Man, Heart-wrenching as it was, Princess Rhaenys and Meleys went out like the badass warriors they are. Surprisingly, I felt sorry for Sunfyre.
Sunfyre is truly the most beautiful dragon in westeros
Yes when I watched it I was yelling and screaming get her
Without Vhagar Greens wouldn't dare to take the crown of Rhaenyra
Absolutely!
Waiting for Vermathor to give Vhagar the kiss of fire
That’s how war works.
Agreed! Otto was smiling ear to ear the night when the kids fought, knowing secretly they now had a shot of a successful usurping.
@@westie7.5 vague spoilers are still spoilers, my guy. Not cool.
1. Viserys didn’t gift the dragon sculpture to Alicent. She had it repaired for him and gifted it back to him in season 1.
2. Aemond waited because Aegon had shown up and most likely he wanted to see what happened to him.
Also aegon smashed the carafe which I believe was dragon snapped. So two items shaped like dragons destroyed prior to the battle, foreshadowing what’s about to happen
I thought maybe Aemond was waiting to engage in battle because Aegon would get the enemy dragon tired and weak. More of a military view.. I don’t know…
Nope Amond did not see Agom before calming the dragon
@@mustyprinceunique3829 Yes he did. Aemond saw Aegonc+ Sunfyre flying over the trees after the horn sounded and that's why he calmed Vhagar from taking off in response to the horn.
@@mustyprinceunique3829don't understand people that watch the show and don't even know what's happened 😂
Aemond trying to take out both Aegon and rhaenys in one fell swoop was a dirty play
Nah it was fair. Aegon is a shit king.
I love how Aemon tried to kill his brother Aegon.
I didn’t expect that at all.
Well he is the Kinslayer, now Kinslayer.
Aemond is vengeful
Did we forget how bad Aemon is to Aegon. He fully had that coming.
Was about to say this here, like it's almost people forgot the previous episode how Aemon was getting roasted by his brother, to him it was revenge well deserved, although I still have wanna see Aemon killed off for Luke and his arrogance. @@l.c.7955
Aemond*
Rhaenys recognized Corlys’ illegitimate son and supported him being honored either way.
In my opinion Criston Cole is the only one who cared for Aegon in the whole episode
Only because he knows now he ain't getting anymore alicent lol
That's true. He may have his flaws but he knows his loyalty is towards the king
Sunfyre cared for him too, you can tell.
Cos he made him the hand of the king lol this isn’t rocket science
Only because it's his freaking job to keep the king alive. King dies, he's not a good hand or white cloak
Another curious thing noticed that might be a hint: the miniature dragon that Alicent drops on the floor and breaks, shatters in the exact spot of the injury that Sunfyre suffers in battle!
Defs some foreshadowing for sure
The falling and shattering of the dragon by Alicent foreshadows Aegon's dragon falling from the sky, and perhaps Aegon himself falling and shattering...
OOO thats good one, Had not thought of that
If Joffrey had a dragon there wouldn't have been a Westeros....
Calling Sunfyre one of the most powerful after last night’s episode is laughable. Dwarf compared to Meleys (RIP Red Queen).
Lol sunfrye survives btw and he is going to kill….💀
Sunfyre going to eat Rhanyra so he’s not dead
@@afg-akajanpubg430 wtf mate you just spoiled everything for me
@@amansyanbusiness the whole show was spoiled from the beginning due to the books…
You dumb enough to assume everyone has read all the books?@@afg-akajanpubg430
Aemond told Vhagar to wait because he wanted his brother to enter battle and possibly die from it. He tried to help push this along with a well-placed “dracarys”, then seeing this didn’t work either, decided to finish him off himself before being foiled by Cole. Naughty little brother, lol!
I just noticed the somewhat flippant facial expression on Aemond when Cole asks him where Aegon is while he's holding the dagger. If you watch his eye, you can see a pretty great borderline eye roll, like, "Ah, my idiot brother is right there." as he gestures with the knife. Pretty excellent acting on Ewan's end.
The major thing I missed this episode was the reason why the Blacks decided to send only 1 dragon when they knew Vhagar is on the other side and could show up at any moment. Sending 4 dragons would’ve completely changed the outcome and they could’ve easily ganged up on Vhagar and killed both her and Aemond, the strongest weapon the Greens have.
