Insanity Catalyst can be swapped to, when you're already low on MP. It's like a CRR (Or RTSR) you toggle yourself. You can start off with the Silver Catalyst, and your Crystal Weapon in your other hand, to harass them with Flame Spray. This makes you look like a Weak Mage, then switch to the Krisblade, and Insanity Catalyst in combat as they rush into Ignite/Firestorm range. "Buhbye." Don't forget to wave as they return to their world. The only 2 spell boosters that you have to wear without doing an Inventory swap is the Monk's Hat, and the Ring of Magical Sharpness. This also cuts down your Magical Weakness. I like this weapon swap trick, because it fools people into assuming that I'm a Weak Mage, but if you don't have a Talisman equipped (You only have to cast Second Chance once) then you still have an offhand slot for a Shield. I use the Runed Shield, which removes the penalty from the Hood, and the Ring. You pretty much just have to have those out when you switch to your 1-shot Cast, like Firestorm. (If you practice the juggle combo to switch both hands, and spells in combat, but if you've played ANY fighting game, you can learn that pretty quick.)
Firespray soft counters that Purple Flame Shield, because it Guardbreaks it. Eventually, but you (And especially they) would be surprised how quickly it runs down their Stamina, and then what? Typically see that shield on a Melee build, and a staggered Melee build without Stamina can't even roll away. Even if you're not close enough to Reposte them (Crescent Estoc, and Moon Warscythe? That's nasty.) They're still stunned, so you can use that spell-swap trick to hit them with something a little spicier once they're defenseless. It even works on the Tower Shield. It takes a couple more shots because of the Stability, but those shots come out quick. Too quickly for their Spamina to recover unless they've got Doran's Ring, an Elixer active, or both. It's not an unbeatable counter, but then again, what is? I haven't seen Anti-magic Field cast yet, but if I do, I can switch to Sword, and Board. (Crescent Broadsword, and Runed Shield. I don't use that Shield much, except for against other Magic Damage builds. You know what most Spellcaster builds are weak to? Yeah, well not mine. I'm actually weakest against Regen Faith/Strength builds)
Why talisman of beasts is stronger than wooden catalyst? It increases magic damage less than wooden catalyst and the same as silver catalyst. Or is it due to the latest updates in the game?
Hope its not on the base consoles where it runs terribly! But even if on pc or next gen, if you wait a bit it will get more patches so thats also good.
@Lode I preorder cyberpunk but only played an hour cause I had ps4, waited until I got my ps5 and for them to fix things. Played it a month ago and it's one of the funnest games I've played... Yes there's problems but on ps5 I get a nice 60fps minor bugs that are easily overlookable and I found the combat and story very good. Police and random npcs are dogshit, and the fact I can't become like 80% robot was disappointing but in the state cyberpunk is in now id rate it 7/10. Story and combat carry really hard and the things letting it down by 3 can be fixed in time

I've only previously played Dark Souls which I did as a high poise mid rolling tank. Because of my lack of experience I did a mage this time, on Demon Souls the game has been somewhat easy as a mage. I don't even equip firestorm anymore and often switch to the crescent blade during boss fights to get a little more of a challenge. When you’re upgrading you Estoc to a Crescent Estoc +5, is there a certain path you take in upgrading it? I’m not sure how this works that’s why I was asking. I started upgrading and now I’m at the point where I can choose a Quality Estoc and that’s it so far.
I'm not 100% sure, but did you take the Estoc to the 2nd blacksmith in the game? He's available in 2-1, and does special upgrades. You can farm the material needed in the Shrine of Storms area 😊
@@LivingGuy484 yea I figured it out. The hard part for me with these games is learning how to upgrade your character and weapons. I knew it was him just didn’t know once you upgrade certain stuff to a certain point that more options become available. Like I think the Estoc had to be at +6 before you could start upgrading for the Crescent Estoc.
Hey man first time long time. Love your videos as they’ve carried me through a ton of games. Quick question and apologies perhaps it’s already been asked. You mentioned “if you didn’t want to go past lvl 120”, are you penalized for reaching a certain level? I’ve been playing as the higher the better but I have no idea. Thanks!
Hey there! While I'm not cowboy, I can say that 120-125 is usually the agreed upon level for online play by the community. So if you want the maximum amount of co-op/pvp then 120-150 is usually the best level choice. 120 also has the most amount of builds on mugenmonkey from my knowledge as well. If you dont care about online play then level up as high as you want.
Why talisman of beasts is stronger than wooden catalyst? It increases magic damage less than wooden catalyst and the same as silver catalyst. Or is it due to the latest updates in the game?
