These magnificent fishes deserve more attention and study, there is still a lot we don't know about their ecology, and what we need to know for their future conservation. I lived next to the lake for 2 years, collecting and exporting Tanganyikan fishes so that aquarists in Europe and the USA could enjoy them in their own homes. I snorkled and dived to observe these cichlids up close, and even having read all the worthwhile books about them, realised how much there was still to learn. Thanks for posting.
Some Tanks look overcrowded .lf you apply the less is more principal and put lesser no of fish and more plants and driftwood they will be much happier and relaxed.
No good examples for discus aquariums. The discus lives in his habitat together with a lot of roots and plants where he can hide. Here he can only swim in open water. Maybe it looks nice in the eyes of the owner - but in the eyes of the animal ?
Far to many fish in #1. Take out half the fish and put them in another tank the same size. Same for #2. That’s hardly what I would call a “planted” tank. #3 has no plants and too many discus. Thumbs down.

Discus are really one of the majestic fishes that i can just keep watching and be at peace..
