As long as Babar is captain, he is happy… what does he care about Pakistan?
Babar is a timid captain. Always defensive in outlook and over dependent on stats. When he won the toss, the easiest decision was to bat first, pile up a mountain of runs on a belter of a pitch, and then defend the target like lions. Australia is a different kettle of fish as compared to Sri Lanka. But their successful chase against Sri Lanka made Babar believe they could do the same against the Aussies. If he had the ‘No.1 bowling attack in the world’, he should have used it to defend rather than bowl first. And, when Pakistan needs him most, Babar is never there to bail them out.
Pakistan’s chances in this World Cup seem to be getting bleaker by the day. They faced two strong teams and they lost both the matches. This is an eye-opener for the team management and the PCB who seldom accept the reality and are always in a denial mode. There is clearly no spark in this side.
While I do not want to hold a brief for Babar and his team for their errors- let us also accept that there are times when things don't work in your favour. Even King Kohli was not clicking for 3 years. So while I have no excuses for the non performance of Pat- I do not doubt the ability of Babar. Of course he is a good batter not a modern great like Virat or Rohit or Smith.