I enjoyed playing with axes and swords but on my second playthrough playing Mage I was severely disappointed. The best spell in the game can't even hit random enemies. You have to get lucky and have them walk into the flame. Very subpar enjoyment playing the Mage class for me personally.
It's about tricking them, not getting lucky. Well maybe some luck too. But for a spell that can one shot a lot of people if you have all the buffs going. And there is so much other great things you can do with the mage build.. not to mention it makes the game easier, since you can wreck really hard with just the basic spells.. you aren't looking at this the right way
Yes you guys are right. I have committed and given a couple of runs solely as a mage. They are quite overpowered when they are built into. My problem was I had a strength build trying to use Magic and of course it didn't work anything like when you build into magic. Yes you are right even beginning spells Crush
@@tavbroclay yea that's what I figured but this clip it just made him stand out alot, plus don't they get a good idea where you are with the cast time on that? You're not better off at trying to nuke with the soul Ray first?
I need help, my current build is focused on strength. Would it advisable to restart the game all over as a mage build from royalty or can I just turn mage in ng+
Played NG blind. I’ve used this exact magic boost gear. However… I’m a noob to stats and did all magic. Only magic. Had like 12 vit, 70 magic. It works until it doesn’t. Aka, getting 1-shotted all the time. But also being able to one shot anything yourself… Wasn’t as fun as it sounds hahaha but bosses did get nuked as you say. Also kinda sucked for PvP…
You can't get all the spells in one play through. I think you need two or maybe even a third. Some spells require the same boss souls so you need to beat the boss more than once.
Thank you , built a similar build but I gotta grind souls . Any advice for soul grinding ? And by any chance is there a ring that gets you more souls ? Thanks :)
Probably a bit late here but my advice would be - get the ring of avarice from 3-2 (upper latria) for increased soul drop. After beating the adjudicator boss in 4-1 there is a reaper shortly after the arch stone in 4-2 that can be very easily killed for like 4K souls approx per run. After killing him, use evacuate miracle. Rinse and repeat. You should level up very fast until about SL 70-80 when it starts to become a lot more expensive. Hope that helps!
Hey Cowboy, I am following your guide with temple knight and I used the dragon soul for the fireball just before rescuing Yuria for firestorm. I am on your walkthrough part 15 and I think I need to go back a few videos to get the talisman of beasts. I stopped right where you were changing character tendency on 3.2 I think because it got confusing and I wasn't sure if should I use my stones to grab a few items you were mentioning on that episode. Should I be switching guides I am a little lost at this point and it kind of seemed hard to follow a temple knight built as royalty and clearly I missed out on firestorm I have 40 hours in so far and I am around level 82ish I think. TIA
I might try this build, haven't done a mage build since the hex build from DS2. Saw female mage, thought "I'll name her Yennefer", then you open the menu and I saw what you named her
Late to this but I find that slash damage benefits more on naked, fleshy enemies. You can always rock an estoc because of pierce being a good general damage type with insane riposte and backstab damage. And use falchion for the pesty valley of defilement enemies, brainsuckers in latria and other several enemy types. I prefer the estoc because of fashionsouls and it doesn’t rebound in narrow hallways.
I'm wondering how you manage to play and see your chacater without this ugly hat? I've ofcourse tried to use the options and works but not in the menu like in @0:37 ?? Hope someone can explain :)
As always im super late to the game. Started as royal and am Level 12, would like to take the route of magic. Is there any other way to get the monks wrappings hat? I fear that by the time I reach the boss area where you can let yourself be summoned in order to get the hat nobody will be playing and I will be left waiting for all eternity …
yo CB, Important ?? When you killed Astavas red phantom at 9;44 on youre kings tower 1-4 walkthrough would that give me my pure white tendecy if just one away ??? please , need advice
No, only executioner ladie's red phantom would up tendency in world 1. Executioner, dragon bone smasher dude, locked in a cage dude, magic sword dude, and either Vinland or his sister (not sure which) up tendency on phantom kill. 1 phantom per world = 5 tendency. Need little light, noticable light, mostly light, almost complete, and the last one gives you full white.
But I want a slightly tanky but flexible and fast melee build but with enough magic to deal with tougher enemies or bosses. Kind of just like royalty but better spells and weapons. I just need more armor to complete my melee side of the build but I don’t know where to get reliable magic, I only have the soul arrow.
Anyone can answer me why he doesn't level up? I'm a new soul player I'm at new game plus and I think there must be a reason he don't level up can someone kindly tell me why thank you!

Man i have never tried spells and Magics build i always go with Pure physical attack i beated all Dark souls games with physical attack 😂 maybe it's time to try magic build for the first time
That’s what I’m doing lol
I'm just afraid I might get bored with pure magic builds cuz I'm so used to physical builds I'm thinking of doing a hybrid magic/dex
How do you get the helmet not to show up in the menu screen as well?
