If the murders go back that far, there are probably many more victims that they don’t know about.
I imagine there are also many more victims they DO know about but knowing and proving are two different things.

Serial killers usually start killing in their early 20s.there are definitely more victims out there. It won't surprise me if the families sued the department due to the police chief who obstructed the investigation because of his own history with sex workers!

My guess is no one would know, he probably acted quite normally. Men are deceitful. Very. Not saying all are sick killers - but look at the number of prostitutes, there is a huge market. Who are the customers? Our grandfathers, our fathers, our brothers, our uncles, our cousins, our husbands, our sons, our grandsons. Do we know about it? Mostly the answer is a big no. Why don´t we know about it? Because they don´t act weird around us and they don´t tell us all they do when they are not with us.

A squirrel died under my shed that I use for an office. Blow flies and decomposing smell was horrendous.

I think it was computer evidence and maybe trace evidence found at the house. Bodies or body parts were recovered decades ago but not linked to Heuermann until recently.

The Chief of Police was a perv . They knew each other . Name is Burke , I believe.
Several reasons:
1. Cops don't care about sex workers who are reported missing or found dead.
Cops tracked down Heuerrman in 2022 using witness evidence THAT SAT IN THE CASE FILE FOR A DECADE. Back in 2010 when Amber Costello disappeared, her roommate described the man he suspected--Amber's last john, a huge hulking man with 'an empty gaze'. The roommate also picked out the suspect's EXACT vehicle, a Chevy Avalanche, from police vehicle photos. Cops at the time did nothing to investigate.
In 2022 a task force was set up--they found the suspect/vehicle description in the file, ran it thru historical vehicle records...& got a hit in a likely neighbourhood. Via surveillance, they then laid eyes on the vehicle's owner: the hulking 6'4" monster Heuermann with the empty eyes.
The same police work could've been done a decade ago. Even several years ago cops could've used forensic familial dna to track him down, because they have DNA evidence from the crime scenes.
2. Heuermann chose his victims carefully. They were all sex workers--in part, because cops don't care about sex workers, but also because many sex workers are estranged from loved ones or only keep in sporadic contact. They're less likely to be reported missing, & less likely to be investigated by cops if they are reported missing.
3. Heuermann looks 'normal' ie professional white guy, & hid behind a facade of respectability as most serial killers do. There are 25 - 50 active serial killers in the US right now, unidentified by cops but committing horrific crimes. They utilize the facade of respectability to successfully avoid scrutiny.
4. He committed his crimes when his family was away, to avoid witnesses. He clearly planned meticulously so there would be virtually no evidence or suspicion.
I think the man has a massive count.. I also believe his wife should also be seriously investigated after people have come out talking about him and her

There is a totally different police task force assigned to this within three past 2 years or so. The previous police who handled this were corrupt and involved with prostitution parties. This would have been solved years ago if they weren’t so corrupt. The police chief and Rex went to the same prostitution parties allegedly….so theres that. Plus DNA has advanced since then.

5. Have differences in specific regions of the brain such as fewer connections between the ventromedial prefrontal cortex where feelings of empathy and guilt are processed. It is also found that there are abnormalities in the amygdala where fear and anxiety are mediated.
6. They verbalize without emotion. Even when describing their crimes and basic human needs (food, water, money) they are incapable of feeling and expressing normal human emotions.
7. Evidence supports the affirmation that psychopaths commit more crimes.
8. There is no cure for psychopathy.
