    Just found your channel on TH-cam on TV. Moved to watch and cast to my TV so I can control pause and playback. I am fascinated. My husband was an outdoorsman and knew birds from flight patterns and sounds. Now I’m alone and with Covid going on this is something I really want to learn more about. So thank you for your personal comments too. It’s good to have an interesting thing to focus on.

    My heart breaks for your anxiety over Peanuts absence...I so envy the intimate relations you've cultivated w/all these feathered little fairies! The singular but somewhat similar experience I had was w/a tiny screech owl who inhabited the library of our local Schlitz-Audubon Society. Injured & no longer able to fend for himself, his survival rested upon the trust he had in his human friends to provide his nourishment. We'd named him Twig. Though one of the most minute "birds of prey", he nonetheless had a formidable grip for such tiny stature. It was my honor & true joy to volunteer there in whatever capacity was needed.

Then I realized that he has been gone for 3 weeks! He would even let me pet him! And I got to see him nest on my porch in the birdhouse! I truly miss him!

    The opening photo of Peanut is adorable! What a gorgeous view of the snow-covered "hills" and surroundings. I love the various ways you feed your little friends (3:30). The Woodpecker is so cute and I LOVE the tree with all the lichen on it. What was Peanut eating around 4:30? LOL Feisty little Hatch wasn't being intimidated by the Pine Siskin! Awww! How very sweet that you brought Sweet Girl some boiled egg. I love that she took a bite or two, then took it all with her, my guess is to a "secure" place to eat it without having to guard from others. I just love the personal relationship you have with so many of the birds, if not most! LOL Chased by a couple of Pine Siskins! It made me think of places where Monkeys chase people, acting like thugs, and steal their "stuff." So very sweet how the pair sat on your hand to share a meal your generously provided. So sad you had that ominous feeling about Peanut and not seeing him again. I hope you are wrong! ROFL Snowed...just enough to tick you off! Heartbreaking - "I don't want to lose my Hermoso too." I so enjoy your videos and narrations. It always comes across as extremely knowledgeable in a very personal/casual way. - down-to-earth. Thank you for all your hard work, and sharing it! I now think of you each time I see or hear a Blue Jay.

I bought a house in May and had a tube feeder and realized that the Cardinals I love didn’t like it, nor do Jays. I added a hopper style feeder with peanuts and I finally have seen Blue Jays in my yard! They are so cute!!! A woodpecker had been coming around, but I am unsure if it is a Downy or Hairy Woodpecker.

    Thanks for bringing Red-Breasted Nuthatches and bona fide Black-capped Chickadees into view for the rest of North America. We don't get Black-capped Chickadees in the Scioto Valley, where I'm from, but we have plenty of Carolina Chickadees, which look really similar to the Black-capped Chickadees, only smaller. The nearest place I would have to go to see them and Red-Breasted Nuthatches would be the West Virginia Mountains. I guess they stick to either higher elevations or cooler climates. Also, sorry to hear about Peanut's departure. I hope Hermoso doesn't have to go as well.

    I get many of the same birds coming to my feeder, with the exception of gray jays (I'm near sea level, grays like higher altitudes) and blue jays...we have Stellar's jays here. The pine siskins and nut hatches are accustomed to me now and hardly bother to move away when I refill the feeder. I also see a lot of spotted towhees and the occasional varied thrush, and others I haven't made the effort to identify yet.

    I'm sorry to hear about Peanut - he could be back.
    How far do Blue Jays nest from each other? Is it similar to Grey Jays?
    If the birds are on alert - maybe a predator is nearby?
    Maybe he's out finding a mate - hope he's okay.
    Glad you're seeing many of the regulars :)

      Aphexon How much time? One month, 6? One year? I have about 10-15 BJs on my feeders but I don’t think they will ever trust me bc Some people around here (hot Florida) are kind of mean to birds, especially Jays. And I am wondering if it is a bad Idea for them to start trusting humans in populated areas? I fear they will get too close to a Mean Human and get hurt?? I saw a baby squirrel with a BB gun shot hole on her back leg: URGH!!!!! Mean People Suck! On a good note, the jays see me and they watch me looking for those PN. They are so Smart!

    I just wanted to pass something on to you that I found unusual and cute. I just put an humming bird feeder out this past weekend and I am waiting for them to notice it when I watched an wood pecker, the little cute ones that have the red speck on the back of their heads . He wanted to taste the necter but was having trouble so he pushed a suet feeder I have close to the humming bird feeder so he could drink from it. I pushed the suet feeder back in it,s place on the close line and the next morning I saw the little guy do the same thing. I guess he likes the taste. Have you ever heard of a woodpecker liking to drink the Hummingbird necter?

  • @rhondawentzell6959
    @rhondawentzell6959 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Why, when Blue Jays feed at a hanging feeder, they eat seeds & then throw a quantity out & around on the ground? Are they consciously distributing seeds for the other birds...or are they throwing away unwanted seed?
    I’m using a higher quality corn mix of millet & sunflower & a few other types of seed.

    Love the videos- just be a little more careful with your editing, your voice cuts out and then comes back in a couple times throughout the video (at 8:30 and 11:40 for example). Keep it up though, always love these calming bird deep-dives!