I agree with this, even 1 more dragon would've done more. But tbh, If Rhaenys went with Daemon to go kill Vhagar that one day. I don't think Vhagar would've existed to be a threat. since Daemon and Rhaenys and their dragons have a lot of skin in the battlefield. I know it's not a war for her to start.. but all of this would've probably been avoided if she just smoked them that day Aegon was crowned. now she still had to smoke him but in the process lost her life. I love Rhaenys to death.. but so many hesitation will be the downfall of Rhaenyra's house.
They didnt know Vhagar was there
The plan was an ambush all along. Them thinking the Greens will bring their biggest threat to a small keep like Rooks Rest was the last thing they would expect.
it was a well planned trap executed by Criston Cole and Aemond who learnt that Daemon was at Harrenhal which meant that the Blacks only had Rhaenyra with Syrax and Rhaenys with Meleys as their battle experienced dragons to send over to defend Rook's Rest. Rhaenys had 2 good opportunities to kill Aemond and effectively Vhagar earlier in the show - at Aegon's coronation but risk being labelled a kinslayer and when Daemon invited her to fly together to take down Vhagar which she refused due to Rhaenyra's orders of restraint.
They’re not going to risk all the dragons against vhagar Aemond and vhagar are the antagonist the show needs . Their death (which will be satisfying) will come later in the season I’m sure
8:38 this was foreshadowing the dragons falling in the climax of the episode
exactly, also isn't that the dragon she had repaired for her husband as a gift in season one?
@@life_with_laurieYes it was
it is about what happened to sunfyre, her son's dragon
Aegon's High Valyrian vocab is so bad, that unlike the other dragonriders, he even communicates with Sunfyre in the Common Tongue 🤭
Which is funny because he is the eldest son right?
@@mrsmilescam1550 he was busy drinking during teen years
Jace cant even speak high valyrian your one to talk
@Widowssaep Jace isn't the King of the 7 Kingdoms either though 😅
I think Aemond picking up the dagger was meant to be symbolism, mirroring Rhaenyra’s talk with her so son about Aegon’s prophecy. She was passing on the legacy to her son. On the other side, Aegon had the dagger but was completely unaware of the prophecy written on it. With Aegon being incapacitated, Aemond took the dagger, also unaware of the true responsibility of the crown.
I’m pretty sure Aemond read the prophecy off of that dagger since it had been in dragon fire moments earlier.

I love how WatchMojo somehow managed to watch the same episode as us, points out details that are on the nose and not important, and misses everything around it that is. Truly, I am impressed by how much they clearly missed and weren't paying attention. 👏👏👏
You know nothing WatchMojo.
Thank you! My thoughts exactly. I mean, if anyone missed the nonsense they listed, they should not be watching the show.
1) One thing of note is how both Aemond and Aegon used Dracarys to command their dragons to attack while Rhaenys used other commands.
2) Another thing of note is how Vhagar was formerly Rhaenys' daughter's dragon that ended up killing her.
3) Also Vhagar, despite her massive size, used the same sneak attack on Meleys as she did against Lucerys and Arrax. In the books, it is mentioned that Meleys and Rhaenys, being experienced together in battle, could have proven a match for Vhagar and Aemond in single combat but the battle against Aegon and Sunfyre had already taken a toll on Meleys.
In response of 3rd point I would rather called it smartness of both vhagar and aemond
Also, Vhagar and Meleys fought alongside each other in previous wars.
Dang I had not even put 2 and 2 together until after I read your second point. Wouldn't Vharar have recognized her and her dragon?
You got the whole Aemond waiting scene wrong. The whole point was, he was potentially letting his brother fly off to his death. Had Aegon not flown over, he was fully prepared to attack.
I think this channel do a propaganda for the show haha
It's WatchMojo, they're notorious for getting information wrong and misconstrued. I actually come back from time to time just to see how they screw up simplistic detailed information.
Yeah, their take for this was soooooooo bad.
Both can be true. He could be showing his control over his dragon AND letting his brother fly to his death. Two things can happen in one scene.
Aemond knows Aegon isn’t fit to be king . Let him basically send himself to his own death. That is if he is dead .
I like how Aegon drank wine before departing in his dragon. It’s like drinking and driving in Westeros, it’ll get you killed!
I think the foreshadowing happened when the queen dropped the dragon statue at the beginning of the episode
Princess Rhaenys went knowing full well she was not coming back. It broke my heart to see her & Meleys die but she did it on her terms 🤷🏻♀️ But what about Alicent and her abortion tho! Did not see that coming 😂
I really like Aegon's characterization. He's kind of a screw up, and a pawn in the game but I think he means well and wants to do great things. It would've been easy to make him Joffery 2.0, but they didn't go that route. I feel bad for him, as the only one who seems to care about him AT ALL is the worst person on the show, Cole. TGC is doing an excellent job. And Aegon's arc going forward has the potential to be fascinating. Maybe even Emmy-worthy. Can't wait to see what's next with him.
