  • Richard Hammond is at the 1999 Frankfurt Motor Show in Germany, taking a look at a big luxury car from French manufacturers Peugeot - the 607. Plus, he speaks to the chief executive of Peugeot - Planner Christian Priser, to find out whether he thinks the 607 can compete and succeed in the luxury car market.

We had a 605 that I kept up to 325000 miles; my mother-in-law has had one of the first 607s from new and it still drives brilliantly in spite of its 200000+ miles. Neither car has ever needed a major part replacing or broken down in any way.

@@rubenbraekman4515 The 607 is still doing fine although the alarm sometimes comes on if you open the door too quickly after using the remote. Only real fault in all this time. Still on the original exhaust too!

Funny how Top Gear was so ridiculously anti-Peugeot, and yet Hammond never really was. He praised the 407 and used it as a pace car in a race (mysteriously absent from TH-cam), and also praised the 207.

Hammond more trustworthy, the other one merely wanted to impress his audience

Top Gear is def anti Peugeot
      but the presenters really arent
Jeremy for example liked the 306 GTi 6 and the 106 Rallye
he also claim that the 205 GTi as the only thing that's better than the original Golf GTi
as for James, i dont know much

This car is much better to me than most of the cars nowadays. Looks more comfortable and plenty of space inside. #peugeot607

Ive had a £200 607 for a year, a grand car which did the job no problem. Not particularly nice to look at and to drive a bit too heavy and wallowy, even its predecessor the 605 felt much more enjoyable to drive.

But how is the comfort? nobody can buy this car expecting speed and handling... that is harshness in my head.

For comfort the 607 was superb, get a model with the leather seats especially cream and it feels a very luxurious way to waft about.

The manufacturers are not about "What can you beat", they just release their own big , comfortable, luxury car.
