ive only played with the software a bit when I looked at my father's laser. Mine should be here this week and I'll get cracking at it. Do you also do grids for frequency?

    • @jefferyj
      @jefferyj  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, it's easy to make, just time consuming. I haven't yet made a grid for frequency so all these marks are at 25khz.

    • @TinkerWithUs
      @TinkerWithUs 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I still don't have a good handle on the effect that frequency has on the mark. I've usually just left it at the default 20kHz. How would you explain the impact of frequency changes to the appearance of a mark? Or what is the impact of different frequencies on deep engraving? Have to do a bunch of testing, just haven't gotten around to it. I've got a maxphotonics 20w smart laser system, which uses what looks to be a custom skin of ezcad. not sure if the files are compatible between ezcad and this version. I'd assume so.