Did you figure this out bro?
Made the first walkthrough with the Knight character, and now going mage. And it is a completely different experience.
Which one is a generally better experience
Thank you. A great video. Quality content, way better Fextralife!
Yennefer. Great name Cowboy 👌
HMMMMM WONDER WHERE IT COMES FROM!
silence simps
You have a nice deep voice, and a good guide here
Cowboy I know that faith build is next, but you should definitely do a battlemage build after, with best weapons to enchant etc.
Would require a whole new character.
great great video mate!!!!!
This man just casually walking around with more than 3 million souls
I was thinking the same thing!
This game is kicking ny arse big time! I'm playing as Royalty and have only beaten one boss (Phanlax) so far :D I'm terrible at it!
Don't feel bad to beat the tower knight I had to bring another player in lol I took out the soldiers he killed the knight I had tried like 15 times. I did kill that fucking red dragon though lol
@@Skrewdbylife haha cheers dude, I finally got my head around the bitch and beat the game in just under 60 hours.
@@iconoclasttastic9258 I'm on 3-1 now..found the sharpness ring. I wanna find the cris knife. I'm near the Balista and flesh ball
@@iconoclasttastic9258 and bro I think I've spend like 20 hours just doing 1-1 1-2 and most of 3-1 lmao
.that tower knight really screwed me up
@@Skrewdbylife LOL - keep at it dude. Probs the most rewarding game experience I've had in a looooong time.
Crescent Falchion +5 in this build would be sick damage due to the 48 Magic.
I can’t find pure moon shade anywhere. The lizards in ritual path and altar of storms did not have them. Can someone please help?
Check area 2-2 in the room with the all of the crystal lizards. Its on the floor with the red phantoms kill those two and behind them is the room
That’s perfect thank you. I don’t play online much at all and was unaware. Thanks again.
@@haleyfarg No problem at all
Thank goodness for RPCS3. I'm convinced the PS5 is as real as Elden Ring.
Why talisman of beasts is stronger than wooden catalyst?
It increases magic damage less than wooden catalyst and the same as silver catalyst. Or is it due to the latest updates in the game?
It’s because of the miracles you get to use with the talisman. Some of the best in the game
I love that your mage build is named Yennefer
I enjoyed playing with axes and swords but on my second playthrough playing Mage I was severely disappointed. The best spell in the game can't even hit random enemies. You have to get lucky and have them walk into the flame. Very subpar enjoyment playing the Mage class for me personally.
It's about tricking them, not getting lucky. Well maybe some luck too. But for a spell that can one shot a lot of people if you have all the buffs going. And there is so much other great things you can do with the mage build.. not to mention it makes the game easier, since you can wreck really hard with just the basic spells.. you aren't looking at this the right way
Lol Mage class is the easiest and overpowered class in the game. You literally cheese your way through the game with magic build.
Yes you guys are right. I have committed and given a couple of runs solely as a mage. They are quite overpowered when they are built into. My problem was I had a strength build trying to use Magic and of course it didn't work anything like when you build into magic. Yes you are right even beginning spells Crush
This might be a stupid question but why cloak if you're casting the spell that hangs the blue orbs over you wherever you travel?
The point is to stand still and wait until they’re already in range before casting and then the orbs will home in on them as soon as they can
@@tavbroclay yea that's what I figured but this clip it just made him stand out alot, plus don't they get a good idea where you are with the cast time on that? You're not better off at trying to nuke with the soul Ray first?
So do these remake builds eork on the original? Im just getting into these games
Of course
@@FightinCowboy thanks! I'll have to try this out
Could you make a battlemage build guide? There is not a single one on yt😓
Use a crescent weapon or cast light weapon on something.
What button hides the helmet? I can’t see it anywhere, big ass hat getting in my way lol
It's in the game options near where you can switch from performance and fidelity modes
Cowboy you are crazy bro, but your vids are 🔥! Pun intended 🤣🤣🤣
How did you get it to not show head armour on equip menu? I am hiding head but still shows on menu
I need help, my current build is focused on strength. Would it advisable to restart the game all over as a mage build from royalty or can I just turn mage in ng+
You should make a new character for a mage build for sure. You never know when you might want to go back to the strength guy
Played NG blind.
I’ve used this exact magic boost gear.
However… I’m a noob to stats and did all magic. Only magic. Had like 12 vit, 70 magic. It works until it doesn’t.
Aka, getting 1-shotted all the time. But also being able to one shot anything yourself…
Wasn’t as fun as it sounds hahaha but bosses did get nuked as you say.
