    Those forstner bits are great! You should try some from the austrian brand FISCH. Cheers Franc

    Well its the day after Christmas and the year is 2020 and about to go into 2021. I just found this video of you cutting some wood with new drill bits.
    Bormax 2.0 , 3, anyway have you ever considered saving the shavings and using them when shipping things in boxes? Like stuffing them around drill bits so they wont hit each other. Maybe you could send me something just to try it out hehehe.
    Peace and love from Texas. Happy Holidays my new friend.

    Bought a set of famag wood drills 1-10mm with ½mm increments and have never regret it despite the price!

    Damn you Ben, now I want a set of those too! Anyway, as a machinist I want to call the carbide ones brazed carbide, not carbide inserts. In the machinist world a carbide insert is fastened with screws or clamps, and user replaceable when they wear out or break. These look like they are brazed in place, and not easily replaceable. Also for metalworking at least, carbide tools tend to like the higher speeds better, for steel you would typically run them 4-10 times faster than HSS. You can do this safely because they don't really care about high temperatures (though they are very sensitive to thermal shock, so don't be tempted quench them in water). You would probably want to check out with Famag what kind of speeds they recommend for their tools before you go of my advise though.

    Ben, the Royal Medusa may be what you are thinking of. Was an 80s superstrat with big holes drilled through the body ( as used by Tigertailz in their Livin Without You video :D )

    I understand 100%, tool geekery is my thing too. They look the business. On a slightly related issue, could you give me any advise please on a mini router setup for doing inlays etc? Or even a video one day? I seem to be struggling to find one as im doing a build with fairly large inlay work. Keep up the hard work, we really appreciate it.

    Hello thank you so much for the video I’d like to ask you if I could use the center pilot bit without the spur because i don’t like the forstner leaves a hole in the center of the piece at least for this project.

    Just noticed the Record Power drill - like it! (Just bought a Record Power Bandsaw - BS250)
    Would love to get the Famag Forstner bit set but it is SOOO expensive.

  • @timbeaton5045
    @timbeaton5045 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    So as the whole set would cost a fair bit...(sorry!) for we impoverished part timers, which ONE bit would you think would be worth getting? i.e. one all-round bit that would be generally most useful? My guess would be to buy one Bormax 3 but at what size?
    Any comments?

    Awesome video! "...it's not poplar in the slightest..." LOL! While those are good bits (I paid $35 for a single 3/4" Famag bit) I honestly feel the wave-cutters from Fisch/Freud are slightly cleaner cutting in the southern yellow pine I used for testing. Based on my testing, I just spent $300 for a complete set of Fisch Black Shark bits (a little better for hardwood than their standard wave-cutter bits).

    Hey guys, I glued on a fretboard on a neck and the fretboard didn't glue on evenly, if one side is almost perfect, the other is far from
    So and mostly glued on in the middle area, leaving the sides with a visible "crack" in witch I can insert a piece of paper up to 3/4 mm on average. What would you recommend me to do? Any help will be extremely appreciated, I think it was the lack of glue as I didn't want any to get in the truss rod. I used Titebond 4. Thank you so much

    If you have access to a machine shop you can make your own pilots to chase or enlarge holes.

    • @2testtest2

      I do believe I have seen that done. You need the right chuck though. Really the cutting geometry is the same as for an auger, except it does not have the worm to feed it in, and the spiral to extract the chips.

    My father had a set of forstner bits by famag. They were amazing until a 10 year old me used on to drill through copper. Don't do that. I bought him a new set when I was 18 So I'm not the worst person on earth.

    • @davidrahn9903
      @davidrahn9903 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also, a bit of forstner bit etymology the teeth on the edge are called knickers and the blades in the middle are called the chippers and the point is called the spur, at least that's what I was taught when I was learning how to sharpen forstner bits. Thanks for the nice video.

    Another wonderful tool that introduced Britain to the Messerschmitt Me 109.
    Forgive them Ben for they knew not what they did.
