  • Thanks to Woodland Trust from whose livestream I took this clip. Check out their live camera supported by players of People's Postcode Lottery at www.woodlandtrust.org.uk/ospreys and on youtube: • Loch Arkaig Osprey cam...
This clip shows Dorcha on the nest at 10.07, when a Hooded Crow pops up from the left hand side, and perches on the thick branch to the left of the nest. Dorcha mantles but the crow stays put. At 10.10 it hops up onto the centre perch very close to Dorcha, who rises, mantles, and alarm calls, but the crow merely looks down at her. She mantles again and lunges toward the crow at 10.10.27, who appears to fly away. However, it hasn't gone far, and at 10.10.42 it pops its head up over the edge of the nest! Dorcha moves forward, flaps strongly, and the crow disappears but at 10.11.09 is sen on the right hand side, underneath the nest. It moves out of camera view, then reappears at 10.11.30, then finally departing - hopefully - at 10.12.00. A very persistent Hoodie!

That's a cheeky, persistent crow. What a trial Dorcha faces with bad weather, Owl, now crow.
I hope everything is ok & the chicks will hatch successfully, they are devoted parents both.💕

Where’s Louis whilst this is going on? Not seen him in videos for a while.

He's around, delivering fish, taking his turn incubating. A very good dad is our Louis.

Unusually persistent! We'll have to keep a lookout for its return, much as Dorcha will be doing.

In another video, a raven destroyed osprey chicks because no parent was guarding them.

Now that the Hoodie has found the nest it'll be back, eggs/chicks chances of survival consequentially reduced. They're as bad as pine martens.

Osprey are terrible at protecting their chicks. And often the parents are eaten too!
