France's Anarchists Clash With the Police on May Day

  • This year’s election pits Emmanuel Macron, a technocrat centrist, against Marine Le Pen, a far-right anti-immigrant candidate, leaving a difficult and frustrating choice for left-wing voters. Many anarchists and anti-fascists who attended this year’s protest are choosing to abstain from voting, embracing the idea of the “ungovernable generation” - rejecting the election and the political status quo entirely.
VICE travelled to Paris to witness firsthand the anger and frustration that made this year’s May Day protest one of the most violent in years.

VICE they ought to move to Greece. The bit about the cop who supposedly raped someone is a separate and individual issue. Anyone in a Guy Fawkes mask may be antifacist but stands for a system just as oppressive.

if you want a REAL story you also need to talk to the other side (the police), if you get beaten month after month, if the burning cocktails fly at your face moths after moths you would also be angry and start hitting everyone you see. those guys in black just want to fight, if they are against the candidates of the election, they should start a own party.

Nathan Fields LMAOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO you're so fucking clueless it's insane. First of all, its the anarchists who are rioting and its been this way for hundreds of years in france (see Paris commune) and secondly, anarchism and islam are mutually exclusive. Islam advocates for a heirarchieal society while anarchism rejects any and all heirarchies. Anarchism is also opposed to any and all religion, so stop making stupid correlations between two groups having nothing to do with each other.

The fact that we need one of VICE's short and superficial movies to give a second of attention to some of my fellow citizens is a shame. Not a word of this events in our main traditional French media. Our newspapers keep giving a line or two to the "breakers", the "riots", the "damages", but above all focus on the same political promises that will turn into lies in a few weeks. They forget that in 1789, it was the "breakers" that took the Bastille and made the revolution. As Molière wrote, and as JL Mélenchon quotes : "Ce sont des tartuffes."
