Description:
Otomo Kyoichi works at an advertising company. He has an indecisive personality. Even though he is married, he repeatedly has affairs. One day, a man appears in front of Kyoichi. The man is Imagase Wataru. Wataru graduated from the same university as Kyoichi. It's the first time they have met since Kyoichi graduated. Wateru currently works for a jack of all trades agency that does anything for their customers. He is sent by Kyoichi's wife to investigate whether Kyoichi is having an affair. Wataru tells Kyoichi that he has liked him for the past 7 years. He also tells Kyoichi that he wants to have a sexual relationship with him and in return, he won't tell his wife about his infidelity.

Things that I loved about the story (books and movie)
1. The characters are human. Sometimes, we hate them because they're selfish and coward, some others, we feel them deeply because they're vulnerable and still choose to love
2. The struggles of being in love and bit realizing it, and even when doing so, not being able to be brave and fully commit
3. losing and realizing the extension of the lost the second it happened
4. Making decisions is not easy, but once you do it is way better than go doing things randomly or by fear
In the book, they end up together. In the movie, we just get the happy ending by making O wait for I. I thought that was fair. After all, I was waiting a long time. It is good that I gets to be patient and committed for once
Guys in the books (there are 2) they end up happily together
I saw the movie before my second book arrived and I was so sad at the ending so when my boom came I was like “Wait hol- up?” at the ending, also happy tho

ah I feel Wataru''s pain all the more ...i cried for him throughout this film...i hope they make a followup to show them being together since both of them were almost on the same frequency towards the end
They end together in the book. But it's not that much different.
They be like "idk when we'll break up. Idk when he'll bring a girl back in. And idk when he'll run away again." Both of them getting hurt and loving another.
But they said "I want to make it work with you"
In the end he falling in love with him. its sad how can someone waiting so many years or still love someone one way I never meet someone like them

I never doubted Imagase's deep/unwavering love for Otomo, who took a while to realise his love for Imagase, much to his grave regrets. Sad love story with an open ending............
Their love was so toxic but they were truly in love
The opening scene in this MV tore my heart out, when I watched the movie. I couldn't believe it. Devastating.

The part when they first break up really hurt tbh. When Imagase confronts Otomo about Tamaki, and says he isn't good for him and then Otomo says he agrees they should break up because he feels “Imagase is hurting” bc of him. Like he loves/cares about Imagase enough to acknowledge how he's not really good for him and is hurting him by his ways BUT not enough to actually change himself to be better for Imagase. T_T

I think Kyoichi and Imase will meet again in a few years after the ending.
The same thing happens because the music played at the ending is the same as the music played at the opening.

I read the manga they meet again and both fell in love again. Kyoichi even gave a ring to imagase.

Since y’all asked me to rant here’s a mini:
So at the end Otomo finally accepts that he’s inlove with Imagase and instead of being half in and half out like he has always been in their relationship and in every other relationship he has had he decides to put 100.
When Imagase asked him to break up with tamari he agrees but imagase doesn’t believes him and leaves the next morning. I mean a few minutes ago Otomo was saying he loves Tamaki and is going to marry her and yet there he is in bed with his ex agreeing to break up with Tamaki🤡 I wouldn’t believe him either.☹️
So Imagase leaves and he’s trying to move on by sleeping with someone else but he breaks down because it’s not working, he’s still thinking of Otomo, so he cries because he still cant get over Otomo.
In the end Otomo is waiting for him to come back and two things that are significant here is:
1) he washed the ash stray. (It’s like him saying it’s a new beginning now. Before he would always just put it back without washing it, like how they would always get back together without actually changing much in there relationship. But this time how he cleans it which signifies when Imagase comes back he be a better version of him self)
2. His conversation with Tamaki. When he completely breaks up with her she asks him how he knows Imagase will come back. And he has a flashback to their talk on the beach, where Imagase tells him that, “To completely love someone is to have them be your only exception”.
Otomo has always been Imagase’s only exception. So Otomo has faith that imagase will comeback.
And I think he comes back too..even if it’s to just check up on Otomo just incase he actually breaks up with Tamaki😂

It’s more of a happy open ending ‘cuz the characters got closure on their emotional/personal conflicts. It is implied Otomo will wait for his return which is almost certain judging by his personality

Heppy or sad ending?
Open ending. It depends on the viewers actually how they want to imagine the ending.
Well, for sure it is NOT a happy ending!! (Just so you don't have unwarranted expectations.) Some open endings (like ITSAY season1) leave you feeling happy and optimistic. Not this one.

I liked the books but the movie was sort of disappointing to me. The sex scenes were awful - unlike a lot of Japanese BL movies which were more erotic. The one character annoyed me with his stalking and obsessive behavior. Also, as someone else said, they changed the ending in the movie. They do end up as a couple.

But since you see at the end that they both want to be together...it feels more like it's not the end between these too. It's just not shown, but it leaves you with the assumption that they will get together again.