Remember when he r aped the servant girl? 🙄
@jossynda Yes, TGC wasn't playing him then. That was Ty Tennant's version of the character.
Everyone forgot what happened in season one! He bullied his little brother and literally had a child fighting ring and graped someone, Aegon is an awful person!
Ugh. I'm not arguing that the fictional character of Aegon is a good person. This is about TGC's (the actor) standout portrayal of the character.
This is a fictional story. No serving girls were actually r aped, no children were actually harmed. This is about the actor's portrayal of an arguably throw-away character elevating it to a fascinating performance.
Please remove the stick from your collective butts.
@@McCrapweasel Nobody is arguing with you about the actors performance but to say Aegon is "kind of a screw up" and that "he means well" and you feel bad for Aegon is insane to say considering what kind of person the fictional character is.
I wonder if Alicent will feel any guilt about what happened to Aegon. She was extra harsh with him in their last conversation, pretty much telling him he was worthless. What she said was true, but she could have said it in a bit more tactful way. He was already feeling pretty small from earlier events that day in the council, and she just rubbed more salt in the wound. I think their convo was what finally pushed him over the edge to do something really reckless and stupid in trying to prove he had some worth and deserved the crown.
Yes I think she will especially because of the foreshadowing in the previous episode when she goes to see her daughter Helaena and Helaena tells her that she forgives her. I thought it was due to Criston Cole shagging Alicent when he should have been guarding the young prince Jaehaerys who was killed by Blood and Cheese. But now I think Helena telling Alicent she forgives her is in reference to Aegon flying off (drunk and completely unprepared ) to the battle at Rooks Rest because Alicent basically told him he was useless and a weak King who hasn’t done anything to deserve the crown. Helaena has prophesied many things from the dreams she has so I think she foresaw all of this and that Aegon and Sunfyre would fall in battle and be gravely wounded.
@@bekkip3686Thats very interesting observation!
i think you missed point 2. he was waiting Aegon might die, gave a chance for Rhaenys
Those last 10-15 mins of dragon fight > All Drogon Scenes combined!!💀
Not really...
Idk about that
Some may have missed The Muppets or Seasem Street references. But in the book Theres Grover Tully, whose heir is Elmo Tully, who has two sons, Kermit and Oscar Tully. I can't remember what the called Grovers heir in the show. All four are names of Muppets done by Jim Henson.
They seem to have merged the characters of Elmo, Kermit and Oscar.
In the book Grover Tully is the grandfather of Elmo. Elmo is the heir to Riverrun and has two sons, Kermit and Oscar. Elmo Tully is a relatively prominent side player in the Dance, and Kermit Tully also becomes relevant later on. Book Oscar actually only has a very minor role.
I imagine the showrunners didn't feel that people would be able to take characters called Elmo and Kermit seriously enough, so Grover's grandson is called Oscar and the other two characters seem to have been written out (show Oscar isn't old enough to have adult sons)
@JennyMarie93 I thought Elmo might drew some legal action, but Grover, nah, not really.
What I've grown to love so much about Daemon is he sort of represents Targaryen madness. How does the saying go? When a Targaryen is born, the gods flip a coin.
But isn't this only happening to him now because the hall is haunted or is he actually randomly beginning psychosis?
@ #10: also Joffrey wanted to be king, while Aegon never wanted that. He was practically forced by the Greens.
3:38 That was an amazing touch. that hand necklace.
Things we missed was the fact that Vhagar and Meleys used to fly together with Baelon and Alyssa Targaryen for a time, Alyssa rode Meleys just weeks after birth with both her sons Viserys and Daemon
Dragons who once flew together claimed by different sides when at war :(
I don't think Aemond telling Vhagar to wait had anything to do with his impeccable timing. I believe he actually wanted his brother to engage first so that others may see how poor of a warrior he was. He wanted to undermine his brother
The broken heirloom pick stood out to me, and the explanation was on target.
There were a few issues with this video.. the biggest being Aemond keeping his dragon from attacking when it was wanting too.. no it was absolutely time to attack but he saw his brother show up and let him possibly get hurt or die first, then you never mentioned he literally tried to kill him when he did attack!! Aegon saw it coming and screamed before the fire hit him.. Cole seemed to even notice this and when he saw Aemond walking by the crashed dragon and king with his sword out he kinda stopped him although it’s ambiguous as to what Aemond was doing..
