This was one of the videos that convinced me to get the K87. Having used the tlm103 for a few years now, I got tired of having to fix the sibilants so wanting something more flat. I honestly can't find a fault with the Roswell mic, and handles the sibilants so naturally now. Great video, helped me make the right choice!

Having interviewed Matt from Roswell, I had to try the Mini K47 finally. It is now my new podcast mic! The clarity is really special.

Thankyou for doing this shootout. I like the sound of both mics but am leaning towards the 87 for vocals and guitars. I would love a shootout between all three K Mini mics (K47, K87 and K67X) if you get a chance! Thanks

I now have one mini k47 and two mini K87. Roswell is currently offering a mixed mini pair set of a mini 47 and mini 87 for a sale price of $710 - great buy for great mics. I love my mini 87 for voice-overs and couldn't resist picking up the mixed set.

Really love the 6k boost on the K47 but it was hard to hear because the drums were so bright in the vocal comp section.

Sérieusement, je vais me renseigner de plus près des maintenant sur ces cools Roswell :)

hello, roswell mini k87 reliable microphone? I want to buy it for myself, but I'm a man with a rough voice, I'm afraid that there are a lot of low frequencies, but I need a neutral sound. what do you think? is it worth buying k87?

The acoustic guitar sounded better on the 87. Now I'm waiting to see if you're going to do a singing voice.

Hello Chris !! always great to see you back from vacations :) I like those mics, sound decent. Impressed to see your Bass playing skills also. What about a new EP Chris Selim (instrumental), have you think about it?

Hey Filipe, lol thanks, funny thing is that I'm not even a bass player, but I will take the compliment :)
I'm actually releasing a single which is instrumental and a version in collaboration with an amazing female vocalist. The release is in September :) I'll keep you poste here on YT

For me, the 87 wins almost all of the shootouts, although it seems like the gain levels weren't identical? (i.e. the 87 was a tiny bit louder each time, which our ears usually prefer). Perhaps I'm mistaken and please let me know if the RMS/LUFs were matched and I'm wrong.
For distorted guitar, the 47 was clearly more intelligible. The midrange bump gave more presence, whereas the 87 sounded muddier (harmonics were not as well balanced). For everything else, I preferred the 87. But, I'm also biased. Been playing around with Micparts/Roswell products for a long time. I prefer the 87's 80% of the time, the AKG C12 (Colares) stuff 15% of the time, and the 47's almost only on piano and electric guitar (5%).

My ears heard some unpleasant raspiness from the k87 on the electric guitar amp. Might be the placement, too close and possibly aimed at the center of the speaker. A very good sounding mic on the other samples.

    • @MatthewIanWelch
      @MatthewIanWelch ปีที่แล้ว

@@scottjames2355 Right, I did not prefer it on guitar amp either. Sounded like there was some distortion, or maybe just the placement was too close/not ideal.

I can't recommend these mics enough for the price!
I don't own a Roswell mic but I have used donor (MXL) mics to build my own with kits from their sister company microphone-parts.com. My favorite right now uses their RK-12 capsule . I don't see Roswell utilizing that capsule but perhaps in the future. That mic gets used on everything from the outside of the Kick, vocals , electric and acoustic gtr, percussion and horns. One of the most lovely things is how great these mics take EQ.

For drums and acoustic guitar I have the same appreciations than you. Regarding vocals, I tend to prefer the 87, but I must confess at the moment I have a crappy pair of headphones. For any reason I “believe” I heard more detail and better tone, but for me very subtle difference, though. I will hear later in a better system. And for electric overdriven guitar, there I found the most noticeable difference between both, and I prefer the tone of the 47. With the 87 there were too much mids I think. Maybe the light highs boost do the trick here.
I like your bass left hand technique, Chris. Is this a new revolutionary one? 😹 I like a lot the way you play… drums. Ok, I hope I will not be banned.
