Very good content, well said. I think one other reason some people don’t come back is traumatic experiences - if they had negative experiences as a child and found a way to “escape” and go to the diaspora, chances of them returning are very slim.
Am returning. Am in Canada 🇨🇦 and after being here for over 25 years I long for the village. I would not wish to die in this minus 40 degrees (Celsius)I miss my folks even though things have changed, home is always best. The peace and quiet of my village is way better than the "soft" life here.
Short and sweet videos, direct to the point and very informative,I’m in the US and always have a plan to return home once my kid completes college,I’ve been here 12 yrs and I feel like I’m done,my body is here but my mind is in Kenya.
Here in Germany we work like slaves and this is for everyone, Germans are known for their hard working they live to work while other countries like France or Italy work for a living. 14:10 Am going back home in the village after retirement but I still have some years to work and build a home, I have already bought 2 acres of land and I can’t wait to start building, home is the best 😊
The video was very informative and I decided to subscribe twice. You be talking about me in your videos but I will remain positive today. All the reasons you gave, have made me be stuck in the US for 25 years.
I can’t see myself retiring in the US because this country is just for working. Like you said we’re one paycheck away from homelessness or one disease away from losing everything. I love my homeland Kenya and that’s where I see myself in my old age.
Great Video Odidi. There are many people that I know who we came together in US as students in early 90's and are not interested in coming back to Kenya. In fact one of my friend about two months ago told that he never tells people that he will not return to Kenya but he does not want to retire in Kenya because of some of the reasons you highlighted. Personally I am probably not retiring in Kenya but I visit often, have invested in properties but you never know, I may change my mind and that is why I do invest. Thanks for the video Odidi.
How i wish you can put this sense into my sister's head. She and hubby left for america leaving their 2 kids behind with my parents in 2014, our mother passed awaylast yr and now kids are in the hands of my father. We keep telling them to invest here and come back but they have done nothing here all those yrs.
Your videos are hot 🎂!!! Another brilliant video. Nice to see the tots as always. The doors upstairs and garage door are so nice!!! Usisahau kufanya video ya kiamsha kinywa (breakfast food...all the varieties, except for the breakfast cereal) Asante sana and have a lovely day.
Health system (esp in rural communities) and finding an equivalent job (not equivalent pay) are almost impossible. I don’t know if you mentioned the children that we have out here in diaspora. There is a distance factor since this would be like in my example American children and not Kenyan children, would you always be flying back & forth for family events or miss out on them? Wherever you decide to settle, one has weigh what’s important for them and make realistic plans.
Thanks for this video. You mentioned different reasons why Kenyans don't move back home from diaspora which is some can't afford to move back permanently. For me I still have huge student debts to pay off so I cannot just up and move without a good and trusted payment plan. Then I feel I still need to have invested well enough for me to think of moving back home permanently. But my hope and prayer is that I will retire in Kenya and preferably in Mombasa even if I was born and raised in Nairobi, but I plan to still retain my US citizenship if I end up moving back to Kenya. For now I will keep visiting once or twice a year until I am ready God willing. And you are very right about feeling like you don't belong cause even when I visit annually for like a few weeks I still miss coming back here and at first I didn't understand why but now I do. Thanks again for your insights on this topic.
Always refreshing listen to you. It's like you and I think alike. That example of having to bribe and beg government officials for services they are already paid for is nauseating and what makes me ambivalent of returning to Kenya.
My take - the *"rule of law"* is operational in the USA. The constitution is more often than not - UPHELD even by individuals in authority. For those who have resided in the U.S for years , then return home and witness what {for instance} just occurred in the last 2 months or so, {mainly in the nation's capital during the past Gen-Z protests} - one is bound to suffer from a cardiac arrest.😰 Nowhere in the globe is perfect! However there are some places that are made as best to raise a young family in - comparison to others or another. You've done well for yourself with your young, lovely family. Well done! 👏
My goal is to build an income of stable Investment that can bring me about 3000 Dollars per month or atleast 2000. When i achieve such income in kenya i will move yesterday. Im gearing towards that and i want to actively retire before im 40
Well sad in US diaspora people take up habits especially that change health so obesity , hypertension, diabetes and are conditioned to biweekly doctor visits. Once you have kids in US Life comes at you fast!,, BY the way affirmative action (black favors) ended
What type of work can guarantee you a decent living(housing, health, education and family) in the US, like, let's say I'm planning on coming to the US, what skills should I have?
Kenyans must be the only immigrant group that thinks of returning back. You rarely hear Asian Americans talk about returning back. Why leave one of the richest countries in the world and relocate back to a poor, corrupt, banana republic country?
Because at the heart of it, we know our land and people is better in overall terms. The West may be developed and is full of capitalism but the individualism is on another level. Very cute throat and inhumane because it's all about money. There is more to life than just money and "development" - as defined by the west
Kenya is more advanced than Uganda, but you will be surprised how much attachment we have to our poor country, I personally have never felt I belong in Canada for even a single day, been here 15yrs now with 6 in the UK Prior but have struggled every single day to return home, can’t even sleep for more than four hours at a time🤔

That is entirely possible!!! Good luck!
Diaspora is very convenient and comfortable
YES!! it can be!

Forgive my ignorance! Ps: your home looks awesome.
Thank you :) We live in Karateng..in western Kenya!

Let's start by knowing what skills you have already.
I agree with Mark..begin with skills
What have you planned for Odidi and Otindi's school, have the they started?
Thats coming up in todays video
I couldn't agree more with everything you have said, keep these videos coming, very informative 👍
School is one among big thing that trouble some of diaspora. Especially those who choose to realocate in rural.
