Pretty ballsy to reach into the machine with the safety gaurd down. Aside from that, great vid. It definitely makes me miss my old letterpress job and running these old machines.
I've ran CP's, Kludge's, many others both platen and cylinder... ...but the Windmill is my favorite. letterpress, where the rubber meets the road for a true craftsman.
As the last few Heidelbergs aged out of existence, the standing joke was to use a magic marker on the safety guard that reads ORIGINAL HEIDELGERG and write "THE" in front of it! :)

This is a Heidelberg T, windmills are generally found in fields, I ran one when 17, I'm now 61 and sometimes still run one, it's not feeding because the sucker bar has too much tilt, less tilt needed for thicker stock.
An obvious "Die-Cut" or "Fold Crease" job as there is no ink on the rollers. I ran one in the late 70's and also a Miele-V50. Also operated a Mergenthaler Linotype.
Zulfikar Abdulaziz It very popular and necessary in print & binders companies. Many have been converted to foil stamping and widely used for die-cutting. I ran one for 15 years, great press.

You are right there is no ink on the press. The Platten is mainly used for embellishing work these days. Things like die cutting, foiling and numbering. All the guy in this video is doing is running paper through the press with no impression.
Aside from the frightening lack of guard on the flywheel? It looks like he's making a great play on the impression handle but not actually doing anything with it. At one point I even thought it looked like it was already 'out' when it should have been in but can't be totally certain.
Operator had the safety bar in down position, then reached for clutch arm and reached across to check the hold-down latch lock. Very unsafe could have knocked his broke his arm when the "windmill" arm came around.
If i reached over without the saftey lock up I would get canned not to mention running that slow> I have seen first hand what it looks like when somebody gets their face slapped with the grippers . 20 years later it still has the nick name of numb skull knocker.

I ran one of these in the 80s. Always loved the CLANK WHOSSSE sound it made. These were patented around 1890, I think.

Hard to believe the type of machine I used on a daily basis in the 70's is now a museum piece...:-(

Why is the impression released when the machine is running..and why sometimes the impression playup
I ran one of these for about 5 years. Does anyone know where I can get a job in Virginia running one of these ?

Can anybody spot the mistake at 0:16 seconds! Lovely looking machine though.
