love your videos, helping me slowly add some love to my GRC. i used this guide to change my shift knob which has been a huge improvement, however, i tried to install a moshimoto shift boot and i sadly could not figure out to few final steps. any chance you would make a shift boot guide or be able to offer some tips? i feel like i was so close but i am horrified at accidentally messing something up so close to the most necessary piece to the vehicle. thanks!
Hey man, that's very kind of you to say! What part of the shift boot install is giving you issues? Removing the boot from the console? What shift boot did you buy?
@@Haloruler64 thank you! its a mishimoto universal shift boot kit, it came with the boot as well as a retainer. so i followed exactly up to about 4:21, i pulled the entire shift surround up and pulled the lockout up with the c clamp. but there two things i wasnt sure of: the first was separating the lockout from the shift boot. in the video yours just slid out (4:25) but there was a lot of resistance in mine. two hands pulling and it almost felt like it wasnt supposed to come out of the shift boot. however, with all the wiring and stuff i couldnt really get a great angle on it. does it just kind of pop out? still using the stock lockout with a billetworkz spacer and knob (which your video helped with
@@buddhaburna7853 Ok so for popping the stock lockout off, the first time it's a bit tight. But yeah if you have two hands it's much easier, Peel one edge off the lockout then work around it rather than just pulling like I did in the video. As for the connectors, you push the latch in and the connector should slide out. They're a little stiff but push the latch in all the way. I've never removed the boot from the car. But it looks like it's just clipped in. At exactly 4:19 you can see all the clips around the shift boot. As for attaching the new universal boot to that series of clips, I have no idea. I found a video for a standard Corolla Hatchback and most of it looks extremely similar. th-cam.com/video/GBG_L_PxqYg/w-d-xo.html
I just ordered the nad as I was getting bored of my shift nob I know I could've got the pro but it's being discontinued so I decided to get it for 60 bucks and it's on its way pretty excited not gonna lie
@Dima, thanks for the video, one of the more concise and easy to understand instructional videos I have seen. One question for you, compared to the original factory shifter, did you experience increased noise and vibration from the Likewise unit? Thanks.
Glad to help! No extra noise on an OEM vehicle. Had it rattle a little with a 70A durometer rear engine mount though. But so was the glove box and everything else. Not to say yours will too, but my chassis really didn't like 70A durometer. Currently on a 60A durometer rear engine mount and the reverse lockout is silent.
@@Haloruler64 Thanks for the quick response. I asked bc of my negative experience when I "upgraded" the engine and transmission mounts on my S2K. Sure, everything felt more connected at the track, but my daily driving turned into crap 😬
@@motheish1396 I'm currently running the Delta X Motorsport pitch mount with a 60A bushing, and after a track day of break in, it feels almost like OEM! And it's a substantial improvement in terms of shift feel and putting down torque IMO. Much more improvement than downside. The 70A was bad, at least on my car it was rattling the interior apart. Also gonna be testing a new pitch mount soon that should be more daily friendly. But from my experience so far, I'd say the 60A durometer Delta X mount is a must have even for a daily driver.
Just installed mine, but pulling it up it has that stuck feeling where you have to manually push it down. It doesn’t feel as smooth as how it looked in your video. Some help would be great !
Hmm, is the knob too narrow and it gets stuck inside the knob? Does it get stuck without the knob on? Did you use the Likewise washer? Mine is buttery smooth.
@@Haloruler64 I’m using the ghost knob from likewise. It gets stuck without the knob and with the knob like it doesn’t retract back after I get it out of reverse, I’d have to manually push it down. And yes I did use the likewise washer and it’s still doing the samething
@@ralphgarcia9643 That's very unusual... I dunno what it could be getting stuck on. Is it lubed all the way down? Some debris stuck between the shift shaft and the lockout?
First of all, the stock lockout is really wide and prohibits the use of most shift knobs. This allows you to fit most shift knobs over the narrower collar. Second, it's an aesthetic choice. I love how it looks and feels.
@@jimsgaragetoys Yeah pretty much. If you're sticking with the OEM knob, then this lockout is purely aesthetic. And fun, since you have a handle to pull. But if you want to switch knobs you'll need it.
I appreciate the video guide man. I just got mine installed following this since the LW tutorials are for the GR Yaris and not the Corolla.
Glad to help!
Thanks for the install guide! I just installed mine and your video definitely made it easy.

Might get one for my gr

Does that set up work with the XSE aswell?
I'm still not sure. It would make sense that it does, the XSE has a very similar lockout function, but I don't know anyone who has tested this.

Been wanting one for my XSE for ages. Now that they have confirmed the RLX for the GR, wonder if its compatible 😅
It might be! Do you have a photo of the stock reverse lockout out of the car?

Did y’all ever find out if it fit the XSE?
What adapter did you get?
Manual Toyotas are all M12x1.25mm
Will this fit the corolla hatchback Se 2020?
I haven't confirmed it but it SHOULD. No promises.
