    Thank you for the great advice. At 71,still paying half my wages in spousal support l will apply your reasonable and common sense advise to my counsel. Thank you..

    On the other side, if a spouse gave up their career aspirations for their spouse, then suddenly, after 30 years of marriage, was asked for a divorce, the need that support.

    Here is a fallacy in your logic about the implication of retirement. As a general rule, all marital assets are split 50/50 and the ex's investment income would be equal to my investment income. Therefore, if I elect to retire, me and my ex are experiencing relatively the same income/cashflow. So the law should quit making excuses for women and hold them accountable for either (a) living within the means of their investment income or (b) require them to figure out how to make whatever additional money they need to live whatever lifestyle they choose. Otherwise you are incentivizing women to leave marriages and not have to work for the rest of their lives.
