  • The Treaty Of Waitangi must be the most sacred, revered and talked about document in New Zealand history.
5th February and around 400 Maori Chiefs have gathered as Hobson reads out the Treaty in English, with Henry Williams translating. Hobson then throws open the floor for discussion
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Written by Gavin Strawhan ( This Is Not My Life, Go Girls ), with novelist Witi Ihimaera as story consultant, Waitangi: What Really Happened is an entertaining, colourful docu-drama about the days leading up to and including the signing of the treaty, revealing the incredible story and the characters behind the treaty's creation.

imagine finding out a few days before an important decision that there was going to be a meting that had your rights and land at stake and you had a few days to arrive in person without roads or planes not knowing if you had a place to stay or food on arrival and when you arrive the meeting is over but your rights were sold regardless of enough time to have a say or even think about it. Chiefs arrived expecting to be treated like a Chief left because of lack of respect which was a custom if you were invited there was an expectation that food and shelter would be provided but instead people had to sleep on their boats

LOL don't be mad cause you saw what flag was flying at 00:05 . The Flag of The Declaration of Independence was flying lol . The flag of the meeting. Means this Treaty..was an interest to many nations because they were wondering what the Maori would do. England was competing with the Spanish Catholics, America, France..and Maori knew it. This vid is so funny.

This what happened..Missionary Henry Williams and his son Edward, both of European descent were given the task of drafting the treaty, because they knew the Māori language. But my question? Did they understand Maori?? Did they understand the infinitive dimension of Maori language, Example: the word MAURI is dimensional , does not have a single definition. Therefore, Why should there have been two NON-MAORI, be given the right to translate for Maori! e.g. "It's like a Hindu trying to teach the HAKA to Maori"

    • @JKA-vj9mh

I feel Maori have NZ, have done for a generation at least and that a good thing, but they need to hold onto it before the China man takes it for certain, English and Maori language is New Zealand, is fine but I feel chinese isn't. Signs and tv and ads and companies are steering NZ towards another Treaty. I dont wish to live long enough to see that. Eh hona ra.

And i dont smoke and drink seldom , but i know that my people , the whites, are culturekillers, its a shame that also my country wiped out cultures and tribes during our colonial time in Namibia and on other places . The fact is that the brits nearly wiped out the Maoris tribeculture and u wonder that this people suffer under alcoholism like the eskimos or the american nation.