Also kinda sucked for PvP…
Does this build require multiple completions of the game to build? Or can I get all spells on the first play through?
You can't get all the spells in one play through. I think you need two or maybe even a third. Some spells require the same boss souls so you need to beat the boss more than once.
@@garrisoncullen7476 thanks for the info :)
How do you upgrade the kris blade? I don’t see it on the blacksmith 🧐
You need colorless demon souls
You need courlorless demon souls and you have to be at blacksmith Ed in 4-1
Leveling a new mage char, 37 atm. In what order do you recommend i level my stats? Got int 18, mag 30 and fth 16 atm. Vit is 20
Okay how did this guys level up this fast ?
Yennefer love it dude Geralt would be proud
So for body type B, what's the best armor? Obviously silver Coronet, but beyond that?
I have 40 int but not enough for the spells that you have ??
Does anti-magic field cancel the magic scaling on crescent weapons?
No
I dont get how talisman of beasts is doing more damage than the wooden catalyst, can someone help ?
18:00 i felt that
Thank you , built a similar build but I gotta grind souls .
Saw female mage, thought "I'll name her Yennefer", then you open the menu and I saw what you named her
Is crescent falchion or crescent estoc better? Or can you use either one?
Late to this but I find that slash damage benefits more on naked, fleshy enemies. You can always rock an estoc because of pierce being a good general damage type with insane riposte and backstab damage. And use falchion for the pesty valley of defilement enemies, brainsuckers in latria and other several enemy types. I prefer the estoc because of fashionsouls and it doesn’t rebound in narrow hallways.
@@officegossip very true
How do you hide Helmet ? It removes in photo mode but then jusy re-appears
In settings
How do you store your soul's??? I keep dying with 8,000 I getting tired of dying and starting without upgrades etc
I'm wondering how you manage to play and see your chacater without this ugly hat? I've ofcourse tried to use the options and works but not in the menu like in @0:37 ?? Hope someone can explain :)
hey can u do magic / faith in this ?
whats better to choose first? fire spray or ignite? I can only get one in my first run right?
Ignite for sure
Great guide
As always im super late to the game. Started as royal and am Level 12, would like to take the route of magic. Is there any other way to get the monks wrappings hat? I fear that by the time I reach the boss area where you can let yourself be summoned in order to get the hat nobody will be playing and I will be left waiting for all eternity …
hahah just finished the game and go for this build now as mage thanks nice job
yo CB, Important ?? When you killed Astavas red phantom at 9;44 on youre kings tower 1-4 walkthrough would that give me my pure white tendecy if just one away ??? please , need advice
No, only executioner ladie's red phantom would up tendency in world 1. Executioner, dragon bone smasher dude, locked in a cage dude, magic sword dude, and either Vinland or his sister (not sure which) up tendency on phantom kill. 1 phantom per world = 5 tendency. Need little light, noticable light, mostly light, almost complete, and the last one gives you full white.
So first run would you suggest grabbing the insanity catalyst or the homing soul arrow? (finally got a ps5 lol)
From what I’m reading the insanity catalyst reduce your mp but doesn’t boost anything. So I would say homing soul mass.
What's the progress route for a PvP character? NG+ to get all the items from boss souls, kill all bosses and stay for the invasions?
Progress to get what you need and stay at the SL you want, unlock enough that you can travel around for invasions.
Just had to put in that pinrinpan demolition. So satisfying 🤣🤣
Will you please make a mage/dex build?
But I want a slightly tanky but flexible and fast melee build but with enough magic to deal with tougher enemies or bosses. Kind of just like royalty but better spells and weapons. I just need more armor to complete my melee side of the build but I don’t know where to get reliable magic, I only have the soul arrow.
To get more reliable magic gotta free the witch in world 1-3 and sage free in world 4-1 those two have all the OP magic you gonna need in the game
Why is dexterity set to 13? Why do we need this one extra point?
Ignite is why I'm terrified of closing distance with BP Scirvir. I usually just dodge all his stuff until he runs out of mp.
Do you have Vitality at 50 so that you don't have to use Cling Ring and still have decent health in phantom mode??
50 is the soft cap it beyond that you get very minimal gains
Does Mana recovery over time or I have to consume some potion?
please dont please dont gotcha bitch combo had me rolling lmao!
what
What do you need to make a crescent estoc?
How do you keep other players in pvp from Seeing your auras from Kris blade and other buff items when cloaked ?
Not clocked it’s a different spell
Anyone can answer me why he doesn't level up? I'm a new soul player I'm at new game plus and I think there must be a reason he don't level up can someone kindly tell me why thank you!
Usual "Max" Soul level for Souls PvP is 120-125
Where do I get any of this stuff
