Just watched the play though. Then came here to learn how to play. Wow, this video was posted 3 years ago. This is definitely a smart way to show old videos some new love. 😉👍
I honestly scoffed at the concept of a car racing board game, but this walk through convinced me that I really want to try it! I really like the ability to influence everyone's cars, and also bet on the overall outcome. So much strategic potential.
When I first looked at the game, I didn't think I'd like it (especially since I'm already interested in getting Formula D) but after watching the video, I saw it's actually a really interesting game.
You bet! I'm very pleased to see a company taking older classics, and re-working them from the ground up to give them new life in this current gaming climate.
Bought this game last week (during the pandemic) and can already see ways to get even more use out of it, via marathon race. Even working on customizing it for added fun. Thank you for this excellent and thorough video!
Rodney, great video! I will definitely be picking this up at Gen Con on Saturday if any copies are left! Love the content. It is a great service you are providing to the community! Keep up the good work! Hope to see you at the show, but 70,000+ people will make it challenging! Safe travels, brother!
Suggestion: Add a quick “How to open the board without breaking it” section to this video. The board cut pattern is a challenge. I always greatly appreciate these “How to play” videos. Thanks!
wonderful explanation. a little quirk about this game = are the speed cards DOUBLE SIDED? rodney flipped over a few in ther tutorial in such a way. that made me think that.
If your power card doesn't indicate to be discarded (tenacious), or used at the first bet (savvy), does your power card apply for every turn? I.e., for the Aware power card, it says "At the start of your turn, move one of your cars 1 space." Does that apply to every time it's that players turn?
Under the auction section in the rule book on BGG, it states that all players must have at least one car. No where does it state that you can go without winning a car. I also didn't find anywhere in the rule book where it states that if you have no color of the car up for auction as well as wilds you can use the lowest number on any cards. These are the biggest differences I noticed when watching your video and just wanted to know where it states this. Or did you get direct clarification from the publisher? I know the rules are vague in those aspects. Thanks for all your hard work and rule clarification videos!
Check Page 7 under "Rare Auction Rules". It'll clear up the latter part of your question, and it also hints to the answer for the first part of your question (because it addresses how players could have no car after the auction). Under the Page 3 auction rules it says "all" players "must" have a card, but this is a bit unfortunate, as no player is ever forced to take a car they don't want - so you can always choose to bid a card that doesn't "count" and thereby pass on claiming a car. If you pass enough, or get outbid enough, you can end up without a car (although this is rare). And to wrap up, this was something I discussed with the publisher also, as I had similar questions to yours :) They reviewed the video and gave it the okay, so you can trust the presentation here. Thanks for the question!
I had my fingers crossed there was a new video when I got home from work! Looks fun, hopefully it comes to one of the local game cafe/lounges so I can give it a try. Thanks for another great intro to a new game!
What is the starting hand-size for the auction in a 2 player game? You mention for 3, 4, and 5 and the 2 player rules in the book don't declare a hand-size until after the auction. Do the 2 players have half the deck each to bid with?
So...Speed-8 cards, do they count as normal speed cards? What function do they serve? Between the rulebook and your explanation, if they're not treated like normal speed cards, then they don't seem to be that much different than the Car Plaque.
Great video. The way the game is explained is very intuitive and well ordered. On top of that the quality of the production is top notch with very good filming. A rare find in the word of geeks explaining games thank you
Great video. I've not looked at all the cards yet but in the auction is it possible for a tie with of the same number bid and number of cars and no wilds? If so how is this resolved? Thanks
Thanks for checking out the video. I don't have the game with me at the moment to check the cards, but if I remember correctly, this isn't possible. I'll take a look when I get back from Essen.
I like to get them up a little early. The game will be released next week at Gen Con, so people can watch the video here and then be ready to play right away!
Did you buy your copy at Target? I believe after this video was released, they also published an edition for Target that has some slightly different components, but the rules should otherwise be the same.
So can players end up with different numbers of cars after the auction? 4 players for example, will probably end up with two players each having 2 cars in the race, and two players each having 1 car. Even after paying the auction price, seems to me that the players with 2 cars in the race have a build in advantage. What am I missing? .... .. EDIT: I am going to answer my own question, before my first play of the game. I think the balance will come in the "emergent" game play. People need to actively thwart the lead car, I suspect. And make sure someone who already has one car pays enough in the auction for their second car.
I have a question about the Speed 8 cards. Are they used in the game, during the race at all? Or are they there only to determine which car is up for auction?
@@WatchItPlayed No just wasn't 100%. Was also wondering in the rules it said some cars will stall out. is that only happening when their are no more cards of that color able to be played?
@@skylerbell4049 Hey there, I'm always happy to try to help with rules questions, but if the answer is provided in the video, than I have to direct you there. You'll find an index in the description to help you find the section you might be looking for.
Can’t find written reference to the alleged rule regarding using the lower value from an unmatching card when you don’t have the either proper color or a wild strip in hand...
Tylon Taylor Every player will have one car. I might need you to type out a full explanation of your question and the game situation you are asking about.
I dont mean to poo poo on this game but I feel that a different opinion is needed just so everyone can make an informed decision. Me and my friends played this at the Dice Tower Con and in the one game we played the guy who won got NOTHING but Wild cards! So he won in a landslide in all 4 categories. After commenting on the fact that the game may be broken if a player gets a majority of wild cards during the setup a girl who was watching our game said "The exact same thing happened in our game!" This makes me think that you need to draft cards at the beginning to avoid a WILD CARD runaway winner. Hope this helps. Great Job Rodney!!!
Thanks for the kind words - and no worries on the poo-pooing :) On a personal note, I always advise caution around claims of broken strategies after one or two plays. That said, the beauty of board games is that players are always free to introduce changes to suit their particular interests.
House rules to fix this. As you get a wildcard, use 1D6 roll. * There are 2 options. Declare which one you will pick. Let us imagine that card says 4. * Option 1. Roll 1D6. If you get 4 or less, advance that number. If you roll above 4, move 1. * Option 2. Roll 1D6. If it rolls 4 or more, you move 6 and deliver 2 cards with wildcards to the discard pile. If you roll 3 or less, you car goes off track, pit stop. The next card that uses this car will return it to the road, but will move 0 forward. If track is blocked and it cannot go back to track, the it will be in the next card that it returns to road with 0 move forward. And with the next card play that car moves normally.
Just watched the play though.

Mark Levad You may want to check out Formula D before you buy this one just for comparison.
Thomas Grieve I've played a fair amount of Formula D. While it's great I think I'm aiming for something a little lighter.

Can we use the card with number 8 on it also to move the car?
Yes, absolutely!
How do you use the power 8 csrds during the game?
Hey Andy, you use these just like any other card. When played, you resolved the colored line - in this case moving one of the cars 8 spaces.
I have a question about the Speed 8 cards. Are they used in the game, during the race at all? Or are they there only to determine which car is up for auction?
