Chicos, esta ópera fue escrita aproximadamente en 1876 por George Bizet y quien canta aquí esta versión es el señor Samuel Ramey, uno de los bajos más gloriosos del género. Los autores de Freddy la usaron mucho después y tomémoslo como un homenaje y que a causa de eso, chicos como mi hijo, conocieron ésta ópera.
For once, Escamillo is a rock star, as he should be! This scene should be a showpiece. Most of the singers who sing the role of Escamillo simply don't understand these things. The role must be flashy and full of life. When Ramey sang this role at the Met in 1987 (This scene is from that production.), one reviewer, who had obviously seen a lot of lackluster Escamillos, remarked, "At last, Escamillo is no longer the dullest man in Spain!"
Isn't this a matter of the costuming and acting directions, something the performer doesn't choose? Still yes. Why aren't Escamillos all swinging red capes and wearing flashy costumes.

¡Señor tómeme confesado! Qué obra artística más exquisita. Aún me asombran las dotes musicales del Gran Señor Frederico Fazzbearisto Borbón El II. Realmente una obra que proviene de su más sincera buena intención de acomodar a los niños con un delicioso banquete de pan acompañado con salsa de tomate y queso encima. Una maravilla.

As originally portrayed by Merimée, Jose was no innocent. He had fled his home territory because he had murdered a friend over a game of pelota. Carmen was a mean little tart. Bizet realized no one would watch an opera about such characters. To Carmen, he restored the character of Zemfira, whom Merimée had plagiarized from Pushkin's "Gypsies". Jose he turned into a fairly naïve small-town recruit from Navarre. Thus, from a fatal interaction of sleazeballs, the story turned into one of the tragic collision of a hurricane with a shoreline tree Escamillo was almost wholly Bizet's creation. His salient characteristic is his flamboyant conceit, and I suspect Bizet was caricaturing one or more real, live popinjays of his acquaintance.
Ramey always had the wood element prominent in his body creating that sense of a wood block being struck cleanly. His features rather carved and body lean. The overall effect was sexy, theatrical and panther like. His voice always worked so well in the bass-baritone roles literally meeting every challenge. A great entertainer.
No one lived that role as intensely as Samuel Ramey, he gave a real show! He looked like a real Spaniard. Just as there will be no other Mefistofele, he is really Samuel Ramey!

When you can convey the character to your audience by your acting and if your singing matches the character, the character becomes alive to the audience and the auditence ususally reponds in a very, very positive manner, just ask Maria Callas. Simply the most enjoyable version you will ever come across.
Opera de Georges Bizet (francés) una de las primeras no cantadas en italiano sino en francés, basada en una historia real que Bizet oyó relatar mientras vivió en España, la lírica es fantástica tanto que ha servido de cortina en muchas series televisivas. Espectacular música junto con la habanera en esta misma obra.
I saw Samuel Ramey twice live! First time was at HGO in the role of Mephistopheles in Faust at HGO. He was the highest paid opera singer the theater had ever pad any one at that time. I believe it was in the early 90s. Then again in the 2000s at a recital with Flicka at the Galveston Opera House. Amazing artist and voice!

Una corrida de toros envuelve muchísimos elementos culturales y artísticos en expresiones puras y sensibles. El problema es que muy pocos están dispuestos a saber apreciarlo.
Sevilla ,la enigmática, seductora y hermosa ciudad que mas ha inspirado a autores de operas como Bizet con Carmen , Rossini con El barbero de Sevilla, Mozart con Las bodas de Fígaro y Don Giovanni a Verdi con La fuerza del destino o a Beethoven con Fidelio . Magníficos autores magnificas opera y magnifica ciudad.

La expresividad de Agnes Baltsa es única. De todas las intérpretes de Carmen, me quedo con ella, por encima de la belleza de Elina Garanca, ni siquiera el prestigio de María Callas compite con la profundidad del personaje con Agnes. Incluso en esta escena en la que toda la atención recae sobre Escamillo y el baile, desde el rincón Agnes le da un brillo especial al personaje, con su disimulada molestia por el alboroto que causa Escamillo
Agnes e sla mejor ademas se color natural sin necesidad de impostar la voz oscura de las mezzo, agnes utiliza voz de pecho en varios pasajes ninguna mezzo lo hace ni la Berganza que es buena pero la de agnes es superior. ninguna mezzo a cantado la habanera con ese color de pecho que hace agnes es bellismo.
Una de las operas más maravillosas que se han escrito , la.musica es de lo mejor y es una ópera ligera y fácil de asimilar para los que no han visto ópera . Una joya por siempre y una de mis favoritas !

