As someone who has grown up in both Concord and Walnut Creek, I’m glad you showed The White Sky and subsequently placed my order. I can’t wait to see what is different and similar between what Mimi Plumb documented to my childhood in the 2000s in the same area.

If you don't already have it in your collection...pick up Avedon at Work In the American West. I just finished reading through it and it is a great behind the scenes work by Avedon on this project and the images Avedon created were AMAZING using large format camera.
Just picked up Saul Leiter's Retrospective and a book about Anthony Hernandez.
Won't stop investing in art/books, thanks for the inspiration Matt!
Wow, Linn Gardens is about a mile across the water from my house...I would be able to see it if the hill weren’t in the way! We have driven round to Cove many times, and didn’t know those gardens were there. Its a shame the old man has passed and we can’t go say hello. I will buy the book though.

just in case anyone finds it interesting...the director for smashing pumpkins 1979 music video based his vision of it on his experience growing up in Walnut Creek, ca...just like mimi plumbs book. probably around the same time.

If anyone is at all interested in photography one of the first books they should purchase is "Shadow and Substance. W. Eugene Smith - The Life and Work of an American Photographer." by Jim Hughes.
I don’t know if you are familiar with lust for life by Ed van der Esken , I can highly recommend that photo book , keep on shooting.