This episode was great I just wanted the princess to leave
They really got me with that one.. i thought, oh shnap, she is going to live!!!! and then she went back and i was balling my eyes out.
they cut down the trees earlier in episode only to prepare for Vhagar hiding before battle, This was done with communication bw aemond and cole earlier 😅
They ROBBED us of Elmo & Kermit Tully!
Aemon twirling the coin during the counsel meeting from the episode where he is strategizing with Cole in private
5:53 "if that's essence of nightshade she's giving him! - no, it's not. It's weirwood paste (this time without the Jojen ingredient 😁).
Aemond is playing the game of thrones ladies and gentlemen 😭😂 I think the exact opposite of what y'all said about Aemond, I think it was quite an impulsive decision to let Aegon get hurt like that. Now he's the only dragon rider for the greens minus daeron, who's dragon I assume is as small as moondancer.
I know that in the books, Jace gathers the dragon seeds to claim dragons and they eventually betray them, but with how the show is changing things I assume that Ulf and Hugh hammer will be sent as double agents to collect a few dragons for team green. And vermithor is probably the mightiest aside from Vhagar.
Hugh plot seems to revolve around his sick child
@@alexortiz809 and Aegon approved his request for getting paid for their work ahead of time I think, so he might be sympathetic to the greens.
Just like when I thought back to Arya in the beginning when I looked at Rhaenyra. The moment I saw an older Aemond and I saw his uncle immediately. I just can't believe that growth spurt he hit! His "Joffrey" of a brother meanwhile looks to have actually shrunk. Metaphor??🤔🤔
When aegon died and his dragon died. Raynys really went back to battle vhegar. That was insane. Like she throw herself at death lol. Yet last season she had a clear shot to kill everyone she didnt
1:00 That is because blood of the dragons runs thick through Aegons veins not joffreys😂
When Alicent dropped the dragon figurine and the wing broke, I thought it was a foreshadowing of what would happen to Sunfyre.
Meleys! No!!!
Something else you may have not noticed is the actress playing Alys Rivers was the Wolf girl from Netflix's GLOW. Looked super familiar and I finally placed it
The beauty of the show like this is full of if and only if incident. One more thing to address the size of dragons we saw the size of the three and clearly saw the difference between vhagar and others and why vhagar is tough if just loose your attention it will cut your throat immediately
@8:42 its a gift to Viserys from Allicent not otherwise.
So much added meaning that she dropped and broke it.
Ageon when flying looks like Ron flying on broomstick
Alicent also breaking the dragon statue could represent broken Sunfyre, who got a badly wounded wing at the end of the episode
1:24 "We're not expecting him to be a just ruler like his father though."
Uh, Aegon II is about 72% charcoal bricquette, the only thing he'd rule is a cookout. And not in a fun way.
I think Aemond one eye seen the inscriptions on the valirian steel daggar and has potentially learned about the song of ice and fire....
I enjoyed this episode!
I've just rewatched the final scenes and pretty sure that Aemond was definitely trying to kill his bro. Right after he'd commanded Vhagar to attack with fire the Sunfyre fell down into the woods.
In Joffery's defence it's a lot easier being brave when you own a 100-foot flying, fire breathing monster...
No it's not.
That charge was suicide there's no way Sunfrye could take The Red queen.
If it was Geoffrey he could have used his dragon to run away
Aemond had clear intentions to kill Aegon, 1st with the waith Vhagar command and 2nd with the walk with open sword towards the fallen drsgon.
I'm supposed to be working, but here I am...
I think when Alice says that the last mhaester ran away in the night, she is talking about when the conquerer attacked Harrenhall. And that she's been there ever since
🔍Missed so many details, thanks for the insights! 🐉
I think Laenor's dragon is foreshadowing possibly his death. 🤷🏼♀️
Get your facts straight Watchmojo!! Alicent repairs the dragon and gives it to Viserys after he breaks it!
It’s me or in 5:37, there is something or someone watching Daenerys from the roof?
One thing I didn’t understand was Aegon speaking to Sunfire in English vs everyone else speaking to their dragons in Valeryn. Thoughts?
I guess the time Alicient drop the Dragon fiigure signifies the fate of Aegon's Dragon whose wings broke during their clash . And was not able to fly again
Aegon’s kind of a shit, but he’s a saint compared to Joffrey, even standing up to his grandfather to help the common people
Daemon ain't dying.. He's gonna end up at the Isle of Faces
Also, a dragon figurine falls from her hands right after, and so does a real one.
