Well here's the thing. If it sounds like shit, no one cares how difficult or impressive it is to pull off! A 4/4 composition with 3 chords can evoke far more powerful emotions to the listener than mindless virtuoso flexing! This is why guys Gary Moore and Joe Bonamassa always sound better than any death metal guitarist that's probably more technically proficient. Why is it so hard to get that, odd or even time signatures, fast or slow, a million or 2 mph, unusual or usual chords doesn't matter at all. In the end only the emotional impact that a composition has is what matters.
not sure why this comment is here, Dave himself entirely disproves this rule. Yeah you can make a super complex shreddy composition in odd time and with complex theory elements, but what’s more challenging that doing that is making the composition sound good, which Dave somehow manages to do with every single song he writes. His soloing on every single Revocation album is deeply imbued with feeling and creates a sense of cohesiveness among the chaos. There’s lots of feeling in complex over-the-top music, it’s just a different feeling than mainstream guitar music and sometimes takes a more trained ear to truly appreciate it.
Because your boring ass sense of texture doesn't allow to appreciate how other genres reinterpret Jazz, stay stuck in the past, fossil. Davidson can outplay them moron, he started as a Jazz professional.
