I agree that cell phones take up way too much time in my day... I also feel like it's the new "tik Tok" attention span that everybody has... Everybody wants instant pleasure, better faster cheaper, same day shipping, etc... And the thing is that it's self perpetuating. The more we get instant pleasure, the faster the pleasure leaves the brain and the faster we need the next thing to jump to. It's a catch 22 because technology is supposed to make us more productive but in more cases it actually slows me down. The Empire State building took 2 years to build at a time with no cell phones or email. Nowadays you can't do a simple construction project in two years without a million change orders and RFI's. The solution is to (like Rob said) train yourself to be less dependent on the things that distract you and understand that it will actually make you more productive long term if you reduce your instant pleasure intake each day.