MEH. Aemond didn’t “calm his overzealous dragon,” he was preparing to take flight after hearing the horns and changed his mind when he saw Aegon flying above them into the fray. Vhagar became uncontrollable when Arrax doused her with fire, which sent her into a rage. This doesn’t mean grandma has given the reins over to him completely.
My personal top ten of things I missed in house of the dragon;
1. Any semblance of good storytelling
2. Pacing
3. Genuine tension
4. Thoughtful character development
5. Rich world building
6. Compelling dialogue
7. Exciting action
8. Milk of the poppy
9. Emilia Clarke
10. Kittens.
How did I miss any of this if I watched it?
I didn’t really get what rhaenyra was saying to jace about the ice and fire
Him not being able to control the dragon has nothing to do with Aemond , it is more proof that people have no power over dragons, it's just an illusion of power as Viserys once said. Aemond didn't lose his temper, he thought he was just playing around, and the dragon did what it wanted, if anything his growth isn't with his character but his dragon communication skills i guess. Also he didn't attack because he saw his brother the king, not the character thing you guys are mentioning.
rewatching GOT right now, and i'm not sure if it's because i'm watching HOTD now knowing everything that happens later, but it feels like HOTD is immediately a better and more compelling show.
The strap on Rheanys, would be important on the battle of God's eye
b4 the dagger scene..i think aemond also kept the blackfyre..
All I gotta say by this point is... are you really surprised?
Rhaenys secures herself to meleys mount in the books aemond dies and is found still attached to his mount
"If you weren't paying attention" you mean people who have been staring into their phones the whole time and missed the *very obvious* "missed things".
You clearly didn't pay attention either.
WatchMojo missed the attention to details. Remember the dragon figurine that has already broken wing... What happened also to sunfyre had a broken wing on the left too.
Queen rheanyra's hesitation to the war costed them lose of princess rhaenys n melys
Queen rheanyra should have always considered prince deamon's advices
i still don't fully understand why Rhaenys would come back to fought Aemond. She could've just back to Dragonstone and regroup for all out attack on Vhagar. With no Aegon and Sunfyre, Black would've win easily if all 4 dragon go out against one. Even if it's Vhagar.
All of this to have bran on the throne (The barn owl - cursed to be in human form)
Alicent reading through history tryting to confirm that "the song of ice and fire" is actually a real story or more likely trying to (not) confirm it exists as to convince herself what Rhaenyra said was a lie.
its seems like aemond wants aegon to die on the war.
Aegon "the Conqueror"'s crown is described by both GRRM & TWOIAF as *"A circlet of Valyrian steel, set with big square-cut rubies"*
the prop piece seem to be anything but, and looks too cheap
In the first scene the sculpture of the dragon breaks at the wing (and that is the injurie that Meleys inflicts on Sunfyre). Before going to batle Aegon throws away a vase with a dragon drawing that shatters on the floor (and tha's what happens to Aegon).
Aemond points the location of his brother to Cole with the blade end of the dagger, symbolically that means he attacked his brother willingly, letting him face Rhaenys alone and burning him when he got the chance.
I'm thinking that's Jojen paste she's giving Daemon.
Aemond keeps his sword before he saw Cole. He maybe not try to kill his brother he only check if he dead.
Aemon isn't next in line they only killed one of aegons aires
The dragon figurine fell was about an actual dragon falling from the sky.
Plus u missed many many new and important details
the dragon sculpture breaking its wings is about sunfyre, her son's dragon
Hard disagree on the one about Aemond controlling Vaghar. The scene with Luke from season 1 is supposed to be our first taste of what dragons are like in combat: barely controllable. In that episode, Luke's dragon atracks her with fire (against Luke's command), and Vaghar reaponds as most wild animals would, regardless of what the humans want. In this episode Vaghar hadn't been antagonized, she was calm, so of course she would listen to him.
The lannister had the Targaryen killed for playing with his marble.
I don't think Aemond got control of vagar, just a calm dragon is more willing to listen
Wondering where the Greyjoys are?!
Can't believe Rhaenys is dead. I wanted some Dragon action but not like this 😭
Crazy to think that the reason for war is based off of a misunderstanding 😂😂😂😂.
Same thing with Joffreys Ascension too lol
I wonder if Aegon lives 😂
A bit crispy but don't worry he'll soon be dead too 😅
Im much braver like Aegon too when I'm drunk
