The MDA Labor Day Telethon was an enchanting yearly variety show that ran for half a century. Hosted for many years by Jerry Lewis, the telethon featured top stars from the world of music, comedy, and Broadway and was like no other show on earth.

She should have been on the Jeffersons as Mrs Jefferson, The Angles wasn't ready for no black woman they did go over the idea, but somehow it didn't happen. They should have made her Florida Evans.
She was too glamourous for that role on the Jeffersons. I always thought an alternate show with all black angesl would have been cool. At the time Shari Belefonte Harper and Jayne Kennedy were considered but ultimately the suits decided the audience wasn't ready for a black angel - there loss as the show steadily declined as key figures like kate jackson left. @@rondothard1698

What a body!!! What energy!!!! This still inspires me to this day. Lola was the real deal. She learned her craft. Earned her status as a queen of Vegas! There was no one like her.
I live in Las Vegas and saw her perform here. Top notch entertainer!

She was the " it Girl " in the 60's and 70's more for looks and stage presence than her singing. Lola is now 80 years old.

@@VernaCunningham-sz9uz She started her career in 1961, there are videos on youtube of her singing and dancing on a television show in 1965 . She has not been been actively performing since 1997.
@@Winnib7479 That was a little before my time, however, I remember when I was in grade school, she had her own TV Special aired. About 1975 or 6.
@VernaCunningham-sz9uz Yes , she was very popular. I recall seeing her appearing on Johnny Carson and daytime talk shows in the 70s as well. She and Sammy Davis Jr. toured together, and we're close friends in the 60s . Entertainment was fun and somewhat innocent back then.😊
