Taste? I was wondering if we have another term for that kind of 'standards'. If we learn and acquire 'taste,' does it imply that we should be more practical than keep it high? People of a particular class feel themselves superior because of their taste... losing empathy and compassion. Myanmar society needs a taste of Myanmar majority and minority as well, not necessarily higher tastes, which might demand 'classism' as you are cautious of. I come from a minority background in Myanmar, and I feel that the middle class are rising up, while the lower class are still struggling for survival. At the end of the day, what we will need is a good life and equal society, rather than people with different lofty tastes. Lofty tastes could create resentment. Your thought is refreshing, indeed. Thanks for your lovely and refreshing thought.
You’re looking at it more from the economical point of view. What you can afford and what you cannot. Like I mention in the essay even if you’re poor you can still have good taste. And that in itself could be a motivation to reach higher. But of course you have to be aware of how ambitious you get.