Ramey at his best. He demonstrates here that Escamillo really requires not a baritone, nor a bass-baritone, but a basso-cantante. I saw this performance when it was originally broadcast on PBS in 1987. Agnes Baltsa had the acting chops for Carmen, but at best only half the voice. And long before his bout with leukemia, Jose Carreras had wrecked his previously rich, beautiful lyrico-spinto tenor by pushing it into spinto and dramatic roles. Lyric tenors can sing dramatically with good technique. Bjorling's voice, for example, was medium-sized at best -- perhaps not even that, based on the recollections of some email correspondents who heard him live; AND it wad doubtless smaller than that of Carreras. But Bjorling's ringing resonance made his voice fully audible in the Old Met at all times and regardless of the orchestration, said his friend, the splendid baritone Robert Merrill. Note as well that Bjorling could increase that ringing sound and concurrent dramatic quality, AND taper into lovely lower dynamics, virtually at will. Carreras' technique never approached that level. So when he took on heavier roles, he simply PUSHED his voice; to the point where his previously beautiful tone dried, becoming hard and forced; AND his acuti became thinner and more wobbly than the rest of his compass.
Carreras was a wonderfully gifted lyrico-spinto tenor. But he never had sufficient technique, as Bjorling did, to sing dramatically without pushing and forcing,
I was so fortunate to hear Robert Merrill playing escamillo at the macerata sferisterio if I remember rightly 1975 along with Grace Bumbry and Franco corelli. the best Carmen of all time.

No sabria tampoco que 200 años mas tarde un juego de terror popularizaria todavia mas la cancion y la obra.

Magníficos autores magnificas opera y magnifica ciudad.
Mas que un gran barítono y bajo es un actor formidable este señor

La expresividad de Agnes Baltsa es única. De todas las intérpretes de Carmen, me quedo con ella, por encima de la belleza de Elina Garanca, ni siquiera el prestigio de María Callas compite con la profundidad del personaje con Agnes. Incluso en esta escena en la que toda la atención recae sobre Escamillo y el baile, desde el rincón Agnes le da un brillo especial al personaje, con su disimulada molestia por el alboroto que causa Escamillo
Teresa Berganza es la reina de las Carmen!!! Maria Ewin g tiene una excelente version igual que Bumbry.

Agnes e sla mejor ademas se color natural sin necesidad de impostar la voz oscura de las mezzo, agnes utiliza voz de pecho en varios pasajes ninguna mezzo lo hace ni la Berganza que es buena pero la de agnes es superior. ninguna mezzo a cantado la habanera con ese color de pecho que hace agnes es bellismo.
Una de las operas más maravillosas que se han escrito , la.musica es de lo mejor y es una ópera ligera y fácil de asimilar para los que no han visto ópera .

Ramey at his best. He demonstrates here that Escamillo really requires not a baritone, nor a bass-baritone, but a basso-cantante.
I saw this performance when it was originally broadcast on PBS in 1987. Agnes Baltsa had the acting chops for Carmen, but at best only half the voice. And long before his bout with leukemia, Jose Carreras had wrecked his previously rich, beautiful lyrico-spinto tenor by pushing it into spinto and dramatic roles.
Lyric tenors can sing dramatically with good technique. Bjorling's voice, for example, was medium-sized at best -- perhaps not even that, based on the recollections of some email correspondents who heard him live; AND it wad doubtless smaller than that of Carreras. But Bjorling's ringing resonance made his voice fully audible in the Old Met at all times and regardless of the orchestration, said his friend, the splendid baritone Robert Merrill.
Note as well that Bjorling could increase that ringing sound and concurrent dramatic quality, AND taper into lovely lower dynamics, virtually at will.
Carreras' technique never approached that level. So when he took on heavier roles, he simply PUSHED his voice; to the point where his previously beautiful tone dried, becoming hard and forced; AND his acuti became thinner and more wobbly than the rest of his compass.
Carreras was a wonderfully gifted lyrico-spinto tenor. But he never had sufficient technique, as Bjorling did, to sing dramatically without pushing and forcing,
Cornell MacNeil is a baritone who performed this and honestly did it better than Ramey. But, Macneil's a Verdi baritone.
I was so fortunate to hear Robert Merrill playing escamillo at the macerata sferisterio if I remember rightly 1975 along with Grace Bumbry and Franco corelli. the best Carmen of all time.

But he makes even Carmen look dull. Aw, she's just one of a lot of gals saying they love him. (Really, I wonder why the stage instructions don't have her actually swooning. How else is Escamillo going to know she means it. It's not like she's exactly got an honest reputation.)
