I just love watching this video. It's all about Jesus and his disciples. It's the Good News but in a different way. I wish that it was in movie theaters now, I would go and see it. Who's with me? Love from Marysville California
Me! I was in a little church group in Pgh in 1971, a friend there was a friend of S. Schwartz, at C Mellon, who had just written G. Spell,,, it’s always been special to me,,, and I’ve introduced it to my grandkids! The nine year old especially loves the music!
This soundtrack has been with me most of my life. It's a beloved old friend. To watch this glimpse behind the scenes now, through the lens of more than 40 years, is incredible. Thank you for posting!
Thank you so much for posting this! It's amazing how they filmed it. At 1st, I thought they'd practically had to close off NYC and get people to evacuate in order to do the film. Cause in the film, NYC was completely deserted, there was not a living soul except the Cast of Godspell.
This is probably one of my favourite plays. As a Christian I know what it’s about. As a thespian I get inspiration and as an older person it makes me feel young again.
This musical has all the warmth and sweetness the more self-consciously grandiose "Jesus Christ Superstar" lacks. In less expert hands, this treatment could have lapsed into gooey preciousness.
My parents took us to see Godspell when I was in 3rd grade. Subsequently, I've been to numerous performances since even in Spanish in Mexico City. Wish this kind of Christianity was what prevailed. Not the hateful extremists we give time to
It always makes people think about Jesus, Praise Him when a movie is made Like this, though in decades since there has been nothing, but in France singer Pascal Obispo done a stage play in French Language Dix commandments, which is 10, which Like this is a musical an i Like it very much an i heard an English stage version was supposed to be done in United States, with Celine Dion singing, though i have no heard if it has been as successful as as France.
I was disappointed I wanted to see them and how they shot the scene on top of the trade centers. I thought they were going to go there when they were doing that number in Lincoln Center because it was the same number and then they didn’t

Ill go. I grew up loving this film
Thank you for this! I added a link to this video at my Merrell Jackson tribute site. It's a rarity to see behind the scenes of something 50 years ago!
Found Godspell late in life. Thank God!

This was one of the very first pieces of lost media I ever searched for

Not based on the Gospel of Matthew, but on the Gospel of Luke. Some of the parables on the movie are found only in the Gospel of Luke.

It's leaps and bounds better than Jesus Christ Superstar. Many cross over hits prove it.
