This was one of the lucky ones that had its roof repaired when needed. It's all about the roof in abandoned places. Once that's gone the whole building has gone
The servants here were actually looked after pretty well. The servants wing of the house is sheltered from the worst of the weather (the house is on top of a hill) & each of the servants bedrooms was carpeted & had a fireplace, they even had their own ‘housemaids sitting room’. Of course nothing like what the family lived in but not bad for the times.
You used to be able to tour Teddy Roosevelt ‘s house like that but so much got stolen in later years that they take you through with a guide in small groups.
