- In this video, I'm going to show you how to set up a database for tracking the maintenance on your vehicles: cars, trucks, whatever. Actually, this database would work for tracking maintenance of any kind of equipment.
Marlon from Akron, Ohio (a Platinum Member) asks: I'm trying to build a database in Microsoft Access to track my company's auto fleet and the associated maintenance for each vehicle. How do you recommend I get started? I'm having a hard time picturing the tables and relationships. I love what you did with yesterday's videos about the Cascading Combo Boxes. Could I do the same thing for car make and model?
Silver Members and up get access to an Extended Cut of this video. Members are going to see how to add a regular maintenance table and track upcoming maintenance items and costs. We'll learn how to change the contents of a subform dynamically to swap between the maintenance history and upcoming items.

I made so far 2 GB database, forms, queries, reports etc.; first used a book, then expanded it into to the next level using your demos, tricks and tips. Simply the best tutorials from scratch to the expert level... Thank you!
BTW Richard, I purchased your Work Order DB seminar over a decade ago and created my own version of it and sold a copy of it to a construction company who requested some major upgrades and now it has morphed into a completely new product! A friend of mine and I are now working on a whole new version and it will include this lesson (at least a version of it!), meaning I will take this idea and expand on it to include a lot more information than what you show here. Of course you are just showing a simple concept, but the beauty of showing a simpkle concept is it sdparks an idea for more complex features for peracticle use!
Thank you Richard. Your tutorials are priceless. I can't believe it took me this long to find you.
Welcome. :)
You Sir are a star. Fabulous enthusiastic explanations that will help me design and create a database for servicing in-house equipment at work.😁 Thank you very much for sharing your knowledge. BH (England)

Hello Richard, I really enjoy your videos. I have learnt a lot from them. I have bult my first data base after watching your videos. Excellent learning courses.
Great to hear!
What a fantastic resource, thank you so much I am enjoying these tutorials :)
You're very welcome!
Great tutorial. I like to build these in C# or VB. Create the form first, which serves as the flow chart, then configure the controls and link to the database.
Cool.
We love your work instructor Richard Rost. Thanku
Welcome. I appreciate that.
Great Tutorial. it helps me a lot. I want to keep learning from your tutorials.
Thanks
What there could be is a button for the color to add the new color to the list for future use. I personally like doing that so that 5 different people don't have 5 different abbreviations of different words! I like combo boxes for that reason! So that the choices people make are always spelled the same!
Thank you so much
Welcome
Great way
Thank you very much Sir
Most welcome
Nice video!
Thanks
Thank you my instructore
Welcome
@@599CD I love this post :)
This is awesome! I decided to follow along and build this for my car history that I’ve been keeping in excel for years. I even added an ‘add new record on top’ using unbound txt boxes and a append query then an add button that runs the append query. But I’ve run into a problem. The new record I’m append wants to add the new record 264 times to the table. I’m not even sure why or how I would go about fixing it.

Nice Video , Thanks for uploading
Welcome
i love your videos. I have a question, how can I build microsoft access log to track the maintance of kiosk POS in a laundry service?
OK Creeps! Who the h311 can dislike this!!!!! This guy pours out FREE videos that are actually useful. Come on folks.
I know, right!? Then again, I do that to other peoples' vids that I don't like... especially when I can't understand them, they talk too slow, they're boring, or they teach something wrong. So... probably my competitors. :)
Hello, Great video this is exactly what I am looking for except for it to be tracked by Truck number not by customer and I can not seem to figure out how to do it.
Just use a truck number field instead of a customer field
Hello Richard, I love your work man. My question is I want to create a registration form that if a person needs to register he must have a list of 5 people. And you can't be allowed to register if you don't have the full five members. How am I going to that please help
I cover checking for a MAXIMUM number of attendees to an event in the Extended Cut for this video: 599cd.com/EventEnrollment - to do the MINIMUM like you said, it would be a very easy change.
Learning a lot from your videos. Thanks a ton. Question: I did something similar to you in this video, I attached a continuous form to my boat form so I could see all the service done for that boat. Within my service form, I have an "employee name" field. When it displays in the continuous form attached to the boat, it shows as the employeeID rather than their name (which is how it is displayed on the actual service form). Is there a way to change the display of a field on a continuous form?

Is there a way to make it so end-users only see the forms? Let's say access was running on a server and The user had on their desktop a "Add Vehicle" icon. That opens up to only the form?
Yep: 599cd.com/SimpleSecurity
Wow ur grt
Hello Richard, I have been having trouble getting the Model query for the combo box to work, it asks for a parameter value ? and displays [Forms]![tblVehicle]![MakeCombo], I named my tables with a prefix of tbl. Don't know what I am doing wrong, Yes! I watched the Cascading Combo Boxes video. Thanks

@@599CD I figured it out, I had tblvehicle instead of frmVehicle. Many thanks.
So I have a question for you I am a gold member on your web site is there a way to access the TH-cam member content or am I limited to the web site only.
If you signed up on my website, you have to watch stuff on my website. I have zero control over TH-cam memberships. See 599cd.com/TH-camVme
Hi Sir, We have to submit Bank Management Database (Basic) in the next 2 weeks. It's real pain in a** because I don't have enough time to study Access from scratch.
Sir, my question is how can we put conditions in form and how can we pass the value by entering the specific field in another form?

Sir, In my salary database, I have an append query that updates records in payroll table from salary table whenever I run this query. But it appends duplicate records also. Is there any way that automates the entire task of finding duplicates and delete them from original table. I want to avoid manual option because this database is used by novice users, who do not know the handling of tables and queries etc.. Thanks in advance.
Yeah I'm sure it will be possible to find duplicate records first but without seeing what you got there it's impossible for me to tell you what's going on
Great! However all my vehicles have same services but due at different miles and/or months. How do I set up?
599cd.com/Ask
How I count deductions if the equipment down?
Mark the item "down."
great tutorial but i cant find your template i would like to see it to go along with your video
Link is right in the description: 599cd.com/Vehicle
Followed video and everything works just fine except that the maintenance history does not change when I change vehicle. I've gone through the video several times and cannot figure out why the maintenance history doesn't change. It is like the form/subform relationship doesn't exist. Figured it out. It did not create the link between the master field and child field.
There you go. It's always the little things. Access (programming in general) is very detail specific.
Hi sir can I ask for help?
Can I get this download file? could you please give me the price ?
Vehicle Maintenance: 599cd.com/Vehicle - Gold Membership is $9.99/mo.
😂23:16 you didn't select the VehicleID
Yep. You're right. I missed it in that instance... however just watch... half the time I select multiple fields there are usually one or two that DON'T change.
"CAMADO!! ... "Camado...???" HAHAHA
It happens. I once typed my own name wrong in an Excel class (live) and didn't catch that it was up on the screen for most of the class. At the end, people were leaving and saying to me "goodbye, Mr. Root." After like 3 people said that to me, I was like WTF? Didn't realize what I did until everyone had left and I was cleaning up. LOL
The combobox name thing is seriously annoying.🤯 It would make live so much easier if the wizard would ask for a name.
Agreed
