I feel the same. But I think maybe it's not so much we forget but life happens and we grow and we learn and evolve. We find or the art finds its way back into our lives whether to help us see how we have come along in our journeys or to teach us new lessons.
This album is so underrated, it's criminal. The atmosphere it conveys and emotional depth in it is unparalleled, I've yet to find an album that resonates with me like this. It's murky, cold, desolate, yearning, yet conveys just enough hope to be believable, and human. What a gift, deepest thanks Patrick.
Right?! It's odd how we often forget that artists are humans too. Yeah, some produce their most "astonishing" work while depressed or going through struggle, and then we don't like them ad much when they are better cause we connected to their depressive side. Similar to listening to the old Cat Power stuff. Unless you've experienced depression and struggle, you may not understand why, but I completely feel your comment. At the end of the day they are humans too and we need to remember that...
This is pure and raw, brilliant songwriting. Can’t teach teach this production either, brilliantly original, still never heard anything as good as his first two albums.
Sometimes it's in the darkest of the artist's life that they produce some of what stands as the most authentic of their repertoire. Case in point Cat Power, Sharon Van Etten, Tori Amos, etc. This music is the reflection of a very sensitive soul and although it would be great to have material like this, it's also good to see them evolve as people, the people behind their craft. Love Patrick.
Yes but this was also his horribly depressive phase..to be honest, he was miserable inside and out. He is so much happier now...and I'd take that any day ❤
if Morrisson and Bowie had a lovechild this guy would be it! I am totally enamored with him...such passion...dark melodic flavoring. I haven't listened to him before....but I certainly will now! *****five stars*****
Although it seems unfair to the artist and his later work, I can't help but feel that this is his magnum opus. It is no less than a perfect neo-romantic suite of beautifully written and produced songs and lyrics that would not appear foreign to Keats, Byron or Shelley. The topics of striving for freedom and its cost, of seeking, finding and losing love, entangled with the landscape of Cornwall, the imagery of pilgrimage, nature, birds, ships, autumn storms, the sea, it is so meticulous and exquisite and yet utterly heartfelt. One of the finest works of British music in the 21st century or ever and there is nothing comparable in this vein, to my mind, but for PJ Harvey's White Chalk and I Inside the Old Year Dying albums. Either hold up against Schubert's Winterreise.
this video, this song, this voice are magical, they touch something deep inside.. but besides that.. I have to say it... Patrick, you have a gorgeous body
2020, after 10 years I'm discovering Patrick AGAIN and omg how could I forget about him

He’s not been around for 10 years but saw a live video of him from last year so think that’s changing

I should state that i am back here listening after many years and that i love Patrick's music.
When I was 15 I would have given anything to be him. I miss the old Patrick, musically, but I'm glad he's happy now.

A fantastic, beautiful song, and a wonderful voice. One of my absolute favourites. And its just as good live as recorded. Simply beautiful.
I wish his music would still be as raw and pure as back then. his recent stuff is still beautiful but I think it sounds too "clean".
ZornAllein yes, we need satanic and dark music xd
Agreed

Totally agree! Do not like the new stuff -- all that saccharine makes me nauseous!
pure sex!
wow he's unhealthily skinny...
That’s what normal humans looked like before 70% of the population became overweight.
Patrick has gained a bit of weight since then. He's definitely not that skinny anymore :)
Always found this video ridiculous. Anyway the song is beautiful though I prefer the demo version.
No, we're just used to everyone being obese.
