Hi , thank you both for the memories, I was just behind you guys, I started on the 17th May in Irun without Plans or Guide Book just followed the arrows, got lost a couple of time, but found my way back, 95% of the time I was hiking alone no big crowd and it was peaceful very peaceful, yes the water from Baamondo to Sobrado 40k I had stream water, it was a beautiful Adventure, nothing is perfect and if you are planning a Camino just go for it and create beautiful memories, if you make a mistake you will live to tell a tale a thousand times, Buen Camino
If you're traveling with a group, apartments are a great cheap option. My group booked apartments every so often and it was as low as €10pp/night, often with multiple private rooms, full kitchens, and even free laundry.
Yesss, this is an amazing tip! We would sometimes on rest days got apartments and they go for so cheap, especially if there is more then 2-3 people! Great tip.
Thank you so very much. I really appreciate it you guys for sharing your experience. I’m 54 years old and kind of scared to do it myself but next year I will. Blessings 🙏🏼
Thank you so much for you kind words! You got this, there is always people walking you will never be alone, good luck on your Camino, we will be doing Portugese Camino next year if you wish we can arrange something that we go together or a smaller group. Buen Camino.
This was the first video of yours that I came across. Thank you for such a great and informative content. It's great that you specifically stopped at different places to show the viewer different options for food and accommodation. I really liked it, subscribed
Thank you for being here with us and thank you for your beautiful words! We wanted to show future pilgrims all the things they can expect laong the way, so im glad we were able to show that! Thank you so much.
Thank you so much for this very informative video. It has assisted me with planning my accommodation. It looks like you both are having a fantastic time. Buen Camino siguiente. 🙏
Thanks for sharing....I can't wait till I head over in a month....it was great to get an idea of 2023 prices and you guys make such a lovely couple...I was smiling through the whole 30 mins...
I compared noted between what I have experienced on the Portuguese Way and what you guys experienced on the del Norte. The Albergue are about the same price. The private Albergues and Hostels might be a bit more in Portugual. They averaged about 30 euros. Food is a bit more expense too in Portugal. Unfortunately, there is no Pilgrims Menus in Portugal … at least not below Porto.
Oh wow, thank you for info, we are thinking doing Portuguese down the road, it's nice to know those things, thank you for keeping us updated, many thanks and Buen Camino.
You should! It was one of the greatest accomplishments we have ever done! The feeling of walking every day is the best, if you feel like you can do it go for it!
Los caminos antiguos son más cortos pero más salvajes, normalmente. Las carreteras principales suelen ser mas largas y aburridas. Generalmente. Ver opciones.😊
I'll be in St Jean on the 30th of August, 2033 starting out. Walking to the bus from my house and from there we'll see, no plans, no guidebook, just go. It feels like my Camino already started a while ago. Lots to process. Hope for those days on the trail.
hi guys, how did you find walking the camino with tropicfeel shell? I've got the same backpack and wish I didn't have to buy a new one but I'm a little worried it's not a 'proper' hiking backpack :) also, do you have any experience with their shoes?
Hi. I don't an opinion re: their backpack since I didn't buy it. For the shoes, I bought their "canyon" shoes (now called "all terrain"). They had crazy advertising in FB and I fell for the hype. I got them in late 2019 and I wasn't able to use them for serious hiking since 2020 lockdowns happened in my country. TBH when I received them, I felt underwhelmed. The uppers were very thin and kinda flimsy. But then they're supposed to be quick dry, so there's that. They're not zero drop. There's quite a difference between heel & toe and it took time to get used to. I used them a lot for walking on concrete and grass - they're OK for that purpose. The grip isn't too good - I wouldn't recommend it on rough terrain. In summary, if you want a city walking shoe, it's OK. For mountains, I wouldn't recommend them. I also felt they were overpriced for the quality. I've thrown them away since the soles have worn off and the uppers got a hole on the big toe part. Also, the email that I got (since it was a crowdfunding at that time) showed that the company was based in Europe. When the shoes were shipped to me, they came from China. The courier also charged me an additional amount since he said postage wasn't included. When I bought it, it said the price included shipping, so I shouldn't have been charged extra. I was like, WTF?!
Thank you for the great video. I would have liked to know what time of the year you travelled and if you had to make reservations at some accommodations or if you can just show up and you will find something….. or could you get stuck
my vacation starts in 6 weeks. At this point I'm pretty sure I'll be taking the Northern Way. I have 16-18 days max, including flights, so I'm thinking Gijon as my starting point would be best. I know this video was posted a year ago, and I'll be lucky if either of you even see my comment, but... Any suggestions? Is the norther route good for late summer/early autumn?
What country are you speaking of dollars? American, Australian, Singaporean, Canada, New Zealand etc, etc? It helps understanding value. Thank you so much. Buen Camino.
True, everyone is coming from different parts of the world and we can't know those expenses, we just tried to show people actual budget from the trail itself.
Interested to see this as i've just got a quote for €8,158 - seriously!? That's about 200 euro per night, in a single room. I don't want to share a dorm with 20 others but I'm sure the standard of the accommodation along the way is not €200 worth.
OMG, that is outrageous!! We found hotel rooms and pension and private airbnbs for 35-70 euros, so those prices are crazy!!! Where did you got the quote from?
I can deal with any pain BUT not the itch from bedbug bites (it drives me insane). It's unavoidable and the reason why I don't want to do the Camino (unfortunately).
Hi, well we actually didn't do any planning to be honest, we just went there and started walking. We adjusted to some things quickly and learned a lot of things on day 1 and 2! Camino will show you the way is kind of true, and it did and we had no issues whatsoever, beside blisters, that was a big issue haha!

Do you suggest converting USD to Euros and carrying cash or can you get away with just using credit card at most stops?
Thank you:)
Hi im thinking of walking del norte this summer, is it possible and/or allowed to sleep in your tent along this route?

Based on her accent I’d say USD
Hi sorry for not clarifying, it is USD, hope that helps. Buen Camino.
@ellieandsenci lovely thank you.
@DavidSmith-lp5tz I'm British born living in Australia and have lived in USA so accent can be deceiving.
Pack your bag the night before you leave the albergue! That way you don't disturb other pilgrims!
This is for early birds, we never had that issue because we were always the last ones to leave it 😂😂

Weird question,... Is it considered weird to pack uneaten food from a restaurant to go?
Not done in Spain by the Spanish but, to be fair, the serving sizes aren't the super jumbo ones like North America.
I really don't know, since we would always clean our plates haha, so we never had opportunity to do so.
